LOVE IT OR HATE IT, THIS FLICK IS ROCKINGLY GANSTA-Soo-Raah!
14 February 2022
What an incredible movie has been pulled out by the write and the director. I watched this movie without watching the trailer and without even reading the plot. And boy, the movie took me for a thrilling and crazy ride. It is not your mundane and regular story. It dwells into deeper human emotions and explores the ideologies people live by. It has many facets to it. Be it dark comedy, friendship, father figures, action, crime, legacy, ideologies, extremism, gandhian philosophy, love, hate and what not. Such a commendable script, and also the music which was in so sync with the theme and flavour of the movie. The acting and the performances were so brilliant and spot-on. The entire team should be so proud of what they have created. Complete Badass Movie.

Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
Season 1, Episode 10
1/10
SHOWTIME BANGING US TWICE
9 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was so excited to hear about the reboot. Although I was not sure at first considering the awful season finale back in the year 2013. But, there was no harm in giving it a try. I really liked the quality of first few episodes, and then the quality, the pace and story telling started getting awesome after each and every episode. There were always few plot holes, but one can ignore them for our favourite 'Dexter'. I just wanted to see more of Dexter on the screen. And then the last two episodes happened, which made me crave for Dexter even more. This also increased the hypes and expectations for the the 'Finale'.

Then the finale came today which is so awful and disgusting. They made a mockery of our favourite anti hero. They disrespected the fans and their feelings. The fans have been investing their time and emotions for months now, and they came up with this stupid finale. This is ridiculous.

Dexter getting arrested. Logan getting killed by Dexter. Harrison killing Dexter. What was that? No connection. No good story telling. It felt as if they just wanted to get over with 'Dexter' in any way possible. I mean a 'person' is living in Iron lake who has killed the most brutal Serial killer of the town. Who is responsible for exposing him and closing long pending case of missing women. He deserves better than this. Definitely. I mean the look Angela gave to the dead Dexter was so disgusting. You are looking at a person who has killed hundreds of bad people who have escaped your justice system. He deserved so so better. Also, the part where Harrison switches sides, emotions, feels, and darkness. That was ridiculous. He made Dexter pay for his sins. Do he even know Dexter properly? The life he has lived, and the problems he has faced with himself and the society. All of sudden he makes Dexter responsible for the deaths of Rita, Doakes, Deb etc. I mean C'mon. Absolute nonsense.

Even I wanted to see Dexter dying and Harrison living a normal life because that was the only way. But now in this manner. There is a way to conclude something. You don't rush it to this stupidity. Dexter could never kill a person like Logan. Dexter is a smart person. He patiently would wait for jury and the D. A to get his name cleared because no one could make any connection to Matt's murder with regards to Dexter. Dexter is smart, meticulous, survivalist and passionate about what he does. Why would be rush away after killing Logan to be with Harrison? Harrison was not in danger and he was holding good. The showrunners just wanted to kill Dexter by the hands of his son. You made 'Dexter' look like an idiot. Shame on you. There watching anything related to Dexter again because this was an insult.

Dexter: New Blood: The Family Business (2022)
Season 1, Episode 9
10/10
Aaah such a satisfaction.
2 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Such a satisfying episode it was. Harrison's reactions to Dexter's vigilance is so precious to Dexter. It makes him satisfied and happy. The episode had such a great pace with all good writing, direction and cinematography. Before the start of this revival, I was skeptical about the idea itself. But now it's good to have back Dexter in our lives back.

Let's see what the episode 10, the finale , would look like and where would we go from here on. It's gonna be a very emotional and tough finale. Hope Dexter and his family survive this, and live happily.

Talvar (2015)
10/10
Rusty Sword
1 October 2015
Talvar led by Irrfan Khan is a must watch movie. Got a chance to watch the paid preview of the movie. I wanted to wait for critic's response to the film, but somehow decided to attend the preview.

