London Has Fallen (2016)
Possibly worst movie I've ever seen
This movie is unbelievably bad, typical American drivel and propaganda. Kinda lets one understand how Donald Trump can lead the field as the Republican Party candidate for President of the United States of America. The story, according to this movie, suddenly has about half the population of the police force, and of a guards regiment, turning out to be terrorists, prepared to kill most of the world's leaders. Of course the Americans to the rescue, were one guy manages to save the US President and kill a great number of terrorists in the process; meanwhile surviving helicopter crashes, car crashes, falls down elevator shafts and other miraculous escapes. How Morgan Freeman was dragooned into playing a part it this utter trash is totally beyond me, surely he's not that hard up.
Room (2015)
What an acting performance!!
Room, in my opinion an incredibly moving story of the relationship between a young Son, 5 years old, and a Mother living in, for the Mother, dreadfully stressful conditions. The acting in this movie, by the principals, was superb, and I was totally stunned by the performance of Jacob Tremblay as the Son; this show would be well worth seeing if for nothing more than to see Jacob's performance. While likenesses of the circumstances depicted in the film have come to light in the real world in recent years, one feels that the Director may well have touched very close to the emotions and feelings of the victims in such situations
I enjoyed to the utmost everything about the movie.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015)
Awful sounds about right
Watched this movie earlier today and we were the only people in the theatre. By the time the movie was a quarter played we could understand the absence of patrons. We stayed until the bitter end, largely in the hope that it would improve along the way, but also to see just how bad it could get. The dying girl became incidental to plot very early in the show, as the character of the 'me', a waste of space teenager, became the focus. I guess it's small wonder that my wife and have virtually given up on American movies after watching this sort of drivel. At least in British or European movies there has to be some adult dialogue and or thought.
The Imitation Game (2014)
Alan Turing Hero
I have yet to see the new film ' The Imitation Game', but my admiration for Alan Turing goes back many years. I truly believe that his contribution to the winning of WWII in Europe was greater than that of any other single individual. I also believe that the way he was treated by the British Government, after the war, due to his being a homosexual, was absolutely disgraceful.
I have recently read that there is now some question regarding his ' suicide'. Apparently he had some interest in deadly poisons and questions have arisen as to whether his death may have been accident. Of course that could provide a reasonable excuse to relieve the guilt that may be felt by the State for its appalling treatment of a true hero.
Looking for Angelina (2005)
A sad reflection on our times
I had never heard of this movie until I found the DVD in our local library and took it home to view. What an incredibly powerful and wonderful film, superb acting and direction, and a story that brought tears to these old eyes. I find it unbelievable that in an industry burdened with an endless array vampire movies, zombie drivel and ceaseless computer graphics of monsters of various types, this movie was never listed in any movie house anywhere near where I live in in Canada. I guess it speaks volumes of what the movie industry thinks of the film goers who are little bit older, a little more mature and who wish to see something more than most of the current movie fare.
