Old Dads (2023)
Bill Burr goes off the rails
I get, that this movie is some concoction with Woke-hate but also some self critique. But that's where my issue lies. I personally love Bill Burr on stage, because he asks tough questions and doesn't bother, to answer us the hard truths.
This movie is something completely else. Starting off with Bill, insulting everyone. So far, so good. Calling a person C#nt is a mistake. But showing a caricature of a woman, exuberantly crying and making it funny to us has the vibe of "she deserved it, because she is dumb". And this goes on and on and on. Nobody secondguesses him or herself. And nobody really changes. This movie has a lot of dialog but no communication. Between people, who supposedly love each other as well as the ones, who hate each other. It's so weird. Bill Burr is all about talking and liberal free of speech in his stand ups but it looks like a script, with no second layer. I also have my issues with wokeness, but this subpar movie just doesn't cut it in the least.
There were some good jokes. I admit that but mostly it just looked like the world you see on twitter. I get that LA is a bubble on its own but I can't count it as an excuse. I expected better, more nuance and more character development. Just saying "ignore it" in the end is a wrong message and also a cop out. I love Bill Burr but this is a clear miss.
Last Chance U: Basketball (2021)
The series is great as a series, but makes me furious as a documentary
Let me explain first, why the 8 points are valid. The series is a top notch production with great drama. Highs and lows are depicted beautifully and that is why I really enjoyed watching it.
But when it comes to people's lifes, I think the protagonists are not a good match. I read a lot of times, that Coach Mosley is a great coach and his approach is just the right thing to do. And after two seasons, I have to completely disagree. It's not even about the constant screaming and shouting, but the handling of young people, who are different and should be treated adequately. I had some tough couches myself and was thankful, that they tought me discipline, but they had so much more than this one road. "Screaming and then being mellow before the matches" works a few times maybe, but it's not sustainable. So instead of searching the mistake at himself, he tells us, that his gift is coaching kids. How delusional do you have to be? Of course, if you press people down a stream, they can eventually fit in, but you have to look at everybody now. And you could see, that the good players were not integrated and that is something that the ELAC leadership needs to address. It is really sad to see sb go down a road and not being able to adapt. It's quite ironic on how he wants the players to be. So this is really saddening, especially when the lifes of the kids are at stake.
P. S.: The second part focuses on my opinion and not about the artistic value.
Apache bleibt gleich (2022)
Not real but also not dishonest
We are guided into this Apaches' documentation through many interviews about him (real name Volkan) and his work and this is where my first point of criticism comes into play. These people are completely disillusioned and raise Apache to the level of a prophet with "He revolutionized German rap" and "He's the only one who unites target groups".
I find this statement quite disrespectful towards other artists, although I don't listen to German rap like that. Yes, almost daft.
In complete contrast to these statements, Volkan surprisingly draws a compeltely different picture. And here is, where the documentary has earned the additional stars. It's just good to see that this boy didn't become so big by chance (no pun intended), but that a lot was also planned and calculated. The whole environment helped him and made him thrive. He's a well-behaved boy and he shows it, despite the Rap Image. You have to give him credit for the fact that negative tones are also sounded and not everything is celebrated as awesome. But here, too, a lot of potential is wasted because, as I said, it is only hinted at. Not much is really real here. You have to read a lot between the lines and that ultimately results in the picture of the product "Apache". Neither human nor artist. Here, unfortunately, the documentary regularly thwarts itself, since there is a back and forth between intelligent monologue and completely thoughtless gibbergabber. I'll just say this much, 2 boys are sitting in the car and bragging and bullying about women. Typical rapper clichés.
Now we come to the end and why I decided to write a long text after all. The film involuntarily shows that something is wrong with Apache in my opinion. In a video you can see that he performs and sings at the school dance prom. And no, he doesn't rap. He sings and it's fantastic. Then in the next cut comes the autotune distortion, which completely sells off his voice in his songs. Just because it works and the market demands it, Volkan and those around him developed this type of music. I hope that he chooses to change, despite of what he sings about.
All or Nothing: Arsenal (2022)
Times have changed
First of all, I want to emphasize, that I hate criticizing Football Managers, because everybody does it and their heads roll first. But that gets tossed out inflatory in the last years.
Yes, this documentary is pretty close and also shows us the deep dive into how Arteta works and how the players work. How the pressure is on every matchday and even the drama is something, I don't mind. It is part of football and that is why I love it.
The only thing, that really bugs me is the comparison to old times. Yes, they say that it was a different era. But not why. I think the series is keen on not to expose the new money from middle east asia coming in. As an example, they are saying, that arsenal paid 150 million quid in one transfer period in total... Bro, that's what Man city paid for one player only. So yes, Arsenal belongs to the top half. But in no way does it have the budget as it used to. The squad is nearly 300 million less valuable then the top teams in the League. Money does eventually win in the end. Unfortunately. And this is something, I want to see in the series as well.
Better Call Saul: Point and Shoot (2022)
Pointless Shoot
Wow. I really loved this series. I really did. But this season is weak. Killing off Lalo was inevitable because of Breaking Bad. But as Mike said "This could have gone down a whole lot different" and it should. I am not even mad about Lalo killing 4 People in 3 seconds. It's about not thinking of booby traps or seeing a giant fuse below Gus' that he can kick out. They also used the same shot as in Breaking Bad, that Gus feels pain a minute later than normal humans. But this throwback made me miss Breaking Bad more. They did Lalo dirty.
Primal: Shadow of Fate (2022)
Spear is an a-hole
Always doing the same sh** to poor doggy... Eh t-rexy.
Man, this story gets better by the minute. They included northern language, so let's see how it progresses.
Billions: Victory Smoke (2021)
What the f... happend?
Axe is gone mental and does the exact opposite stuff, he didnt do in the last years. Make emotional decisions.
Wendy is somehow horny for axe after being with him for 39118 years.
Chuck is just greedy with and gives no fs about the family tradition and how immensely important blood is.
Only bobby stays the same and that is, because he needs an enemy to shine and show his dog with the bone mentality.
All in all, it feels like they do what a sitcom does. Make the characters more extreme from season to season. (Flanderization) The writers have no clue how to carry on. Billions is only a reference heavy series with cartoo character shells.
Fresh, Fried and Crispy (2021)
Fat guy just eating
Well is there not one food show without a host?
Just let me see the awesome food like in this show but not with annoying people. Slowmos, cool shots etc. And the Restaurant owners talk, not more. This is just garbage.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet (2020)
Season 1 was really good, now it gets worse
I dont think that I need to say sth about season one. That one was really good.
But I have no clue why the staff decided to stereotype it more in the new episodes. It was already borderline at first, but why do we have only toxic people. I really lost interest in every person, because they start off with a problem, they made themselves by being stupidly annoying and then fixing it in the end. There is no storyarc, just less and less intruiging dialogues. Its really a bummer.
Shameless: O Captain, My Captain (2020)
Lol Debbie IS a hooker
What a joke of an episode. Just ruin every character and make them shallow.
