Kapoor & Sons (2016)
This family entertainer is a must watch!
To start with, Rishi Kapoor takes the cake. And his Oscar winning make up artist (It take 6-8 hours to get that makeup done). Its not laudable just because Rishi Kapoor went thru that painstakingly slow process of getting the make up done but because he was the funniest person on the screen and whenever he was not in a scene I was just hoping his character will pop up somehow and crack us all up.
Kapoor and Sons is a pure family drama (with a lot of humour) along with one witty Dadu in the house, his 2 sons (Rajat Kapoor + 1) and Rajat's 2 sons - Fawad being the elder son who gets all the pampering and Sidharth the so called chota nikkamma son.
The best part about the movie is that it sticks to its title. Its about the Kapoor and sons and thats exactly what you get to see in this 2 hours and 20 minutes of drama, comedy and romance. The sons and their struggles, their inhibitions, their lies and their love.
The other beautiful part is the direction and dialogues. Every time the family erupts in a brawl it does not appear made up. It seems as though a real family is fighting with real issues, its not filmy at all. Watch out for the plumber scene. His punchline is ultimate and so apt for that scene. Birthday part was neat too. We have not really seen much of Fawad Khan but this movie could as well be a turning point in his acting career in Bollywood. This changes everything for him. He has delivered real well. Not been a fan of Sidharth Malhotra myself but am not complaining with his performance either. But the true acting stars are Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Pathak (after Rishi Kapoor). Their acting standards needs no introduction and they have outperformed themselves, as always. Alia Bhat brings the glamour factor to the movie (after Fawad) and she seem to get connected to the family instantly (and how! watch out for the mess up).
For the one liners, the argument scenes, the humour, the complexity in the relationships between each other/ with others and for the Kapoors and Sons, go watch it!
Ugly (2013)
Edge of the seat thriller. Cinematic Excellence.
Warning: The movie has abusive language. But relax, its nowhere close to Gangs of Wasseypur.
Well, before anything, you should know Ugly is a cinematic excellence. This is not the typical movie trying to win the 100 Crore race. For that matter, this will not even look like a movie. Yes, you will feel this is happening near your home. Yes, it will make you feel that real. Yes, the actors are so grounded to the character they will not appear actors. In fact, other than Ronit Roy you may not be able to recognize anyone. Actually, that's good, you do not get to judge them from their part performances.
Plot: Kali, a 10 year old girl goes missing. That's all I can tell you.
Talking about performances the movie has Ronit Roy (Police Chief and Step father of Kali) in an intense role. After Udaan, my expectations from him has sky rocketed and he still satisfies me, what a class actor! Others include Girish Kulkarni (Inspector Jhadav), Vineet Kumar (Chaitanya), Surveen Chawla (Rakhi) , Vipin Sharma, Rahul Bhat (Father of the Kali) and Tejaswini Kolhapure (mother of Kali).
As I said earlier you will not even feel like its a movie, everything is just so real, not made up, not stages, actual locations and just too factual. I am planning to watch it again to ensure all the calculations I did in my mind was actually correct and fit the puzzle. Everyone is so deep into the role that at no point in time I felt its a movie. The very first scene at the police station where Rahul and Chaitanya have come to file a report for the missing child will take your breath away. It's just so real. No filmy dialogues, no extra drama, no zoom in zoom out camera tricks. Plain real scene and the dialogues (so close to real life). You would also love the rawness of the entire movie, no extra frill, no main hero, no main heroine, no main villain and no flying people. Guess that seriously disqualifies Ugly from the 100 crore club. Am I glad to know that! One important fight sequence in the movie is just too real without any background score to add up drama. After all its Ronit Roy, he can handle every aspect of a serious scene. You will not look for anything else when he is in front of you.
Shalini (Kali's mom) gives a super performance. Rahul (father of the girl) will make you think, he might have done it himself for the love of money. Rahul's friend Chaitanya, he seemed a clear suspect who could do it, what a dialogue delivery. Another character Siddhanth, Shalini's brother has his own agenda in life and he will also make you think he did it.
