The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Maybe I'm too old?
Nothing but endless, pointless fighting. Old fashioned rifles versus laser rifles (both always 100% accurate at 500m whilst targeting something that is traveling at 200mph). And how is it that alien races capable of space travel mostly have to settle disputes by fist fighting or battling it out with sticks? It was drivel.
The Good Doctor (2017)
Low bar
You have to love him. I've watched two episodes only. I liked the character but the whole premise seems to be aimed at the lower end of the market. "Gosh, he's so smart!" etc. Unbelievable and sugary and just bubblegum TV for those who don't want too much from their viewing. Like Doc Martin, but less subtle (I know, right?) without the English charm.
The Silence (2010)
A tale of two parts (and seemingly missing the finale)
The first two episodes seemed quite good. But the 3rd and 4th felt like a different writer? It descended into more of a Sccooby Doo adventure than a gritty police drama. And clumsy insertion of "deaf related" issues throughout. And I agree that the ending seemed rushed...ok, we can assume what happened quite comfortably...but it felt like they'd had a fire at the studio and needed to finish it pronto. I'd be interested to find out if the writing team changed for the past two eps.
All Creatures Great & Small (2020)
Enjoying it....
3 eps in and loving it so far. Ok, it's predictable (maybe the first series was, I can't remember...I imagine so) and yes, it's a bit sickly sweet, but it's beautifully shot, well cast and and great bit of wholesome, feel good fodder for a Sunday evening. Trying to encourage my parents in the uk to watch it to take their minds off being isolated and remind them of their youth (albeit through rose coloured glasses).
Bridgerton (2020)
Oh, dear...
Drivel. Opening scenes looked promising. Lavish, expensive and colourful. Rapidly descended into garbage.
It's like whoever produced it (Netflix) was so excited about learning the "cute way" people spoke in 1830's London Society, that any old script would suffice.
Avoid.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013)
Muddled and not funny
Liked the first movie, but this one was terrible. Bad writing and a kind of "frenzied for the sake of it but getting nowhere" feel to the action.
I didn't laugh...which, at the end of the day, is what this type of movie is about. Avoid.
Pet Sematary (1989)
Dated and wooden
Wasn't impressed. The acting was wooden in the extreme. Certain plot elements that, in the book made sense, seemed to have been bolted on very clumsily - the wife's dying sister for example seemed irrelevant and pointless and brought nothing to the overall story. Maybe they intentionally gave it a Hammer House feel? Not sure, but could have been a lot better.
