Grey's Anatomy: Living in a House Divided (2022)
Show/Character History anyone?
This is a very good episode, many things are falling into place but I am seeing a future with Station 19 and no Grey's on my Thursdays. (unless Addison returns) After all these years, I prefer the writers keep plot/character consistent I have too much time on my hands I guess, plus I'm an advocate for the dying. So Owen offering 'mercy killing' his brothers-in-arms? No. I refer everyone to episode 18, Season 6, 'Suicide is Painless' when Teddy goes to Owen to sign off for her planned Physician Assisted Suicide, a procedure that was legal in Washington State in 2011 when the episode aired (the related law was passed in 2008). In that episode, the ask triggered Owen's PTSD to the point he dissociated. Now Owen's gone beyond believing in assisted suicide by offering his soldier buddies a lethal dose of medication to the group of soldiers dying from their lung injuries from the burn pits in the war. Yup, Owen breaking the Hippocratic Oath and the Law - I just don't see it... plus it sent Hayes back to Ireland.
Grey's Anatomy: In My Life (2021)
Amelia, you may push people to talk and feel but here it was perfect
Teddy centric and the early acts are awkward , perhaps unnecessary (along with some fantasy Owen/Teddy dinnertable conversations) - ergo the honest 8/10 - but the later acts make up for it. Teddy has not been a sympathetic character the last two seasons and such sage advice as Richard's 'stop blowing up your life!' has shown how she appears to her coworkers. Except DeLuca - she (a CT and Trauma surgeon) was helping him run the COVID ICU - and then he died on her table. DIC isn't a surgeon's fault, not anyone's fault, tough to catch and reverse in time, doesn't happen that often but I digress. As she goes down the rabbit hole, she goes back through her memories to the thing that truly broke her - and so many of us one way or another almost 20 years ago - 9/11. Her lover/friend/love of her life Allison was killed in the WTC which set Teddy on her life path to where she met DeLuca - if she only stayed in bed with Allison longer ... Very Powerful Stuff
And Amelia? Can't put it into the right words. She tells Owen he doesn't have to reunite with Teddy but he has to get over himself and forgive her.
At least I found her McAmazing here.
Grey's Anatomy: Life on Mars? (2020)
A series of vignettes rather than an hour of drama
Mars is a busy place because 'Life on Mars' is more a series of vignettes than a true cohesive hour of drama. Questions are answered while ethics and morals are tested. I don't think that this episode is considered a crossover event with Station 19, but viewing the 3/12/20 episode of Station 19 'Born to Run' not only has an awesome title but does add to 'Life on Mars' and was good while featuring Bailey and Amelia.
Amongst the ongoing plots covered within the ~45 minutes are Jo's life after Alex; Maggie's information and therefore Teddy's preemptive strike that Owen could be Amelia's baby's father; Deluca's hospital-mandated therapy for his mania-bordering-on-aggression; this is in addition to the teased material: the wealthy inventor, Meredith's diabetic who rations her insulin, and the reveal of Amelia's unborn son's paternity.Jackson and Vic hit a snag and there is a story about a man injured on train tracks while kissing his girlfriend - as an aside, she somehow is a Rhode Scholar.
Deluca in therapy could become interesting but I would have preferred Dr Wyatt or Dr Carr, an established show character on the show, rather than a new therapist... or more than 30 seconds of screen time but this could be/should be ongoing. His aberrant behavior is shown later (and perhaps the show will also continue to highlight that manics and alcohol do not mix).
Meredith's patient, an insulin dependent diabetic comes in severely injured after a fall due to low blood sugar. In true GA form, this addresses the egregious pricing on insulin which is up to $500/month today
Koracick is tested both by Teddy and also by the inventor who needs a medical excuse for a failed rocket which exploded over Seattle and will go to great lengths to get what he wants.
And yes, finally, Amelia's son's paternity is revealed, and Link's good guy and boyfriend status returns.
I think it is worth a watch.
* (Insulin prices are up to $500/month today - double from 2012, and it was only $21 in the mid 1990's which today would be only $34.00. yes, I'm a practitioner of the healing arts - Incidentally WA state legislators are looking at a bill to cap out of pocket insulin costs at $100/month to prevent such outcomes).