But who really did it?
Well, don't ask me that. Go watch and find it out yourself. I made 3 predictions and changed them during the course of the movie. Let me know how did it go for you!!
Anurag Kashyap ji. Aap ko salaam.
PK (2014)
One time watch, but a must.
If you just hear Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani in one statement then you need not wait to hear anything else about a movie - Its got to be an epic. And going by what is Aamir Khan expected to do in each one of his projects, the expectations build up way to high. All this while (and even in PK) Aamir has lived upto this expectation.
But PK cannot be compared to a '3 Idiots' level of epic, for 2 specific reason. Firstly, there cannot be another 3 Idiots. Period. No other movie can match 3 Idiots' brilliance. Secondly, PK did not have the novelty. A film with a similar concept released last year - Oh My God.
PK is made with a good heart, Is funny all along, questions your blind faith and questions common sense but it came a year too late to the cinemas. Oh My God scored high for its novelty concept questions the same set of things. I loved that movie to the core. PK on the other reminded me of Oh My God time to time. Not taking away the fact that PK is funnier and Aamir's performance is a notch above the rest.
Anushka Sharma looks gorgeous and has a critical role to play in the movie. I loved her performance and all her dresses :) Sushant Singh Rajput does justice to his part and so does Suarabh Shukla as Tapasvi Maharaj. But nothing beats Shuklaji's judge character in Jolly LLB.
The movie moved swiftly in the first half and kind of dragged in the second. Last 20 odd minutes of the movie was a total drag. It could have been better in short duration. The last 60 seconds has a surprise for you, watch out. Songs of PK are a 1 time hear, nothing great. All in all a 1 time watch.
Gone Girl (2014)
A must must must must watch!
1 Line Review: A must must must watch.
Yes, you saw it right. Its a 10 star rating. Could not have been anything else. Its a deadly cocktail of 10 star story and 10 star acting. Before anything I would like to confess that I bought the book almost 6 months back and read only 50 pages and got busy in life. Am not much into fiction, I only repent I should have read the book. FYI - A book paints a much awesome picture than what any movie can ever do. 'The Wolf of Wall Street' is another such example. Thankfully I read the book and saw the movie. Ya, in that order.
Back to Gone Girl. As the title suggests, its a story of a girl who goes missing. And this girl AMY (played by Rosamund Pike) is Nick's (Ben Affleck) wife. What really happened to her? Did someone kidnap her? Did Nick himself kill her? Did the marriage go bad?
Phew, the story take such interesting turns that I cannot tell you anything beyond this. Frankly, storyline makes or breaks a movie. This book written by the great Gillian Flynn will only make you think hard how these people can write such stuff! How can you think of such complex plots! I wish I had more imagination to write such beautiful suspense stories! :)
Ben Affleck is considered one of the best actors in the Hollywood and rightly so. Have you seen 'ARGO'? You better watch it if you have not, if you have already done it, you should watch it multiple times. I do that. He is a genius. This movie will go in my library of frequently watched movies.
Just so you know, 'Gone Girl' has been directed by David Fincher, the same person who gave us 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' (its a masterpiece, you should watch it), 'Social Network' (again an awesome movie) and the blockbuster 'The curious Case of Benjamin Button'. David is a super director.
Every department in the movie gets a 5 star! Lets talk about the girl herself who goes missing! Rosamund Pike is a phenomenal actor. I remember her from 'Die Another Day' and 'Jack Reacher'. Her acting in this movie is unparalleled. If I tell you any more, I will be dishonouring the disclaimer above! :)
Go watch this two and half hour epic. If you sit relaxed for even a minute during the entire movie duration, I will pay your ticket money back. Yup, that's how good it is.
Bonus: You will get glimpses of Vidya Balan's Kahaani and the Barney avatar from How I Met Your Mother, with his gadget laden house!
Let the awesomeness begin!
The Judge (2014)
Gripping Drama, the Iron Man and the Judge will keep you hooked!
