Lincoln (2012)
Slave movie
This movie was not about Lincoln. This was about slavery.
This is the typical highly acclaimed "Oh God, slavery was so sad" movie. It completely discredits Lincoln's achievements and gives a very peculiar image of that period of time.
If you want to watch a movie about Lincoln's life, this is not the movie for you. If you want to learn about the American Civil War, stay away from this. If you want to cry about how terrible slavery was, this is perfect. If you want a just review of the treatment of black people, this is not right.
Ultimately, prepare to be disappointed by a white-guilt for black-slaves movie. Unless you're a white person that feels guilty about what his distance ancestors did yourself, of course.
(Note: I might come across as racist now, I assure you I just don't care what skin color you have. Nor any other arbitrary property like age, ethnicity, etc. I just don't enjoy seeing these biased crymovies about inequality when there's still so much of it in the world. As if black people integrated into American society now. Whatever. Politics. Didn't like the movie. But: if you feel I should give you extra chances because of your skin color you're more racist than me.)
My Awkward Sexual Adventure (2012)
Subtle paradigm breaker!
This movie is a wolf in sheep's clothing. It presents itself as the stereotypical commercial comedy. All the characters are easily understandable stereotypes. It's main storyline is basically a total cliché.
So why is it different? It breaks every one of the cliché's it uses. It tells us the story of what happens when our stereotypes become real, actually live their lives. And its easiness about sex is refreshing too, it's not a pornographic movie at all. Sex is just an aspect of it. And yet, even though of the controversial content, if you don't think about it: it's just another boring commercial romance comedy.
(So: controversial perfectly hidden in a cliché feelgood. Remarkable really.) (Did I mention it's excellently produced. Seriously. Excellent production value!) (I wonder if I'd still think this positively about it if I watched it a second time. I guess some parts were pretty weak. But I practically wonder if it's intentional. Nice!)
