Intense and spectacularly acted
20 August 2019
People who call this movie boring should go back to their Transformers movies. It's not boring for a single second. The story has a quiet intensity, the acting is out of this world, and Affleck's direction is so good that I can't wait for his next directing job. Haters gonna hate, but they are so wrong it's actually funny.

Beautiful and unforgettable

Gus van Sant's best film, part one of his death trilogy. Stunning cinematography, beautiful music (Arvo Pärt), a brilliant Casey Affleck (Matt Damon good). I loved the film.

Not a sad film...
29 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
It's some kind of buddy movie, but not as "Hangover" did it. Not at all. It's about true friendship and the joy of life. You might cry at the end... I did not. It's not a sad movie, it's a true movie. Love is a big theme here, and the landscape plays a big part, too.

Cumberbatch is overwhelmingly brilliant and heartbreaking as James, who's ill with cancer and goes on a trip with his three best friends to live life to the fullest one last time. Cumberbatch is fragile and strong, tearing up and laughing out loud within seconds, embracing life and annoying his friends with worldly wisdoms. He's not an entirely likable character and therefore the more likable. Tom Burke, Adam Robertson and JJ Field also do an excellent job, but it's Cumberbatch who is the most mesmerizing thing on-screen.

When the film ends, you feel exhausted but not sad. And you want to meet your friends and tell them that you love them.

Not great, but...
30 January 2011
This is not a great film - but a great looking film. Great sceneries, great wardrobes. Johnny Depp fits for his role perfectly. He is convincing as the famous gangster boss but not as great as Christian Bale as his hunter. Some have called his performance "wooden" which only shows that he's misunderstood as an actor completely by some people. He's not wooden at all, he draws a great portrait of an obsessed man who does not allow himself to much emotions. That he looks breathtakingly smooth in his suits does not hurt either. Marion Cotillard is also great. This film is no great piece of art, but it's easy to watch and has great acting in it.