You should watch it for these two superstars - Robert Downey, Jr. (Hank) and Robert Duvall (Judge). At the ages of nearing 50 and 83 respectively, they are like the mecca of acting. The work is so flawless that never ever you will know that are actually acting!
Hank is Judge's 2nd son and lives separately, visits his dad and his 2 brothers when his mom dies. On the same night Judge is accused of a murder, that too of a convict whom he has sentenced jail 20 years back. Hank is a very successful lawyer and after his dad tries out a new boy to be his lawyer for the case, Hank takes up the case.
The movie is funny (hilarious at times), romantic, dramatic and has a lot of elements of suspense. Along with some fantastic performance by supporting actors, both the Roberts will keep you glued to the plot. Most of the 2nd half is full of courtroom drama and as it unfolds every scene gets very exciting. Disclosure: I love courtroom dramas. 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' is a good one (not for the faint hearted though).
How Hank's romantic side unfolds is hilarious but tragic at the same time. Hank's relationship with his dad has gone through enough ups and down, the aggressive discussion between the dad and the son in the middle of the movie is very moving and touching, again fine actors at their best!
Movie duration being 2 hours and 20 mins, is slightly long but will never bore you. I highly recommend you watch this one.
Ek Villain (2014)
Jo hero hai woh villain hai aur jo villain hai wahi hero hai.
The movie starts with a bang but then drags; then starts Rakesh's story (Riteish Deshmukh) and that gives much relief from Shraddha Kapoor, as she has acted like a 10 year old (and with that innocence) in the body of an adult. Her dialogue delivery sucks big time. She needs to learn much from another actor who started her career around the same time - Alia Bhat. But I do agree Shraddha is damn beautiful.
Thankfully my biggest fear did not come true. I thought she will bore me to death by calling out 'Aye Villain' throughout the movie, she did start but it ended very soon.
Sidharth Malhotra looks much mature in this one, but then like all his previous movies he is unable to pack in the punch. May be a missing 'X factor' or something. He will get there very soon. I hear ladies loved him in this movie, nevertheless. Good for him.
But for me, Riteish is the real hero of Ek Villain. He packed in the right punch needed for his role. I will not reveal what he did for a living (other than being a telephone maintenance man) but then this psycho character is too interesting to watch, in a funny and cruel way, at the same time. (Director Mohit Suri has refuted all claims that this character is based on a Korean movie - I saw the devil). His wife 'Shullu', played by Aamna Sharif has the second best role and she delivers.
The so called actual big villain of the movie is Remo Fernandes and he disappoints, big time.
But then the biggest disappointment of the movie is giving a role to Kamaal R Khan. I mean, you did not get anyone else? Rajpal Yadav would have played that character with such ease. Audience loves him. I would actually like to penalize 0.5 starts for this blunder. Yes, 2.5 now.
This loss is quickly made up in the end by Prachi Desai who comes in for a special performance and she sizzles.
The music is very good. But if you are like me, you would have played all its songs 500 times already! :) Wait for credits to roll as Shraddha Kapoor sings Galliyan. She is damn good beautiful singer, no doubts.
If you are not doing much this weekend, I suggest you give it a watch.
If you figure out who is the real villain and what really happens in the climax, comment below.
Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
Poster says it all - Live-Die-Repeat. I say - Go-Watch-Now!
Even though you see the lead actors dying, you don't mind it since they live again and again and again. Plus they are two beautiful people whom we all love - Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt! :) It is a Sci-Fi movie based on a Japanese novel - All you need is kill.
After being killed by the alien enemy, Cage (Tom) develops the ability to see what will happen tomorrow, until he dies. Then he wakes up/lives again to repeat the process. He continues to do so until he perfects the art of killing the enemy, an alien kind creature who also has the ability to see the future. Cage meets Rita (Emily) who tells him that she also has been having similar dreams/visions. Deal was to get killed if things were not getting the way they wanted, instead of stay bleeding.