Meghna Gulzar's direction is gripping and thrilling. I am watching her work for the first time and will surely be eager to watch her future works. The film's narration is perfect and grasping, which result in an edge of the seat story. The background music is soothing and Gulzar made sure to give best for his daughter. There is not a single dull or bad moment in the film.

Talking about the stellar cast in the movie, I have to say 'mind blowing'. Irrfan Khan does it again. He leads the charge like a boss. It's so much fun to watch him on screen. He is serious, funny, humorous, sarcastic, unapologetic, rude..everything he plays with an ease. I don't know the names of many actors, even though I know them by face, everyone did a fantastic job.

It was great to watch a movie like Talvar on Gandhi Jayanti. The faults in the system, the non-interested investigating officers and the society..are properly represented in the movie. Thoroughly researched made the movie haunting and compelling.

A MUST WATCH MOVIE. FINEST MOVIE THIS YEAR.

Better Call Saul: Bingo (2015)
Season 1, Episode 7
10/10
Big men give their dream for good cause
17 March 2015
What a great episode it was. Better call Saul is getting better with each and every episode like Breaking Bad did. Bob Odenkirk deserves all the credit for portraying the image of an ambulance chaser so perfectly. Jonathan Banks continues being bad ass as always. His character is unfolding, although we have seen his full character in BB, he never gets too old for us.

The writing, directing and acting (so far) are on par with BB. Kudos to the creative cinematography of this show. According to me, it was the most crucial episode for Better Call Saul. Expectations are high after last two fabulous episodes. Waiting for the next episode with lot of excitement.

Baby (I) (2015)
7/10
Baby is a blend of many Hollywood films
29 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Neeraj Pandey is only two films old yet we have huge expectation from him, why? The answer is very simple, his previous works Wednesday and Special 26 proved his mettle. Unlike its predecessors, Baby is not an original work. It has a plot which is inspired from many Hollywood Terrorism thrillers. I would give my reviews by classifying the merits and demerits of the movie.

MERITS

  • Power packed performance from Akshay Kumar . This will surely highlight on his career CV. Well done Akki. - Anuapam Kher proves that he is a pro in Bollywood. - Danny as the boss or manager of the team is powerful and his presence is important. - Few edge of the seat action scenesand sequences. - Sometimes, background music is powerful. -Neeraj Pandey learnt from his mistakes committed in Special 26. No love interest or songs in between made it a comfortable journey unlike special 26. - Second half is gripping and action packed. - Side actors are wisely picked. Kay Kay menon looked great in his role. Tapsee you wild cat.

DEMERITS

  • You can't just waste talented Kay Kay Menon. His appearance was eclipsed by the loud background music. I mean, let the personality speak.

  • The plot was very ordinary, story started after interval. - The plot was copied from several Hollywood thrillers. - The ending was very similar to that of ARGO. - First half was very dumb. - The movie has many plot holes. - Dialogues were very ordinary, man. - Expected a lot from Mr Neeraj Pandey after his first two movies. - Why can't we be originals. After giving original works, Mr Pandey you could have taken a break and returned with a bang. We are not in any hurry

Sad to see a Nine pointer for this movie. Very average movie. I am giving 7 out of 10 because of performances and how well the movie was executed in the end despite of major plot holes in the first half.

Bad bad and bad
3 January 2015
Paid 500 bucks for the late night show on the very first day, felt like shooting myself after watching the crap.

WHY IS IT GOOD?

  • Aamir khan's dedicated performance which I would not rate among his to ten. - The movie progressed in decent pace.

WHY BAD? - Huge expectations from an Aamir Khan movie. - Why would Aamir choose such a script. Mr. Perfectionist, right? - Terrible performances by Abhishek and Uday Chopra. Please leave your acting careers guys. - Poor direction and poor script. Don't ever touch Nolan's genius works. Please ! - Action scenes are all crap. Stunts are cartoonish. - Poor visual effects. Bad, very bad. - Ending sucked. - They presumed that audiences are stupid. - Songs? Well, I don't remember. - So you telling me that Katrina was there in that movie? Ohh.

