Isle of Dogs (2018)
8/10
Unique Visuals, Eccentric Character Designs and Stellar Voice cast.
22 December 2018
The second stop-motion animation picture by Wes Anderson is visually unique, breaks cultural barriers and pays homage to Japanese Cinema.

The story is set in Future Japan, where the Powerful Kobayashi Family orchestrates the quarantining of all dogs to a Trash Island. The plot gains momentum with the introduction of a Young Kobayashi Rebel, who crashes on the island in search of his pet. He is assisted by five Island dogs in his journey, that eventually shapes the narration of this movie.

This movie is headlined by a stellar voice cast. Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston, Harvey Keitel and Frances McFormand to name a Few.

Anderson takes a risky approach by not providing any subtitles when the characters are speaking in Japanese, but it pays off brilliantly as the themes and ideas are easily communicated to the audience, which consequently gives the movie a truly global appeal.

The underlying themes of Dystopia, Authoritarianism, Tyranny, Segregation and Prejudice with a Quirky Wes Anderson Touch further establishes this as another Classic.

Recommended for Lovers of Independent Animated Movies.

Mockumentary or Commentary

This show is nothing short of a masterpiece. It starts as a hilarious High School/True Crime satire and later transforms into a deep meditation on American pop culture.

It alludes to Reality TV, Social Media, Mainstream media, Documentary Filmmaking, Teenage woes, Celebrity status, Authoritarianism, Justice System and how the tag of High School Stereotypes remains attached and continues to define someone's life.

What is Self-Independence ?
16 June 2018
Coming of Age Story of a Young Witch who must spend a customary one year away from her parents.

She arrives in a modern big city which is unlike her traditional home town in every way possible. She initially receives cold responses from the city's residents but is later embraced by a kind Pregnant Lady who owns a Bakery.

Kiki begins to live and starts a delivery business from the Bakery's attic. The people, adverisities and self-doubts that she faces in her Journey to becoming a self-independent individual, shape the movie's narrative.

As Expected of Maestro Miyazaki the details in the animation are intricate and visually soothing. Even in a Children's Film he leaves us with some unanswered questions, that requires the viewer to come up with their own interpretations. Another Highly Recommended Miyazaki Classic.

A Separation (2011)
10/10
Story about ordinary people yet so universal in its appeal.
15 March 2012
I believe the greatness of this movie lies in it's universality. Farhadi's masterful storytelling breaks all geographical and cultural barriers and allows us access to this world of pride, family values and religion finally leading to communication breakdown.

The Story begins in a very innocuous manner and then catches the unsuspecting audience by surprise. One feature of this movie that makes it special is it approaches this intensely charged drama as a thriller. As we go deeper in the narrative the face of truth is peeled layer by layer and allows the viewer to be a part of all the events occurring on the screen. Performances are so good that I can assure you that you can mirror each character with people You know. Farhadi seems to have complete authority over this masterpiece.

i don't want to reveal any plot details. All I want to say is If you like serious movies dealing with real people and you like 'Character Study'in movies then your wait is over. This is It. The one.

If you like 'A Separation' then 'About Elly' is definitely recommended.

At the end i would like to quote some lines from 'Schism' By 'Tool'.

"Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers, between supposed brothers."