Even when it sounds a little complicated, it is not. It actually gets very very funny. Humour to such an extent that I will put this movie in 'Humour Sci-Fi', if at all there is such an category.
Something new happened in this movie - The 3D effects were really good and amazed me at regular intervals. Yes, I am saying this! Unlike all other 3D movies which I have complained about, this one was good.
I have watched 3D movies in Inox, PVR and Cinepolis. The winner for best 3D glasses/effects is Cinepolis. Hands down.
Like a typical sci-fi movie Edge of Tomorrow has action, drama, comedy, thrill and suspense. It will keep you on the edge of your seat - either making you laugh out loud or out of sheer thrill and suspense. Clearly the winner is the script/plot. Graphics are truly world class and acting is superb - well, it has to be. It's Tom Cruise after all!
I suggest you go for it. NOW!
Confession: I went with an exception that it would be another been-there-seen-that kind of typical American-soldiers-saves-the-world kinda movie but I was pleasantly surprised.
Filmistaan (2012)
Give it a watch, it has a heart.
The movie is based on a wanna-be-actor Sunny who gets kidnapped (mistakingly) and taken to Pakistan near Rajasthan border.
Watch it for the two lead actors Sharib Hashmi (Sunny) and Inaamulhaq (Aftaab) who have given a great performance. Kidnappers keep Sunny in Aftaab's house and Aftaab makes his living out of selling pirated CD's. Goes without saying they immediately connect!
The story revolves around Sunny's life while he is kept in custody. His multiple failed attempts to escape and his wanna-be-actor wala junoon keeps the fun alive and kicking in the movie.
You will love the spontaneity of the character who is so deeply engrossed in his love with Bollywood that even at places where you expect him to deliver a sentimental dialogue, he repeats typical Bollywood dialogues. When he first realises he is in Pakistan, he innocently worries about him not carrying his passport! Another beautiful part of this movie involves Sallu bhai's movie - Maine Pyaar Kiya. Watch it and you will know why and saying so. If you do not stop laughing don't tell me I did not warn you! :)
The movie is short (slightly less than 2 hours) and you will not believe that its already interval as the 1st half is really engrossing. 2nd half drags a little, could have been done with few detailed scenes.
You might be able to predict the end but then its not supposed to be a suspense movie, its a movie with a heart and shows the world how India and Pakistan essentially has the same culture and likings, if only the border was not there in-between it could have been a better world.
Watch it for Sharib Hashmi.
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
Went in with lot of expectation, came out disappointed.
Yes, that's true. It did not give me as much thrill as I would have expected from a X-Men series. I would rather suggest you watch X-Men: First Class, again.
The X-Mens send Wolverine back in time to alter an event where the government gets hold of Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and they use her DNA to make mutant killing machines. Hence the name of the movie.
The first half still went well as there was enough humour, thrill and action involved. Especially the scene where Magneto is being taken away from the Pentagon.
One laughable moment I would specially like to mention here is that Magneto was prisoned for killing of JFK and later he tells Professor that he was trying to save JFK and not kill him, since JFK was also one of them - a mutant! #TooMuch
Even though I love Jennifer Lawrence more than anyone in Hollywood, even though this movie has so much of her, the story line disappointed me and left me wanting for more. Less action, less thrill, less of everything that you expect from an X-Men movie.
I would rather watch The Hunger Games again and again to get more from Jennifer. She is too good in that movie, if you have still not seen it, do it now.
Special Mention: PVR's 3D glasses sucked big time. As always I repented not going for a 2D show.
Just like the earlier release this month - The Amazing Spiderman, I would ask you to give this X- Men also a miss.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
Average. Delivers the expected.
Yet another Spiderman movie. Yet another super hero movie. Or so I thought but after watching Captain America 2 I had changed my opinion about any superhero movie being yet another boring sequel since Cap America 2 was good. But alas, this came out an average entertainer. Captain America 2 was still much better (as a sequel).
