The Harper House (2021)
Very solid first episode, and expecting even better things
Many first episodes of a new cartoon can be a struggle; sometimes even whole first seasons. Animated shows often take a bit of time to find their voice, and their laughs.
When it comes to animation, there's a real art and immense skill to delivering something good on first attempt, before tightening up what works, and shaving what doesn't.
The Harper House delivers from the get-go. My 10/10 rating is intentionally too high to counter the other initial inexplicably low ratings, but if you're a fan of animated comedies then giving this a try is a safe bet.
Superman: Red Son (2020)
The best DC animated movie?
I've watched every DC animated movie and this is right up there with the best they have ever produced. It's a compelling story with motivated characters that moves at a quick pace. It also avoids some common DC animated movie problems, such as awkward pauses between characters during dialogue, and no ambient noise or background music.
Regarding all the reviews saying read the comic instead, I'd say read it as well. Or don't. I liked the comic when it came out, but never found it to be overly memorable. That I had read it didn't affect my enjoyment of the movie.
