Fall (I) (2022)
7/10
Predictable, flawed script but VERY tense
3 September 2022
The kind of vibe I get from this director (I could be completely wrong) is that he is one of the well connected Hollywood types who uses his connections to get aging stars in stylistically flashy, but bad movies. This movie is a step in the right direction for him. There is a lot of cheesy dialogue and the plot devices are extremely obvious. Everything that is going to come up again later on in the movie you can see coming a mile away ***BUT*** the movie is visually very solid and it certainly creates a ton of anxiety. I think a lot of it is the very real fear many of us have of extreme heights like that, but regardless this movie graduates beyond being a Michael Bay knock off to a movie that has a relatively unique premise and actually makes you feel strong anxiety and fear. Solid work.

Truly awful

Dear Hollywood, never let this writer/director near a studio again. Generic, nonsensical, bad dialogue, dumb premise. Made me disinterested in Dinosaurs forever.

The Terminal List (2022– )

Promising start, predictable finish
6 July 2022
I was really intrigued after the first episode as I thought we had the potential for an unreliable narrator. What transpires over the rest of the season was the same old story in the mold of most Tom Clancy-esque novel to movie adaptations. Innocent man plays fugitive killing everyone along the way to clear his name, uncover a conspiracy and bring vengeance to his family's killers. Even the attempt at a twist was predictable and lazy. Bummer. Will definitely appeal to the feaux-alpha-male-America loving crowd. Still watchable. Could've been a lot cooler had they used his loss of memory to make him an actual unreliable narrator who makes mistakes do to his loss of grip on reality. Instead he basically just has a bad headache the whole time.

You may need some Laffodil to enjoy this
19 June 2022
Chris Hemsworth is woefully miscast as a mad scientist type with daddy issues. Teller tries his absolute best to salvage any acting opportunities out of an elongated black mirror episode that takes a potentially interesting concept and does nothing with it. Paint by numbers script. Watchable but certainly nothing special.

"Fun" synopsis, lazy third act/ending
17 April 2022
One thing that really stood out for me about this movie was waiting until 30 minutes in to reveal the title. It was perfect timing as the film shift tonally. First time I've seen something like that and I thought it was a genius creative choice that was perfect. The acting is honestly really good for the genre. The concept is a horror but the movie does not feel like a horror movie. Ultimately it suffers from a lack of ideas after we get through the main bulk of the premise. The ending is rushed and extremely generic. Could've been great with a little more creativity throughout.

Judd Apatow peaked when he said Will Smith could've killed Chris Rock with that slap. This movie marks Apatows rapid decent into not knowing what is funny anymore.

DC is starting to find its film universe lane
13 January 2022
DC is finding its lane as the anti, non family friendly, comedically dark (or just dark dark) alternative to Marvel and I'm here for it. Gunn continues on his raunchy, goofy take on super heroes and while I guarantee it won't be everyone's cup of tea I believe it will be a smart move in the long run to go full on with the dark, more adult adaption of comics to contrast with Marvels increasingly Disneyfied approach.

The Book of Boba Fett (2021–2022)

Jon Favreau is bored
13 January 2022
Jon Favreau needs to add some spiciness in the bedroom with his relationship with Disney. It's run it's course. Not sure how much of this script was outsourced but it feels as though Favreau gave a staff writer a paint-by-numbers approach to the task of creating this show. Most Star Wars lovers won't see past the veneer. Hardcore Star Wars fanboys will hate it because they hate everything that's not the original 3. The truth is in the middle and that truth is that it is a wildly mediocre show through 4 episodes. There was a lot of promise because the character hadn't been deeply fleshed out. I understand why they chose the actor they did (because boba is supposed to be a clone so while he played the father in the older show he could play boba in this) but that actor has zero talent and can't move. He resembles a 70 year old Schwarzenegger lumbering around in an ill conceived 2010's cash grab action movie. Star Wars deserves better, it's fans deserve better. Come up with some original ideas for the love of god.

Funnier than expected
2 January 2022
I didn't care that it put its penis in my vagina as long as it also put its penis in my heart.

Haven't seen the movie. May have seen the SNL skit a couple times. Does a great job recapping the show in the beginning for viewers like me. It's incredibly stupid but in a good way and there are some big, big laughs. Worth checking out if you enjoy dumb humor like anchorman, bridesmaids, dumb and dumber, etc.

A movie begging for a twist that never comes
21 December 2021
A straightforward love story disguised within a sci-fi overlay that keeps you wondering if a switcheroo is coming but it never happens. Marhershala is great as he always is. A few very well acted, strongly emotional scenes although I didn't feel the chemistry between the two main actors. Last scene was very emotional and well done. A solid movie that could've been great with a little more misdirection.