To be frank, with a run time of nearly two and half hours I was very exhausted by the end. Another frank confession is that I liked the Spiderman cast more than the Amazing Spider-man's. Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Willem Dofoe looked more into the grove. Peter Parker's love for Mary Jane Watson seemed full of chemistry. In comparison, Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spiderman, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Done Dehaan as Harry Osborn did not really fit their respective roles. I personally felt all of them were not into the role 100%.
Over Amazing Spider-man series I would watch the Spiderman (any 4) movie. Anytime.
Having said that, the Amazing Spider-man 2 had its good parts too. Like the many funny scenes involving Perter Parker and her aunt and Spider- man's talking over phone which stuck on front of a truck. On the emotional scale also it did click at a few places but over-all the story did not feel so convincing to me. The villein (Electro) became a villein of Spider-man out of nowhere or shall I say just because of a small miscommunication. Was not convincing enough to build a full movie with a weak villein.
This movie has come out in 3D as well as 2D. Unlike earlier times I will not ask you to refrain form watching it in 3D. It has its 3D moments, especially when Spider-man jumps around from one building to another. The effects were awesome. But then unlike a movie like Avatar where there is so much to show in 3D, these movies will not aways have incredible scenes to show in 3D for the entire duration. At times I even took off the glasses to ensure I don't get a headache from watching a 3D movie (which makes the print darker).
Another interesting part about this Spider-man movie was that it has a lot of revelations about the past and what really happened to his parents and why really they had to leave a young Peter and moved out for good.
I would recommend you watch this movie without any comparison in mind and you will like it. Don't forget to take the younger generation with you.
Revolver Rani (2014)
Watch it for that News Anchor! :)
Revolver Rani is a loose remake of Kill Bill. Now lower your hopes by 80% and continue reading.
The last movie in which we saw Kangana is lot to blame, I have written this in my review of Queen as well that the expectations have always been way to low from a Kangana movie until Queen arrived! And you can imagine what the audience expected. Not what we saw in Revolver Rani. Not at all.
From the very first scene the movie appeared weak. To make you understand better I would like to compare most part of the movie with school play where it appears clearly that kids are trying their best to act and in turn overacting.
Kangana did not fit the role. The aggressiveness and ferociousness required for the character never came up to a satisfactory point from Revolver Rani.
Few of the actors were from Gangs of Wasseypur. Like Piyush Mishra and Zeishan Quadri. Both gave average performances as there was hardly a strong script for them to outperform. Vir Das was the lead actor (yes, you read it right) and he was totally disappointing. Guess he should stick to live comedy shows only. He was completely out of place.
In fact the TV news anchor who kept appearing every now and then had a better role than the main leads. Her dialogue delivery made an awesome impact. Audience burst into laughter, every single time. Guess she outperformed even when she was no where in the running! :)
Music was average, the title song had some pep but nothing much in the entire album.
Over all it was not worth the watch, as usual I suggest you watch it on TV in the passing. I rate Revolver Rani 2 stars as Kangana is definitely a good star and she did not disappoint me, just that she did not fit the role that well.
Rio 2 (2014)
OK but Rio was far better.
As I said, Rio was much better, exciting and thrilling.
After the 1st movie Blu and jewel have settled in Rio and have 3 kids. On TV they see blu's earlier owner and protector trying to find more macaw's in the Amazon. Jewel suggests that all of them should go to the Amazon forrest to help their human friends - Linda and her husband.
They leave for Amazon and thrill beings. In the meanwhile the villein from the first movie - Nigel the cockatoo tries to take revenge for making him a bird which cannot fly. Along with that mission his friends join - the frog who is perpetually in love with Nigel and the ant eater who is interested in only eating ants and nothing else. Later his tongue is used for way too many interesting activities.
Gabi, the frog, is the most funny of all. Her love for Nigel is out of this world and her dialogues, her song, her accent is way too funny. Bulldog is cute. Nigel's audition is incredible. Blu's induction program and training for getting accustomed to jungle life is funny too.
