Cloud Atlas (2012)
Thamir Ghaslan
The makeup in this movie blew my mind. Without the assistance of IMDb, it would be hard to spot who was who in the 6 roles some of the cast played.
I thought 3 hours was too long for a movie, but it played out well and enjoyed every minute of it. This is reminiscent of "lost" style with connecting the past with the present and future but on a more well played out level with the 6 timelines.
Its not easy to get lost and see the connections between past, present and future and everything fits well together at the end of the movie. Lots of philosophies in the movie at times that are eternally recurring in human nature. The human instinct for freedom, to just name one. Traditionalists opposing change in each timeline, to name another.
Watch it, you wont regret it.
The Music Never Stopped (2011)
Made me cry.
I usually consider myself a tough guy and people who know me know how thick my emotional wall can be, but considering how this movie is centered around a family who are reconnecting after 20 odd years and all the complex dynamics that it entails, the scenes that brought me tears were caused from pity. Its a drama movie, so expect lots of drama.
Regardless of the budget of the movie, the story line was enjoyable and so was the acting between the father and son. Flashbacks from the present to the 50s and 60s are introduced at the early stages of the movie to make sense of the present.
There are intermittent moments of high drama throughout the movie, but the ending scene is where drama reaches its climax.

Twisty Plot
I normally judge movies and how they'd turn out based on the first 5 to 10 minutes.
First few minutes were slow and didn't know what to expect, and then the movie took off and I got hooked.
The action sequences were superb, and the main plot is: "A family on a road trip is stalked by criminals who stashed stolen money in their car."
Although the main plot is consistent, many of the interaction sequences between the characters turn out different than what I expected, which is the high point of my experience.
Highly recommended.