PK (2014)
8/10
The fall of Rajkumar Hirani?
3 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It took me quite while to write my review for the controversial PK.

WHY IS IT GOOD?

  • Rajkumar Hirani's intelligent and clever writing supported by Abhijit Joshi. - Unique Plot where an alien is introduced to a place where many religions survive. (What a curious plot) - Not only godmen are targeted but also the cultural differences are questioned. (After someone's death, white is the code among Hindus, black in Christians) which will confuse a person from other world. - Aamir Khan's preparation for his character can easily be seen. Top notch acting from Mr. Perfectionist. One of the best of his career. Just brilliant Aamir. - Cuteness of Anushka and Sushant. - Not a single boring minute in the film. The film progresses in a flow. - The issue the movie raises. Hindu fanatics are showing their true colors although the bad practices of every religions were targeted.

WHY IS IT BAD?

  • Huge expectations from Mr Hirani who gave us Munnabhai series and 3 Idiots. - Bad characterization of Boman Irani and Shukla. I don't find Shukla (My Fav) a fit in this role. Boman's talent is not utilized properly. - Out of sync songs which could not get mixed with the movie beautifully. Well, decent background score. - Love story between PK and Jaggu? Seriously? You are not a commercial director Hirani. - Oh My God came before Pk but is still remains in our Hearts. - The idea of a love story between a Pakistani and an Indian was great but it had serious flaws. It appeared out of syn many times. No clever writing here. - PK's debate with Tapasvi Maharaj? It could have been different in my opinion.

Aamir is forgiven for Dhoom 3. Rajkumar Hirani's Munnabhai Mbbs remains his masterpiece. Queen remains the delight this year. Aamir ruling box office as always.

Ugly (2013)
9/10
Most perfect title after years.
26 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After a very long wait, Ugly has hit the theaters with 'smoking kills' warning. There was a time when Bollywood lacked good thrillers; thanks to recent directions like Kahani and Talaash for improving our image in mainstream cinema.

Ugly is one of finest thriller I have seen in recent time. It is indeed Anurag Kashyap's finest thriller since Black Friday. It teaches us that one does not necessarily need mainstream actors to make a solid movie. Ronit Roy and Rahul leads the show with terrific performances by actors who are unknown for most of us. The two ladies also did a great job. The plot seems very simple at the start of the movie, but then it is sheer chaos. You get to feel that you are watching a David Fincher movie. Thanks to Kashyap for his writing and direction. The world is not so good. Money is the real boss. After a time, the story gets subtle and complex. You just forget about the poor missing child as the movie moves towards its main theme. MORALITY !!

I gave 10 stars keeping in mind the Bollywood standard of movie making. This is the finest thriller of 2014. I am not comparing it with the likes of David Fincher of David Lynch by giving a 10 star.

Permanent Roommates (2014–2023)
10/10
Revolution in Indian Fiction Shows
12 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
We had great TV serials. We were on the right track. Malgudi Days, Byomkesh Bakshi, Office Office, Hum Paanch etc ( There are many). Everything was going great...until...until a lady infested our TV SERIALS. She is responsible for our brain damages..she is responsible for making us the "poor audiences". She gave us Kyoki saas Bi khabhi bahu thi, Kasooti, Kumkum etc etc. She invaded our minds...she spoiled our senses...That lady needs no introduction. Once Naseruddin Shah said, "I can never be part of fiction on TV firstly because it's too time consuming and brain damaging."

TVF needs no introduction. They are the best. They neither run for TRP not Money. When they launched the teaser of Permanent Roommates, I was skeptical about it. To make a TV show, you need to think big; basically you need to be original. After watching the first episode I was awestruck ..It was unbelievable ..damn if I were a billionaire I would have launched a TV Channel for them. Everything was perfect. The humour, chemistry, bonding, sarcasm, emotions, background music, acting, direction, story and whatnot. This was something we deserved as an audience.