Over all the movie has the expected share of charm, colors, songs, dance sequences, thrill and cuteness. But that's the problem, these things were expected and hence the movie was at par. Nothing extraordinary or above average.
I would say, you wait for it to appear on TV and then watch it. Rio series is made my the same folks as Ice Age. Rio 2 may not be big hit. I liked it as a one time watch. It's in 3D, just fyi.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Warning you up for The Avengers!
Captain America also has the usual villein and hero chemistry but there are good suspense elements and the characters were nicely casted. As the jokes are making the rounds on twitter, this movie is only warming you up for The Avengers! Am not complaining.
Goes without saying that I love Scarlett Johansson (we all do), heard her in her last movie HER (it has only her voice, ya sad) hence was more excited to see her do the fight sequences with such flawlessness. More like Katrina Kaif in Ek Tha Tiger. But that's a different love story all together! :) Pardon my comparison, I love both of them.
You will also get to see 'Robin' from 'How I Met Your Mother'. Yes, Cobie Smulders is in the movie with a short role. HIMYM ended recently, after 10/11 long years and it was a major fail (ideally it should have ended 5 years back!). You would also spot 'Emily' from the 'Revenge' fame. I was big fan of Revenge until the first 2 season but then lost interest at it just got dragged too much. I liked Emily's performance hence was excited to see her in a neat and sassy role.
Chris Evans needs no introduction. He has been a part of many super hero movies and has been flushing out great performances one after the other. With that body and handsomeness I can only imagine girls of all ages drooling over him! :)
The movie is fun, thrilling, full of surprises and humorous. And ya, its in 3D. I have said this for all 3D movies released in India and I will say it again, we have still not come of age to give a perfect 3D viewing comfort. Yes, the glasses are not great, viewing gets dull and most of times I get a slight headache, just a little. But then am speaking only about myself.
Captain America gets your pulse racing from the very first action sequence and it never stops. With 2 hours and 15 minutes to spend on a single super hero, the plot needs to be engaging, I thought it was. I give it a thumps up and suggest you go watch it in a movie hall now. Find a place which is running it in 2D instead, if you are in India. I would have preferred it. Nevertheless, go watch it.
Ankhon Dekhi (2013)
Starts off well but drags later on.
Frankly, I was expecting Bheja Fry kinda fun. I know, wrong expectation. But then, I saw the movie only when I heard a lot about it - as a must watch. It was fun till the 1st half, then it felt a little too long to to be hooked on to. Anyways, here's the crux...
Bauji (Sanjay Mishra) is an old man living in a joint family in a small house with his brothers family. His daughter is seeing a boy and the family finds this out one day. That day they lock her up in a room and the go to this boy's place to beat him up! Later they do realize that the boy indeed is a decent person, but in the process Bauji makes a crude decision that he will not believe in anything that he has himself not seen or heard!
That pretext calls for some good fun. He gets laughed at, demeaned and even ignored for his theory and logic. He also quits his job at the travel agency citing the reason that the ticket booking orders that he was talking was not right as he would not like to book tickets for places where he himself has not gone. Saurabh Shukla can be seen here for a guest role as Bauji's boss.
Another good scene is when Bauji tries to argue with his brother's son's maths teacher. Discussion on parallel lines meeting at infinity is cute and funny. This teacher later becomes Bauji's follower, among many who later accompany him in all his endeavors!
Bauji takes more extreme steps and even stops talking. The Satya Ki Khooj madness goes to an all new level, altogether.
There are any other incidents that happen later on and the plot gets confusing for me. Down the line it gets dragged and i started longing for the movie to end. I have written this for many other movies too and I wish movies were shorter in duration so that even a good movie is not tagged a star less coz of its length.
Having said that I would also like to tell you that i did not like the ending. But I would sure recommend it as a good one time watch.
Queen (2013)
Go Girl Go. Jai Mata Di.
