The Tribe (1999)
Good Show from New Zealand
I first noticed this show around episode 20 in series 1 and having the DVD it shows what is a possibilty if a Virus wiped out the entire adult population. In Series 1 it shows a group of children forming their own tribe and that they want to create a better world different to the current one in hich tribes fight for food, territory and slaves. However after Series 2 it begins to go slightly downhill because in Series 1 it is dangerous to walk outdoors by yourself and the fear of larger warlike tribes (e.g. Locos, Demon Dogs) attacking you. Now it is safe to walk down the street and everyone gets along but series 3, 4 and 5 have the same basic storyline of a large tribe taking over the whole city.
However this is worth a watch and shows many different characters which have their own personalities and dreams.
The Dam Busters (1955)
Classic Untouchable War Film
The Dambusters is a true story in which the men of 617 Squadron (originally Squadron X) are sent to bomb three key dams in the Ruhr Valley with the famous bouncing bomb. The film shows the young bomber crews training and eventually the mission itself. Many people have said that this raid was a waste of human life and resources but war IS a waste of human life and resources and these men gave the UK a boost in morale and made the Germans realize we weren't beat yet. Apparently Mel Gibson wanted to recreate this movie some years ago but did not get the backing of the MoD,the BBMF or 617 Squadron. With fantastic performances from Richard Todd as Guy Gibson and Michael Redgrave as Barnes Wallis this is a classic film.
Balamory (2002)
Fun PC Show
Balamory, very politically correct yet is fun for young children. The show starts off with the nursery teacher Miss Hoolie. Then she gets a visitor (usually Josie Jump) who needs help and doesn't know who to see. Then with a song about coloured houses the show begins to take place. The show has a good mix of characters, Archie the Inventer, Spencer the Painter, PC Plum the Policeman, Josie Jump the Fitness Guru, Edie McCredie the bus driver plus Suzie Sweet who runs the sweet shop with her disabled helper Penny Pocket. Mixed with song and dance the best one being Archies song about inventing this show is fun for under six yet those older and adults as well and may find it repetitive and a little too PC.
