The Barkleys of Broadway (1949)
Always Good to See an Astaire-Rogers Collaboration

The Barkleys of Broadway is definitely worth watching if you are a fan of Hollywood musicals from the classic period of this genre. The tenth and final Astaire-Rogers collaboration is a pleasant vehicle that is designed to showcases the twosome's immense talents. That it does! The plot--about a veteran married Broadway dance team who constantly quarrel--is a little bit weak. But, in the long run, who cares? The duo's dance numbers are wonderful, as one might expect.
Oscar Levant is especially good in his role as a witty but slightly manipulative friend. Certainly, Levant's two featured piano performances are terrific examples of his skill and showmanship.