A memory I'd never want to relive
23 August 2021
Is it bad acting? There's a good amount of that from the 2D ancillary characters. Is it bad script? What are the chances people in the distant future talk in film noir 1920's cadences. Bad direction? It's most likely a combination of all three. The premise is at best mildly intriguing - the noir moodiness is poorly executed. At times it feels at its best it's a video game plot. Thandie Newtons characters intentions don't make sense-or at least she doesn't have enough of a back story to warrant it. There's a lot of problems and not enough good moments to even it out. One thing I did enjoy was the world created. I better constructed water world of sorts.

The White Lotus (2021–2025)

Drags you along with some very funny moments to an ultimately unsatisfactory ending
19 August 2021
A little bit of a disappointment for me because this show has a lot of great qualities. There is some great writing and great themes. The biggest theme seems to be how white people think they get it but they really don't and can't see passed the perspective their privilege alots them. The humor is very refreshing. It's very satirical, a little dark and springs up in moments you don't expect. Ultimately, however the show is very meh. Not a lot truly happens, most things you really see coming. It does a good job building tension waiting for the big payoff, but unfortunately that big payoff never comes which is why I think it's an above average show at best.

Takes about 4 episodes to get going but well worth the wait
19 July 2021
A truly original concept that probably won't get the love it deserves because it's hard to get into with the purposely bad sitcom aspect. I actually think one of the rare misses is not making the sitcom portion a bit funnier. I think with that in tow it could hook a lot more people in. Regardless, once the plot gets going it's like nothing else on TV. Definitely worth your time.

Sons of Anarchy on a Ranch
5 July 2021
Solid show so far, I'm almost to the end of Season 1. The show has a ton of similarities to Sons of Anarchy right down to its flaws which is that there are an excess of plot lines to the point of some of the events being a bit ridiculous. Regardless, if you enjoyed SOA you will most definitely enjoy this show.

The shark has been jumped
5 July 2021
I really liked this show, I still do mostly but over the last two episodes it really jumps the shark. Instead of focusing on the certain events following their consequences to their natural conclusion it just starts piling extreme event on extreme event to the point of ridiculousness. I'm going to keep watching but hopefully this isn't a sign of more to come.

Hard turn toward stupid
6 June 2021
Just like in the wild a Deer asks a Tiger not to eat his friend and the Tiger obliges. Show was very promising in the beginning but time and time again the characters do non sensical things. The show is full of errors like this and it devolves in to the worst kind of YA novel.

Action scenes were solid. I was hoping it didn't devolve into unrealistic melodrama with bad acting like all other CW DC stuff does. Hope is dead.

Cinematography: A Lead Actress: A- Nightmarish Dreamscapes: A Soundtrack: A- Store Brand Jared Leto & his band of misfit actors pulled off the street: F Introducing Carl Jung theories but failing to apply them in any meaningful way: A++ Character development: D-

A visually stunning movie that had most of the elements necessary to become a cult classic but falls short due to a bad supporting cast and weak 3rd act/unfulfilling ending. It really hangs on just outside the fringe of being a good film in my eyes.

If nothing it makes me excited to see films from this director again in hopes that he can put all the pieces together with some good actors and a meaningful script

Just because all the characters are evil doesn't make the movie deserving of a 1
22 February 2021
A lot of horrendous reviews on this movie. I understand that the characters all suck, but they don't suck as in bad acting, they suck as in they're all vile, disgusting humans. Rosamund Pike makes an excellent conniving, manipulative villain and I can see how it disappoints when she becomes "the good guy" in a sense. It doesn't take away from the fact that there is good acting and direction here. The movie is still very flawed, there are some leaps of logic and suspension of belief to be had. The end is a little rushed and ham handed. I will probably never watch it again, but it's not a poorly done movie, it's just not excellent by any stretch.

A Truely Rare Feat of Entertainment
15 January 2021
One of the few shows where each season is better than the prior. It really evolves in to this kooky, imaginative, wonderful piece of art with great acting, perfectly placed well thought out back story and sneaky humor. A honest-to-god great show. Through the first two seasons I was trying to figure it all out and everything really starts to fall into place in the beginning of season 3. A new imaginative way to look at the complexity of belief.

One of the worst scripts in recent memory
18 November 2020
I'm not entirely sure how this movie got made. I don't know how they got these actors to sign on. They must've been severely overpaid. The script is full and unfunny. The lowest common denominator humor imaginable. May have been written by AI. Sets back women's fighting a decade.

Cool concept, poorly executed.
9 November 2020
"Doe" plays out a little bit like an episode of Black Mirror. The concept is great(I won't spoil it) most everything else is not. The characters are 2D. The acting is often laughable due in part to a script with the emotional depth of most video game scripts. Doesn't quite make it to the "so bad it's good" territory. It's just a mildly interesting scenario with a very generic adaptation.

Be prepared
2 July 2020
Cool premise. Shot relatively well. Haven't finished full season and will reserve full judgement- just be prepared for very heinous, nonsensical dialogue. Sounds like one persons dialogue just broke up in between several parties within conversation. Children talking like adults with adult perspective. Lack of character development.
