A.I. Rising (2018)
short story elongated unnecessarily
This a rough 90min movie which could have been showed up in roughly 40-45 min.
Nothing new material in the story. The depiction of the relation of a human with AI based conscious system(calling android here) has been the main theme of the movie.
Trapped (2016)
Can be compared with the great 'Cast Away' in an urban plot
Assuming you to know the plot (a young man accidentally locked in a semi-furnished 35th floor flat in a vacant multi-storied apartment in Mumbai, India without any communication, water, food, electricity. After surviving several days over there he managed to escape) it is a movie of non-main stream. Such movies are unique in nature for Bollywood. And even if you know the full story, you still enjoy the thrill of watching it.
While watching it, the movie can remind you of the great surviving story shown in 'Cast Away'. Plot of 'Cast Away' was a deserted island whereas for 'Trapped' it is in the middle of a metro City. One point the director made in good way by making the movie background music free in most of the time - that let you fell the loneliness of the character. It shows how one gave away his ideology when his survival in under question. Some scene might be disturbing to soft hearten spectators (Like drinking urine, eating bird meat etc.) Rajkumar Rao as an actor reached to to a excel level in this movie. Most of the movie are dialog less - but his expression and acting tells us everything. The expression are so bold and prominent, that you can read every word behind it.
Baar Baar Dekho (2016)
Entertaining weekend movie - remember, its not a sci fi movie.
This mid budget Bollywood movie emphasis on an important aspect of life. Centre of the movie is a Indian male who is about to get married with his bright future of his career ahead. As usual like a bright mathematician he rotaries his career ahead of his personal life. And his coming marriage face a question mark. Now comes the tricky part - time travel. How? Don't ask - this is not a science fiction; so you can skip/ignore that part. Let's take for the cinematic reason, that the main character can (or rather compiled to) travel through time (without his own interest and intention though) to see the future and fix the past (rather future past). And when he did all of them, he brought back to present (don't ask by whom and how). Thus comes the happy ending.
The main message of the movie is - the happiness of life are hidden in the small things (like going to your child's soccer game, stand by with your partner at her first expedition) - so don't ignore them. If you take care of these small things, the big things will be taken care of. Putting my personal opinion on this aside, let's see how the movie is. Entertainment is there like a general Bollywood movie. Complete family movie. No major intimate scene to be embarrassed in front of parent/children. Music and background scores are also good (lets not forget the end track - the item song 'Kala Chashma' which is among the top 10 Hindi song viewed in YouTube). But overall, as per my opinion, you won't feel like to watch the movie 2nd time. Nice movie to relax with your partner/family.
Drishyam (2015)
Its not for entertainmemt only; not too serious too.
The first thing when came upon our mind on hearing the word bollywood movie is - Entertainment. But the first point here - there is no song in the movie. So you cannot even in your wildest dream expect this movie to be entertaining in a traditional way. Coming at the storyline, I am not going to repeat it as it is already there several times. There are situations when you cannot judge/or call a person to be criminal just because of what he did. Instead, even he is a criminal in the eye of the law, you would support him after knowing the full story. Just a philosophic thought here; are all the so called 'criminal' are really criminal - or you would support him and will not judge him as guilty if you know why he had made that action. The movie is unpredictable - at least to the general viewers. I have never met anyone who had climax that he had anticipated the climax before it happened. Being a general man, we usually keep distance from the unwanted problems. But what you would do if problems comes itself to your door? Would you surrender to it or fight against it. But there is another way. Heard a proverb where it said that aim to the storm in such a way that it works in favor of you. Evey character are so appropriate, that you can call them ideal as per the Indian tradition and society. Loving husband, caring elder brother, Protector of the family – you will find all of them in Vijay. In the end , you will leave the movie hall – but the movie will not let you leave alone. You will be surrounded by the movie even after couple of days.
Jodi Ekdin (2010)
Coverd up suspense with love in fast life-style
I saw a good Bengali movie after a long. I didn't expected much from the movie when I started, but I proved to be wrong after the finish & I'm happy for that. The directer/story writer have done a very good job. They have been very successful in respect of the uniqueness of the story and in maintaining the suspense till the last scene of the movie.
Though some of the films idea seemed to be taken from Prestige and The Final Destination series, but that never shortens the work of the director. Some of the dialogs are almost the translation From the movie prestige. The dreaming idea have been taken from the Final Destination movie. But unlike there, the length of the dream is long enough. And the destination is quite different.
Real life location choosing have been done very nicely within Kolkata (EM Bypass, Mukundapur, Bijan Setuetc). The music of the movie are also good.
Someone may not like the advertisements shown within the movie, but I think this could be granted for the financial reason looking at the Tollywood industry situation.
Will wait for the next work from this director.