Just completed the final episode...I think their work is impeccable..well, I would say 'trend-setter'. To achieve this level of emotions and sentiments is something difficult. What a heart warming episode they created.

TVF TEAM YOU ROCK !! You make India pround...I can say with proud that we have our own sitcom..which is original...COOL !!

Interstellar (2014)
10/10
Or Perhaps we have forgotten...
10 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Perhaps we have forgotten that this movie is about father daughter relationship with interstellar voyage as a subplot. It was always about a Father who keeps his promise; it's about a daughter who had a faith in her father. Mathew gives the soul to his father character. Further, it cannot be concluded that Cooper is not concerned with his son. Tom is elder than Murph and he undertakes his father's responsibility with some maturity. On the other hand, Cooper is worried about his other kid, Murph, who is a curious kid... angry at her father. From the very first scene to the very end, it is about "keeping promises" and "keeping faith". It is evident in the end when Cooper returns as a 124 year old man, eager to meet Murph. As he enters the room, where Murph his lying, all other family members leave. There is neither focus on the family nor Cooper meets his family. Why? It's all about Cooper and Murph. Anne hathaway and Jessica Chastain were great. I pretty liked the Young Murph too. Matt Damon, you rocked. I did not see that coming.

About plot holes? I, actually, flunked in Physics. C'mon people? The script was great. It is just theories, which can be either right or wrong. Critics are hammering this movie, which I don't understand; Nolan enganged kip thorne, so it is clear that things were pretty logical and the project was given proper attention. Nolan is not a fool.

About Christopher Nolan? I am not qualified enough to review his direction. NOLAN IS GENIUS. IN NOLAN WE TRUST.

The Lunchbox (2013)
10/10
Sometimes even the wrong train can take you to the right destination
7 November 2014
Very sad to see IMDb ratings for this title. I mean, only 7.8 out of 10? This is the finest Indian movie ever made, hands down!!

We belong to the age of Facebook, whatsapp or BBM. Ritesh Batra proved that the letters tucked in tiffin boxes from unknown persons are better than any damn way of communication. Ritesh Batra, the director, was unknown to me until this movie. What a way to start his career. Everything is just so perfect about this movie. The director succeeds in capturing true human emotions. The director also succeeded in capturing the hard life in Mumbai in just 2 hours. The movie portrays neglected housewives who live vulnerable lives in the never-stopping-city. How hard life is for the ever caring mothers who are not given attention by their husbands. The director's choice of picking songs is applaudable. Sajan movie's song easily mixes up with boys singing song in train. WOW.

Coming to the performances, Nimrat Kaur as Ila is the cornerstone of the film. Nirmat Kaur, the unknown actress makes her mark quite powerfully. Irrfan khan, you are a living legend man, WOW. Nawazuddin Siddiqui (kaise he sir?) hahahaha...speechless about his performance. Not to forget terrific Bharati Achrekar, who was heard but never seen.

Well, coming to the end, the film shows you the hardship and pain of life: it sketches the loneliness of Mumbai. The film gives you the fates of protagonist in the end. Make either a happy ending or a sad one. I would like to see lovebirds in Bhutan though.

WELL, IT WAS DELICIOUS ...

The Walking Dead: Four Walls and a Roof (2014)
Season 5, Episode 3
10/10
It's just four walls and one roof...
27 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Debutante director Jeffrey F. January should get all the credit for this intense episode. From beginning to the very end, the episode was quite intense and well directed. Well, adiós to Bob's character; the punishment is also well served to Gareth and Company. Daryl was missing the entire episode and only showed up at the mysterious end (should not make him disappear again). No doubt that next Sunday will bring Beth's story (if Daryl and Carol brought her with him) or it's just they lost Beth?? Anyways, next Sunday all the doubts will cleared as the show will focus on Beth.

I disliked how the group separated. I mean Rick was always against this very idea, but it was Glenn's ultimate choice. Let's have faith in AMC and wait for the next storyline.

Rick and co. are the finest survivors.....

