The Chi (2018)
Finally Had Enough
Because the first two seasons were so riveting, I have tried to give this season a chance to kick into gear. However, I just could not get through this last episode. The meandering narrative, the pedestrian acting ( I'm being kind) have beaten all the admiration I had for this show into the dust. A gutsy show has transformed itself into a mediocre melodrama focusing on the least interesting characters to the detriment of more compelling stories and actors who can actually ACT! If there is a season 4, the current writing crew must be dismissed ASAP as well as any actor whose acting skills would not get them past a middle school play audition. As for me, I'm too done and that makes me sad!
September (1987)
Bargain Basement Ingmar Bergman Knockoff BUT
Slow, turgid slog with one redeeming feature: Elaine Stritch. She is simply brilliant in this film.
The Green Years (1946)
Fine Narrative but...
Dean Stockwell is wonderful in this film. It is a bit disconcerting that the dialogue coach was unable to coach more authentic Scots accents out of the major characters in this movie.
Those that make the attempt are quite awful .
Par for the course in those days .
Catastrophe (2015)
Beware "Pro Trump" Conservatives' Negative Reviews
I loved this final season although it was a bit too episodic. There are many brilliant moments throughout. Sharon and Ron are simply incomparable... I'm going to miss the supreme awfulness of these two... and the wonder of how perfect their connection turns out to be . I see that some of our more conservative brethren have decided to let their political views inform their assessment of this season. That is their right. It has to be difficult to hear Trump referred to in such negative terms. As for me, and most of the civilized world, I enjoyed the hell out of it.
