Outside In (2017)
Wonderfully written, blissfully portrayed - This is what I call a DRAMA FILM!
In these days of so-called big budget Fifty Shades of so-so, thank God for films like "Outside In". Seriously, thank you!
"Outside In" is the real deal where love is heart-breaking, painfully flawed, raw! And possibly home-breaking on occasion.
This heart-wrenching earth-shattering near-lyrical drama piece grips my heart in a vice from its gentle-toned beginning right to its powerful end. My heart is in my throat begging for a chance and some understanding for the main character, CHRIS, who has been without understanding and compassion, even love, for so long (20 years) his life has become a desert without water, and I kept praying as I watched, for him not to be broken or hurt further by the one person from whom such an act would be a killing blow, Carol.
A Tale of the purest innocent love so heart-achingly portrayed that I am without words. Give me "Outside In" over Fifty Shades of Whatever any day!
Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor (2013)
Less hate, less talk - more listening
What did I learn from watching this film? Betrayal of the worst kind committed in the lowest way - the bottomless capacity for an individual to forgive another person for the worst kind of hurt - fear of the person who is supposed to be the protector - the agony of brutal physical violence against a weaker individual. 'Brice' (Lance Gross) who plays Judith's husband is an endless fountain of forgiveness and I'm in awe of his character, the humiliation he took and the understanding he kept dishing out. With a husband like that how does a marriage go wrong in the real world? My answer is, we don't have many Brices in the real world. I just want to bottle him up in a jar and preserve him. 'Janice' (played by Vanessa Williams) is a boss with very interesting layers. I'd like to know what sort of back story helps the high-powered boss she plays to react to a 'stab-in-the-back' situation from an apparently ungrateful employee (Judith) - and do it in an unexpectedly non-stereotypical way - basically when confronted with Judith's betrayal she doesn't blow her top, but reacts cool-headed, very savvy and actually gives Judith a sincere word of advice on the spot, like she knows things Judith doesn't know about attempting business dealings with men of the world like 'Harley' (Robbie Jones) and she inwardly realises Judith has let herself in for a rough ride. People need to hate 'Tyler Perry' a little less and sometimes, try to listen to what he's saying a little more. As far as I'm concerned there are worse things in the world - like being responsible for making Kick-ass 2!
We Bought a Zoo (2011)
Pure Heaven!
It is many several years since I have been so completely overwhelmed by a film, and nearly every 2 minutes of it at that. I don't know why I waited this long to watch the film. Actually I do! I was thinking "Oh, here is another boring film based on an everyday story that somehow got a mention at the Oscars, a gimmick to sell DVDs"; so I thought. How dumb of me! This is an ordinary story but woven into very extra-ordinary circumstances! The writing is so stupendously effective that I want to bow down to the script-writer. The levity and seriousness is so superbly handled I am awed. The filmmakers are heavenly, and the actors made watching this for me feel like a little piece of magic happening in real life, like I was watching my own family up on screen. I am so beyond impressed that occasional Gems like this one, do make it into print. Thank you so much for making a beautiful, beautiful piece of cinema. I will be buying my DVD copy with great pride.