The Walking Dead: Strangers (2014)

If things continue the same way...
20 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Just two episodes old season 5 proves that this season has the potential to become the best season if things continue the same way. The writers should get credit for this. The 2nd episode of season 5 introduces Father Grabiel, who is hiding something (Now, that's fun). I was wondering about Beth from a week and here we are with Daryl and Carol chasing some anonymous car and getting separated from the group.

And the Cannibals are also back. But this time they invite us to join their BBQ Fest. Can't express my feelings after watching the last few minutes (BBQ should be avoided for some time, I guess). You got to feel something for poor Bob because he knows how good he tastes after being barbecued...oh, heck.

The Walking Dead: No Sanctuary (2014)
Season 5, Episode 1

Will this season concentrate on Cannibalism?
13 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
To begin with, the episode was flawless. A good starting for a season 5. It has finally begun, which means more death, blood and walkers. Carol is mind blowing as she shows her new and powerful side, which was visible in the 4th season. Her role in this episode is prime as she sets the plot for Rick and group's return with a bang.

I thought that this season will concentrate, in the first half, on Cannibalism and survival instinct of Rick's group. But freaking NO, it's over..they have escaped. This means the story line is going somewhere else. There is lots to come, which is predictable from the pilot. We are Ready !!

P.s: Watch out for the 'burning' walkers.

How to make a film on Gandhi
3 October 2014
Well, this is one unnoticed movie in Bollywood. No one has ever heard about this movie, which is quite unfortunate. Even I was unaware of this beauty until my brother referred this movie to me. My first question was, "which movie is this?, I have never heard" He replied, it has Paresh Rawal and Om Puri, and this is the only thing which tempted movie.

After watching this excellent piece of work I was surprised. I regretted to remain in the dark about this movie for at least 3 years. Paresh Rawal played the role of a "human being" who is not in the clutches of religion. He is a simple middle class mechanic, who truly understand the Islam unlike the other fundamentalist. I am not qualified enough to comment on his acting. Om Puri, on the other hand, is a religious zealot. Moreover, being a citizen of Indian he is inclined more towards Pakistan. We see a picture of Mohammed Jinnah hanging on his wall. We see pictures of Pakistani Cricketers too. It shows that he is not satisfied with the Indian Government and Indian people, mainly Hindus as they provide hostile treatment to Muslims.Pawan Malhotra played a role of Maulana which could not have been played by any other person, I bet. He is again a zealot, but different from Om Puri. He will never change. His acting is mind blowing.

How to make a movie on Gandhi? Find a good actor, making him bald, make him weak, make him protest on reel life against the British.. and you have a movie. ROAD TO SANGAM, on the other hand, teaches us to remember GANDHI by not making his character live on the REEL life, but to weave the ideologies in our lives. This is the only movie which pays homage to GANDHI. Hats off AMIT RAI, the writer and director.

For those people who have not watched this movie, pls do ureselves a favour and watch it immediately. It is one the best movie in Indian cinema. This one is a treat to watch. Watch it for ACTING, watch is for the real issue which the movie introduces, watch it for humanity....JUST GO AND WATCH !!!!!

Haider (2014)
9/10
Vishal Bharadwaj does it again
2 October 2014
As viewers, we don't get to watch many sensible movies in India. Movies like Haider should not be missed as it is not a DVD-Watch stuff. It is very difficult to portray a Shakespearian drama into an Indian Setup. For Vishal it is not a big deal as he has done it thrice Completing the Shakespearian trilogy successfully.

Shahid Kapoor proves that he is the son of great Pankaj Kapoor by giving us a powerful performance. Tabu played a heartbreaking yet a deceptive woman. Kay Kay Menon's performances was outstanding. Irrfan's cameo was a treat to watch. The two salman guys did a great comic part. The remaining cast, along with the lovely Shraddha Kapoor, did a fantastic job.

The ending was quite different from original Hamlet drama, which I wouldn't be disclosing. Give yourselves some time to watch this beautiful movie with seductive poetic dialogues about love, politics and revenge.
