Bullet Train (2022)
I was expecting better but...
The underwhelming standard acting of Pitt, just getting some cash in the bag, and the overwhelming overblown overacting of everyone else (I guess because they were in a film with Pitt), was just all a bit too much for me to appreciate as a worthy film to engage in. Nice comic moments, some fun actoring from the lesser roles, good continuity, pleasing lighting/grading, decent CGI, of course, all from behind the scenes people trying their best.. but... it just doesn't mould into something memorable in the end. You'll forget it within a couple of weeks. :(
It had potential, and if only there was a bit more effort from the oldies and a bit slower pace from the young'ns working on this, would definitely be a couple of star scores more.
Prey (2022)
Surprisingly good enough for Predator fans, methinks.
Quite on point for the Pred series, and some great aesthetics to the whole thing. Amazed Disney hadn't screwed this up too.
Very well done. Go watch!

Max Headroom (1985)
One of the absolute best of the time. Incredibly premature.
As some other good reviews have said.. this is absolute gold if you have an affinity to the 80s in any way, and if you have seen Max Headroom before. If you haven't seen Max but you still like the 80s future-hope-worry vibe, this is for you - 10/10.
If you are younger or not into this then please don't rate it badly.. You have no idea what kind of historical masterpiece this is and you will help bury it like so many others. This was a film before its time.. and it's only now coming out as hidden treasure.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Solid 8 or even 9/10 if it wasn't for Ms. Grandé
Couldn't give it more than a 7 because the parts with her were absolutely awful and clearly there was some cross-promo bs going on. Apart from that, superbly good romp of a film. Will satisfy pretty much all types of movie fans. No need for spoilers or definitions, just a good, funny, and thoughtful movie in the midst of the utter crap being released all around..
Chernobyl (2019)
Something isn't right here...
I have never done a 'review' here yet but after seeing HBO's advert on english television about how Chernobyl is the "highest rated tv show on imdb", I thought I'd take a look at some of the reviews here. I have seen the first 3 episodes of Chernobyl so far (because that's as many that have aired so far), and I am really enjoying it albeit the weird mixed British accents do put me off quite badly sometimes. I am, however, not going to rate it until I have seen the whole thing. Reading through the reviews here, you'd think the entire series is some god-sent best series in the entire history of the world, but I assure you it's not nearly as good as the likes of Sopranos or Breaking bad or even Game of Thrones.. I am quite tempted to start calling fake on a lot of these reviews because it just seems so bizarre that they would shout so much praise before the series has finished.. Also, it's only going to be 6 episodes long, so HBO calling it a "tv show" is a bit of a stretch in my opinion.
So, to those of you who are suspicious of the current rating of 9.7, you should be. It is most likely to be an almost entirely fabricated promotion with a ton of spin-doctored reviews and ratings. I'll give it a tentative 7/10 right now but let's not get too excited yet, eh?
