The Shining (1980)
Thrilling atmosphere
21 August 2003
One of the best horror-movies ever made. Even better the the famous "Exorcist". Shelly Duvall in her best role, Jack Nicholsons impressive performance and Stanley Kubricks vision together result this thrilling horror-masterpiece. Kubrick atmosphere leaves a deep trace- the big and really scary rooms in the Hotel, the colors, the exterriors, the music, ... all joined in a exciting Stephen King horror- novel makes this film unique. Danny Lloyd and Scatman Crothers also deserve to be praised.

The ultimate legend of all movies. The movie that changed everything. Jack Nicholson appears after his first big role in "Chinatown" and shines. Milos Forman`s creation has to be praised- a mixture of drama and comedy fulfilled with deep emotions. Forman presents a whole new world, a world behind "the Wall". There is one enthusiastic person who tries to destroy, or better, avoid this barrier, but finally fails. Like the political scene in the middle 70`s in Europe, two different worlds separated, causing so much pain and trouble for a ordinary person. Inside "the Wall" the regime dictates and jepardizes the basic thoughts of democracy and freedom. Formans great talent to find a balanced story, which enters deeply inside of you; and a remarkable cast of Nicholson, Fletcher, DeVito and Redfield all together make a winning formula.

This film is the real prototype of all the modern movies made after it, from the "Rain Man", the "Deer Hunter" to the modern "Girl. Interrupted".

Forman and Kubrick led us into a new era of film, as the real leaders of modern Cinema.

This is the one of ten or tweenty movies you MUST SEE. 10 of 10

Chinatown (1974)
You must see it

Well, this is not just some other freak and weird Roman Polanski movie, this is a trully amazing Thriller, a real masterpiece.

It was the summer 2001, I was at home and just wached a TV-show. Then I decided to take some of my Uncles old videotapes, recorded maybe before I was born. I am realy a big J. Nicholson fan so I choosed "Chinatown"...

First of all the cast-the "Great Jack" as J.J.Gittes in oen of his greatest roles, plays a young and handsome privat detective who gets involed in a complicated crime and murder. There is also a mysterios woman- Evelyn Mulwray played by Faye Dunaway.

Second- the story- the main story is followed by other happenings that seem not to be bandaged, but follow the make operation.

Third- Mr. Polanski done his job brilliant- this movie could easily be boring and too slow, but with Polanskis skill and abillity to project his thoughts, and the big help of R. Town the movie managed to score, and will be remembered as one of the best of all-times.

Highly recommended, 9 of 10

Batman (1989)
8/10
Burton`s masterpiece
21 July 2003
This is truly a Fantasy/Comic movie-masterpiece. First of all- the excellent cast- Jack Nicholson shines in the role of the manic and crazy Jocker. Nicholsons character is truly amazing- like a mixture of his former roles/characters in "Chinatown" (Jake Gittes), "One Flew Over the Cuchoo`s Nest" (Randle McMurphy), "Prizzie` s honor" (C.Partanna), "the Witches of Eastwick" (Daryl Van Horn) and of course "The Shining" (Jack Torrance)- but (the character) still keeps his own style. Michael Keaton also proves to be the ideal type for Burtons`s Batman. He reminds on the dark Batman from the "Dark Knight" Batman comics, and is the exact opposite of Batman introduced by Adam West in the 70`s. Second, Tim Burton created a unique athmosphere, exactly matching to the characters. Some people say that this movie is to dark, but I wouldn`t agree. I must not forget to mention the exciting Batman Theme composed by Danny Elfmann. Burton`s Batman, differnt from all the other Comic-hero movies, like Spiderman, Superman, Flash or Hulk, provides a refreshing character dimension.

One of the best movies in the 80`s.

To slow, to predictable, but still likable.
21 July 2003
I wouldnt agree that this movie is a masterpiece. The main story is not complicated and very predictable, with the missing feeling for romance or drama. I would say that this movie is just average movie that you wach on a late Thursday evening. We follow a femal psychiater who is tired of just listening sad storys from her patients and distribute low-rated advices. When a patient threads by killing himself because of money-trouble with his poker-friend, she accepts to help him and visits his friend. The tempo of this movie is not good tempered, in my opinion to slow. The only thing that is good about this movie are the dialogs who include some reel good advices.

The most thrilling Star Trek movie...
20 July 2003
The most thrilling Star Trek movie with exellent cast of William Shatner (Admiral Kirk), Leonard Nimoy(Captian Spock) and Ricardo Montalban (Kahn) and a remarkable Co-starring Kirstie Alley (Saavik; Alley s motion picture debut). This is the first, and only Star Trek ovie in which a Classic-Star Trek Character from the TV-Series appears. Star Trek II is a perfect blend of action, drama, humor and SF.This ST movie is maybe the only movie that is not only for "Trekkies". The story is well composed and balanced, with a unexpected ending. This movie is also maybe the darkest of all ST-movies. The main theme is based on the revenge of an old enemy (Kahn) but we also find that this movie sets some philosopkical questions about life and Men, like-" Can we play God ?". The special effects are not so intensed as on the first movie, but are very fine adopted. The classic ST-Theme (written by Alexander Courage) is mixed with additional themes composed by R. Horner.