From the day I saw the trailer (in December 2013), I wanted to watch this movie. The line that attracted me was "Main apne honeymoon pe akele aai hoon", well I smelled liberation and loved it! :)
Queen is a story of Rani (Kangana Ranaut) who gets rejected by her would be groom, and a long time lover, days before the marriage. Completely shattering her dreams. Since she had saved money for ages to fund her honeymoon in a foreign land, she got a super idea to go for it anyways! Even when she had no husband to go with, she goes to Paris and Amsterdam. Am glad she did! :)
You might think twice before going to a movie where Kangana is in the lead role, given her past record she is still struggling to prove herself as an awesome actor. After "Gansgster" and "Fashion" I had started thinking she could do justice only to drunk characters. "Tanu weds Manu" was the first step in changing that opinion. But with Queen, Kangana hits the bull's-eye. Her kindness, innocence, boldness and beauty will enthrall you. In that order.
Queen is fun ride all through out. Rani's friend Vijaylakshmi is like the best friend every girl should have. Her 3 other male friends cannot get any cute-er than that. Be it crossing the road, running away from Eiffel Tower, saving her purse from a thief, trying to make an Italian dish convert Indian, cuteness unlimited.
But the monologue when she gets drunk, takes the cake. Gold Medal.
But Kangana is not the only one which makes this movie worth watching. Her friends Vijaylakshmi, Alexandra (Sikandar), Taka and Tim deserve a round of applause too.
With a length of around two and half hours I never felt any drag, I was always excited to know what will Rani do next!
Another winner in the movie is its music. Amit Trivedi's finest till now, I believe. "Harjayiyan" is my favourite. "Jugni" and "O Gujariya" is good as well. The "hungama ho gaya" song in a club is an icing on the cake.
Not to forget the old time lover Vijay is played by Rajkummar Rao. You will remember him from Kai Po Che. For his last movie he also got the Critics Award - Shahid. What Rani does to Vijay in the end is commendable. So much so that the whole theatre started clapping! Watch it to find out. Credit goes to the story writer (and director) Vikas Behl.
DON'T miss Rani's facebook timeline when the credit rolls. Best timeline you will ever see. Much better than mine! :)
For me, queen gets into the must watch list. Yours?
BONUS: Watch Kangana in conversation with renowned film critic Anupama Chopra on her show - The Front Row. This interview went viral for her humble and down to earth replies. If you already don't, you will love her after watching this interview.
Shaadi Ke Side Effects (2014)
Go watch 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects', instead!
This movie is boring from the word go. Saket Chaudhary directed the evergreen Pyaar Ke Side Effects (PKSE) and after 8 years directed this one. Complete crap and a bore. No offence, I have watched PKSE 20 times (or may be more) and am willing to watch it any number of times when it comes on TV. Yes. But this one was a total waste.
Not sure where to start, since nothing was good. Last I saw Farhan Akhtar in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. I need not say anything else, wonder why he singed up for this movie. Average performance for an average plot. Vidya Balan has just bloated up like anything. From the very first scene till the end she always looked like an Aunty. All the dresses she wore made sure she did justice to the word Aunty. Her last movie Ghanchakkar was not that great but much better than this one. Even though Ram Kapoor reminds me of a TV serial only, he was good in his role. Vir Das has a short role and he did good too.
I guess the plot was not that great and unlike PKSE, SKSE did not have that much juice to make you laugh and cringe across evenly. Even though the first half of actually tolerable, the second half dragged like hell. The story took uneven turns and a major revelation at the climax was just too much. With a run time of 2 hours and 25 minutes, this movie was a torture. I suggest you watch it in passing when it appears on TV.
And then the songs of this movie! Totally forgettable, uninteresting and boring to the core. All of them. So much so that every time a song started I wished I could fast forward to get to the end. Except the last song during the credit rolls which was OK. I still don't remember the song but it was peppy. And ya, you also get to see few behind the scenes in the end. That was more interesting than the entire film.
With few laugh and just a few interesting moments in the entire movie, this was a complete waste of my time. To recover from the boredom am watching Pyaar Ke Side effects again. Bye.
