Jurassic Park (1993)
A classic action adventure!
When this film came out it had an incredible impact on me as a person. I was a regular teenager(?) and became an insanely fanatic movie geek! Spielberg was like a god to me, since he already had made Jaws, Close Encounters and ET.
Jurassic Park is one of those action films that hasn't aged a bit since it's release. The editing, cinematography and special fx are all brilliant. The CGI surpasses many of todays fx-films. This has a lot to do with the extra time and care the team at ILM spent to get the fx-shots just right. The T-Rex attack in the rainy night is by far one of the most brilliant action scenes ever!
The plot and characters follows a fairly familiar dramatic line. There's nothing "new under the sun". But the whole film is just so brilliantly crafted in every possible way. I'm certain Jurassic Park will stand tall in years to come......

In the Name of the Father (1993)
Moving. Brilliantly crafted. Great on every level.
Jim Sheridan has created something special with this movie. The true story of a Father and Son who are wrongly accused and imprisoned, is both intense and moving on several levels. Doomed to spend the rest of they're life in prison, a strong relationship develops between them.
"In the name of the Father" starts of in the early seventies. It manages to recreate the period in great detail. The photography, music, set-decoration and the editing is top of the line. But what makes this film amazing are the performances of Lewis, Postlethwaite and Thompson. The chemistry between them is incredible, and as a viewer you are taken on a journey trough every emotion possible.
A must for every living person.9/10
Villmark (2003)
Stupid
This film could have been something. It has a great location, good actors, nice production-values and so on. What the film desperately needs is a better script. It sort of starts out good, but as the film develops the story looses it's sense and direction(so does the characters...). Especially Bjørn Floberg's character needs some explanation!
Having in mind the low budget and short shooting-period, the director Pål Øie shows some skill with the actors. But he fails to deliver the scares. There are plenty of opportunities to do that in the film, so it's a damn shame. Shame on you Mr. Øie, Shame on you...(just kidding) My rating is *1/2 of ****.
Ni liv (1957)
Best Norwegian film ever.
Ni Liv is based on a true story. We follow Jan Baalsrud on his dramatic escape from the Germans after a sabotage-mission. Being the only survivor, he has to flee across the Norwegian mountains to Sweden. He encounters different people and hard weather conditions during his incredible journey.
Director Arne Skouen has created a unique experience of a film. It is a celebration of the human spirit and a tale of incredible courage. The visual style of the film is at a level never seen in Norwegian film before (or after). Jack Fjellstad also delivers a great performance in the leading role. The traces of on stage acting, witch is common in Norwegian film, are completely erased.
In short. This is a highly imaginative and wonderful film not to be missed.
My rating :***1/2 out of ****.
The Magnificent Ambersons (1942)
Magnificent (Lost) Masterpiece. (minor spoilers)
This is by far one of the best films ever made. Or at least, it could have been. This drama adapted by Welles, from Booth Tarkington's novel about a troubled family at the turn of the 20th century, contains great characters, set-decoration and cinematography. By watching it I'm both stunned and sad at the same time thinking about what this movie could have been, if it hadn't been taken out of Welles' hands. Re-cutting and re-shooting this film is probably the greatest mistake a studio has ever done. The remaining pieces ( 88min. out of approx 145min.) still has a great punch to them. Welles' clever camera-setups and powerful direction, matches his previous film, Kane, in every way. The conflict within the family are explored by great dialog and acting by it's cast. Don't miss this one. ps. sorry, my English is not that good......
