Meherjaan (2011)
Needs a Neutral Lens to be Understood
For the generation that was born after 1971- there is a critical need to look back at history in order to define their national identity and it should be done with a neutral lens to get the "real picture". The same can be said for "Meherjaan". It should be viewed through an unbiased lens by the audience in order for them to see the peaceful and hopeful message that the film tries to establish in the face of utter horror of the war. The image of the little white flower blooming in the dirt is the perfect metaphor for the film. It speaks in favor of non-violence and shows that true resolution can only be achieved when love is accepted as the highest form of truth. In today's world where violence is generally accepted as the best form of human expression- it is no wonder that this film is being pushed to the corner and belittled. Misinterpretation is to be expected when a truly new perspective is presented and this can only be helped if the audience can watch the film with an unprejudiced lens.
