O.J.: Made in America (2016)
A mountain tossed aside like a paper cup.
The documentary shows how beloved OJ was and also the interesting twist of his gay father and other things that grab you. One of the most powerful things that came across to me was the jury related material and shocking revelations of payback for Rodney King ...a psychotic angel dust using "motorist". Ito allowed the jury to be duped by all this inflammatory rhetoric from the defense and even toured Rockingham with the jury which was NOT the murder scene! Cochran had switched personal photo's on the wall and even included a portrait from his OWN house. That is clear tampering. The prosecution did NOTHING wrong it was ITO. No murder trial should EVER take more than a few days...PERIOD. It is up to the Judge to pare things down especially and I emphasize ESPECIALLY when there is a mountain of credible DNA and blood evidence and an ex-husband with a a domestic violence police file. OJ treated his wife and kids as possessions and is an evil, twisted, sick murdering psychopath and was acquitted because the jury was too lazy to read and understand the jury instructions and comprehend their sworn duty and simply too ignorant to understand the legal concept of reasonable doubt when applied to a domestic violence murder. A disgusting reminder of how far we have NOT come!
Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
many layers that some may miss
An interesting film but yes, kind of depressing. I found myself wanting more twists and/or an ending that reconciled at least some of the main character's journey. After reflection, it seems to me that Mr. Davis was caught in the Santeria spell perhaps. After bitching about folk music, a famous 60's folk hero showed him the way and he completely missed it, showing that maybe if he listened more instead of speaking...except that time was not necessarily linear...so many layers it is definitely very Coen brothers. I was disappointed at first but now see the complexity of the human condition they were trying to get across. Music is as complex as the human condition. What truly lasts are the songs that touch us deeply in our soul ...not just the flavor of the month. yet ....a catchy tune can last forever...so complicated.
The Buddha (2010)
Simple, with powerful moments.
Just as the core of Buddhism is centered on very simple principals, this documentary attempts to convey the life of the founder of this mindset, way of life;(religion)in an unobtrusive way, much as the man himself may have wanted it portrayed, I should think.
The story is portrayed simply as a fable, but since it is about a real man with real ideas that have helped billions, it is treated with dignity and restraint because of the sensitive nature of modern society when it comes to the nature of our existence, and personal religious beliefs.
The glowing faces and tone of the monks and HHS Dalai Lama are vivid reminders of a simple monk with a simple recipe for a higher existence on this earth that is still available for all.
