And I can fully recommend. Keanu is about the best looking doctor I ever saw but he does not overwhelm the cast with his degree of celebrity, although I have often wondered how he magically manages to do that in his smaller roles. This is clearly Lily Collins movie but I will say that Lili Taylor's scenes are very touching and one in particular had me believing and teary which I did not expect. Depending on a given viewers degree of

emotional connection to the subject matter there will be fallout. Can't be helped with such a real portrayal of this confusing illness and the exploration of how it happens and how it is overcome. A nice addition to the Keanu Reeves filmography with skillful portrayals from all the actors that are often comedic and isn't that how real life often turns out?

Courtroom Drama
2 March 2017
I have no way to tell about this movie without spoilers so I will just say it is a good movie and you should see it if you are over 14 years old. I look forward to more movies from Courtney Hunt who wrote and directed this one. Excellent courtroom drama in the quintessential American city of New Orleans.

I was engrossed in the storytelling from beginning to end. Ana de Armas was really wonderful in her role as the Daughter of God. As always there is an uncontrollable need, on the part of the director and DP, to get as many close ups of Keanu as possible. And even with this he blended perfectly as an ordinary NYC detective investigating the murder of his partner in the police department. The supernatural aspects integrated well with the psychological nature of this young woman and her trauma. The day to day in the Spanish speaking community in NYC was relatable although tragic in this particular tale. Transmuting the unfortunate sad things that happen to us is always interesting and good story telling material. I can fully recommend this movie to the over 15 demographic. I saw it on pay per view. Looking forward to some extras on the blue-ray disk coming out the end of March.

As flawless as cinema gets
6 January 2016
I do not even comprehend the alternate universe that does not appreciate this film. It was exquisite from beginning to spectacular ending. More truthful dialogue is seldom found in the movies. More perfect cinematography is seldom found in the movies. The pacing was perfection. I was mesmerized the entirety of the film. If you are 20 whine and you failed to appreciate YOUTH, come back to it in 10 years and tell us again how you didn't like it. If you are already older and you failed to appreciate it my condolences to you. My profound thanks to all the movie makers and to the vision of the director. Having viewed a lot of movies over a lifetime I have seen the same stories repeated again and again. This is new. A brilliant meditation on aging and the art of film and music.

He Never Ceases to Surprise Me...

Warning: Spoilers
And by he I mean Keanu Reeves. Very interesting movie choice for him to make. I will freely cop to enjoying the early exposition parts more than the later torture of Evan. The implied sex is very hot. Clearly a first class production in every way. One scene with Evan asleep with a girl on either side of him takes full advantage of the physical beauty of the three of them.

Evan's "free pizza" speech is golden. The director, Eli Roth has admitted that Keanu riffed on the script in rehearsal and they used every word he said for the final cut that was done in one take. Lorenza and Ana are so lovely I almost wished they were not total psychopaths in this movie. Overall it is psychological thriller that builds and put me in mind of Play Misty for Me. And the moral of the story is that any happily married man will succumb to the free pizza when his authentic needs/appetite are not being met, even when he tries hard to fight off the temptations...Hello? There is no free pizza.

47 Ronin (2013)

Wonderful tale from feudal Japan.
24 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I cannot imagine a better movie to acquaint westerners with this Japanese story that is so key to their culture. I have seen an earlier Japanese version and I failed to connect with its outdated cinematic techniques. With 47 Ronin I really got the feel of bushido and the way of the warrior samurai. These intentions are universal but the 1700's

are not within popular western cultural interests, usually, so bringing in a well known actor (Keanu Reeves) brought focus and believability to the scenes of battle and impossible love. No one pulls off demon fighting and magical elements like Reeves. And no one is better at being repressed, abused, and stigmatized and still coming round to everyone's aid like Reeves does.

He is a hero within an ensemble group of heroes. I enjoyed getting more familiar with the Japanese actors. The female characters were not weaklings. Universal themes of cowardice and deception for personal gain were clear. I felt the movie was very well done from start to finish. I believe they accomplished what they set out to do. Exciting battle scenes and quiet dramatic scenes were well balanced throughout the movie. Exquisite cinematography throughout. Costumes looked authentic to me. Hair and makeup not overdone to make it all the more believable. I loved the minimalist dialogue and some of it has a familiar ring to it. The fantasy elements were second to none. The 3D was an added dimension but I feel this movie will be equally as good in 2D. You cannot see a more culturally enlightening story with more fantasy elements woven within it. I can fully recommend this movie and look forward to having the DVD in the future.
