Animal (2023)
Pseudo intellectual
One hit wonder Sandeep Reddy tries to stretch the same formula too far with Animal. He tries to infuse too many anti social item bits into his threadbare thin plot to the movie's detriment. If only he was not spoiled with the huge success his one hit wonder movie Arjun Reddy received, he probably would have been sane enough to see that all those supposed to be shocker item bits were actually spoiling his movie which probably could have been a good enough movie especially so since Ranbir gives a lifetime performance. One US online reviewer aptly jokes (it's true) that it isn't children friendly, in fact it isn't even human friendly and it is probably just animal friendly.
Jilebi (2023)
Light fun & frolic rollercoaster.
With Jilebi, Legendary filmmaker Vijayabhaskar is back to form. This light fun and frolic rollercoaster doesn't give us even one minute of respite in it's runtime over one hundred and forty minutes.
Jilebi could have gone into Vijayabhaskar's pantheon of superhit films like manmadhudu, nuvvu naku nachavu and nuvve kavali if only there was some emotional heaviness added to the proceedings. But again on second thoughts, if some melodrama was added, it could have spoiled the light hearted fun mood which the movie successfully maintains through our from beginning to end.
Kamal, Shivani Rajasekhar and their young team do justice to their roles.
Dongala Mutha (2011)
Indian film-noir at last
a little pruning would have made this film less tedious. the constraint, as many film buffs from Indian diaspora know, is the time. total filming was done in five days except probably for patch work. once you know the time constraint under which the film was made, you can better appreciate the picture.
the camera used for the filming was canon 5d.the picture is absolutely on par with the regular celluloid films and sometimes even more sharper.
anything about the script would only be a spoiler. you just can't classify it in either comedy or thriller. it's both.
only ramgopal varma could have done it and you can only admire the way he is able to reinvent the whole process of film making after being in it for over two decades.
