Silver Wings & Civil Rights: The Fight to Fly (2004)
Excellent movie, award winner!
I'm not sure why this movie has such a poor rating. I can only think that the people who watched it must have had blindfolds and earplugs on that night. This award-winning 90-minute feature documentary tells the story of the first all-Black fighter squadron that escorted bombers into the European theater during World War II. Named for the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama where they trained, the Tuskegee Airmen were instrumental in bringing about the 1948 Presidential Order that desegregated the armed forces. The movie is filled with first hand accounts, vintage footage and photographs as well as reenactments of the events. This true story of one of the first civil rights battles has never fully been told until now. This project is unique in that the entire Tuskegee Airman experience is told first-hand by those who lived it: not only the fighter pilots of the European campaign, but also those who won the battle of will stateside. This project is a tribute to our WWII veterans who freed the world, and to those who lifted the veil of the ignorance of racism.
The Five-Year Engagement (2012)
The trailers where the best part of the movie
Oddly enough it had most of the ingredients to be a good movie but the reality of it fell flat. The premise is solid. The acting solid. the writing, Solid. Unfortunately something about the recipe just didn't jell into anything really worth while. It seems like the movie could have been a lot more interesting if the main male character had just taken his girlfriends advice about midway through the movie and started his own restaurant. At least it would have been over sooner. A good movie to watch if you are just killing time. Though a shout out to the actors that play his best friend and her sister. They steal every scene they are in!
Breaking In (2011)
Most laughs I have had in 30 min. since My Name Is Earl!
I LOVE this show! I was thrilled to hear that Fox is bringing it back for a second season in March of 2012! It has a wonderful cast and is very well written. I have not laughed this much in 30 min since My Name Is Earl and what else would you expect from writers like Seth Gordon (who wrote for Parks and Recreation, the Office, and Community), produced by Adam Sandler backed Happy Madison Productions, and starring Christian Slater. The plot is fast paced with lots of action and plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing and the main characters are fleshed out pretty well by the end of season one to keep you interested and invested in them. I also have enjoyed the great guest stars especially "Dutch" played by Michael Rosenbaum who has evolved into a main character and will be back for season 2. I would love to see this show evolve into a full hour but it's a great 1/2 hour show anyway. I don't think it is anything like Leverage (another good show) nor does it have the time to get into a complicated plot (like Justified) or a lot of technical explanations (Big Bang Theory)as some other rates seem to think it should, it's like comparing apples to oranges, these shows are all good at what they do and Breaking In does a great job entertaining you with smart writing and solid humor without dumbing it down like some sitcom's do. I don't usually watch sitcoms for that reason but Breaking In IS the exception for me! Love it and can't wait for season 2!
