The Winchesters: Teach Your Children Well (2022)
Loving the parallels
Honestly, I didn't know how they'd do that way or how much paralleling would be part of this, but this is fantastic. Already seeing an alignment with S1 of SPN, but bringing in all the great things that were in the later seasons too that early seasons of the show didn't have.
This episode did so great with humour, and that kind of sarcasm I love, especially from Carlos. He's just winning in humour. And that little musical montage was hilariously fantastic and unexpected.
I did find there was a bit less of a mesh as a team of characters this episodes, but they're still finding their feet as a show, so that makes sense. And it's not as obvious as it is for many new shows, so I think they'll do just fine.
The sets are just brilliant too!
The Winchesters: Pilot (2022)
Delightful cast
It's a pleasure to have such a wonderful cast that just seemed to mesh right from the get-go. That isn't always the way with teams, but I absolutely believed Carlos and Lata and Mary all knew each other, and John and Ava are great new additions to sorting this mystery out. I was engaged and interested for the whole episode, which is a great sign in a pilot! Really looking forward to how this story develops.
I'm definitely gravitating to Latika as my favourite, just as she's so like me with her book knowledge and research skills. I hope we get to see a lot more of that and her coming in with her smarts to save the day! Also adored Mary's kick-ass nature, and Millie is just so sad with all she's lost. And I'm looking forward to learning more about Ava.
The Winchesters (2022)
Entertaining and fun
Look, I knew what I signed up for, but even I'm pleasantly surprised how much fun it was! I felt the characters meshed into a team very organically, something that can be hard to do in a pilot. Just enough backstory to get where everyone is coming from, but the focus was on setting up the plot for the season. Always kind of awkward in a pilot but I never thought the exposition went too far. Kudos to Robbie for an excellent script!
Adore Carlos! And the parallels already between Mary and Dean and John and Sam are clear. Really nice to see the special guest star! Hope there's many more to come.
Bridgewater: Blood & Water (2021)
Rollercoaster from start to finish!
I loved this. I'd never listened to a podcast done like a tv show before, so don't have any basis, but what a way to start! I was hooked from episode one. The acting was so good I could feel the emotions bleeding through the scenes over my headphones, and the scripts were just enough info to understand what was going on mixed with edge of your seat drama. Can't wait for s2!
Roadfood: Detroit, MI (2022)
Community gardens are awesome
I didn't know the history of collard greens so that was really interesting! Detroit is actually a city I'm familiar with but haven't been in about a decade and I'm so glad to see the surgence of community gardens and the population creating a new and vibrant city.
