This Is Us: The Guitar Man (2022)
Sorry, hated this ep
I don't understand. Kevin is a jerk, always has been always will be and the writing is not making him redeemable nor sympathetic. He's selfish and full of himself. They still haven't repaired or had him fully grasp or understand Randall and the argument and comments he made about him. They rushed that and swept that under the rug. He thinks he's so important, doesn't understand being an addict (but he is one so that's confusing) or having ptsd (after the WHOLE thing with Nicky!) really? This episode was a mess, Cassidy isn't integral and this sounds awful but I just don't care about her (she doesn't fit into the show!), Nicky all of a sudden is healed and in a relationship and both could just move their lives to help poor Kevin be the amazing son he is, eyeroll. I'm bored of the filler episodes that don't do anything or say anything and the lazy writing especially because the episode with Jack's mother was so stellar. Are they running out of ideas? I guess I'm glad it's almost over. Sigh.
This Is Us: Don't Let Me Keep You (2022)
Amazing writing
This show is always great and the writers are usually always excellent but I am impressed and in awe of the amazing writing around PTSD. As a social worker, I pick up on how stories are written around depression, anxiety, ptsd, domestic violence etc and unfortunately it's usually a letdown with cliches or unrealistic endings etc. They did a superb job in writing both Jack's and his mom's symptoms and it was realistic in how it changes you, even if it's been 20 or more years. They both have ptsd from their experiences but how they both processed, or didn't, are very normal and it was acted and written so well. I was very happy to see! It was an emotional episode of course but when aren't they?! Very well done.
Chicago P.D.: Due Process (2021)
Sigh
We're supposed to now feel sorry for cops for who can't kick the crap out of perps?
Come on. The writing is so lazy and is playing into the antiquated Voight where he has all the power and can do whatever he wants to get a confession. I won't feel sorry for the cop that made a horrible choice while doing her job, which happens to be difficult (newsflash many jobs are working with difficult situations where people get hurt) because she couldn't handle herself. These episodes are getting to be about the same thing. Let's be creative and start writing good and interesting stories where the cops do their jobs appropriately. Used to love the show but it's all the same lately.
Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021)
Missed opportunity
I love Elliot, he was a complex and emotional character and besides the police brutality from decades ago, was a great character. I think they missed the opportunity to really bring this awareness back to policing and investigating. He could have come back to NY for many reasons and one of them could have been his atonement for the damage he had done to many lives years ago. Instead he's the same angry and impulsive cop he's always been. Been there done that. His wife dying and the whole reason for the show now is to get the guy who killed her. It's just not creative. They didn't do very much brainstorming on how they were going to bring him back so I'm disappointed. They didn't need to completely change the man, sometimes we don't change, but after 20 years they didn't even try and I think it's lazy that they didn't try.
This Is Us: A Long Road Home (2021)
Writing for Madison
The writing for Madison is so predictable and frustrating. It's the typical story of a woman who tells a man don't worry about me and the babies you go work in the career you've been working so hard in, I'll just be over here and won't ask you for a thing. Then gets upset he needs to leave for said job and doesn't stay with her. Sigh. It's old. What did she expect? For him to forget about his career and stay home? I guess that can rightfully be what she wants and expects but it makes no sense because that's not who he is and this shouldn't surprise her. Why didn't they talk about this when she got pregnant and they decided to raise the babies together? Another story to make Kevin look like the bad guy (he STILL needs to apologize and make amends about the comments to Randall, he doesn't get a pass for those but I digress) Kevin is not all bad and they seem to be making him out that way.
This Is Us: Forty: Part One (2020)
Great episode
Although I have my problems with Kevin getting someone pregnant after a one night stand and then proposing to her, which isn't his character at all I don't see how they can redeem him after his comments to Randall. But, I digress. I just cannot believe there are so many of you STILL saying blm and COVID are political issues. Where have you been for 8 months? How are you still yelling that these are political issues? I just don't get it. They never discussed politicians, they never mentioned the election, to those of you who are ignorant to the ideas of race and class and justice you haven't been watching the same this is us. Jack and Rebecca's father? The disrespect that he was a veteran, the elitism that he showed jack telling him to stay away? Jacks dad with abuse, substance use and Jacks brother, a veteran with mental health issues, the stories about little Randall and the race issues at the pool and school etc. I guess you're ok with that but COVID and police brutality are off the table? Huh? Just makes you look ignorant and that you're the problem blaming a tv show, as you usually do on being liberal when they literally NEVER mention politics you make it about you.
Sweet Magnolias: Pour It Out (2020)
Not sure
Am I supposed to like Bill, the jerk ex who wants to "do the right thing" by kicking out his existing wife and three kids to buy his new wife he knocked up through an affair? And am I supposed to feel sorry for the woman he cheated with and impregnated? So far the characters are frustrating and I'm not sure I'll continue with the series. The three main women are great, I enjoyed their relationship, but that's the only thing going for it, which may not be enough for me. I was hoping for something more light hearted and fun. This does not fit that bill for me unfortunately.
Outlander: All Debts Paid (2017)
Claire was awful to Frank
She chose to stay with Frank and he was desperate for a child. She spent so much time thinking about Frank while she was with Jaime on their wedding night, worrying about cheating then all of a sudden she's pregnant and treating Frank like crap. I get her hesitation but Frank gave her everything and she was truly mean and cruel. She wouldn't even let him touch her arm? Like what? They were married first and she was devastated when she "lost" him the first time. Was it more that he looked like Jack and she couldn't get over that? Then they should have delved into ptsd a little or have her talk to him about that. I didn't like this episode. Claire was just so selfish and made me like her less.
The Bold Type: 5, 6, 7, 8 (2020)
Good episode but
Love this show and this ep was good but disappointed they turned Ryan into a jerk. I love Ryan and Jane and they just ruined the their whole storyline for the past 4 seasons. PS The lie about her brother was definitely not on Ryan, it was Evans fault imo. Should have never been put on Ryan and Jane blaming him was ridiculous. I suppose they were building it up to him being a liar, sigh...
