Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957)
Worst movie of all time? Not by a long shot.
There are plenty of really bad low budget movie directors out there. Ed Wood was far from the worst. Now, I'm not one of those people that give this movie a 10/10 because it's funny. That's just another way of saying it's bad, but entertaining.
I've seen plenty of really terrible almost zero budget horror films like the Violent S**t series. And yes, it's called Violent S**t. Granted, I don't think those movies got commercial releases, and if they did it was straight to video. But there do exist movies much worse than this one. Especially other Ed Wood movies that are worse. It has an entertainment value like no other.
There are movies made today like "Devil" and "2012" that have a big budget but no heart put into them. It might be just me, but when I watch this I can tell there was heart put into it. Little effort, and a very small budget, but still has heart. Does that alone make it good, not really. But with the aid of other things,it helps.
The story, though not well done, is creative. And even if you watch the movie with a serious mindset it isn't boring. If you look at the average Arnold Schwarzenegger movie it really isn't that great a film. The acting is mediocre, the story is usually unoriginal, and there are several other things wrong with it. But many people love them because they're still entertaining as all hell. And that's the case with this movie in a way
There are people that can't even sit through this whole movie because they think it's so bad. And I really think that's sad. If I can sit through a movie shot on Super 8 then you can sit through this. A lot movies that came out at the time of this movie were B movies with a high camp value and no effort that people didn't say two things about. Maybe they were more forgettable. And isn't that what really makes a movie bad; being forgettable? Being so boring that no one ever payed any attention to it. If this were the worst movie of all time people wouldn't still be talking about it. And there are plenty of Ed Wood films that people never talk about that are much worse than this one.
There really is a thin line between famous and infamous. People just don't realize it.
All I can say is, it's not really bad. If I were surfing channels and saw it was one I'd watch it. It's entertaining. It's a fun movie. And whether intentional or not it's funny at times. Need I really say more? Just my take on it...
12 oz. Mouse (2005)
Bad animation, terrible illustrations, over the top story that makes little to no sense, one hell of a ride.
I remember as a kid loving this show. I loved the action. I loved the comedy. I loved the story that was hard to follow. I even loved the awkward, stupid, somewhat boring parts like when The Eyeball is just making puns based around the word "eye".
This was a short running show, I think it only laster one or two seasons, not that it was cancelled, it just had a final episode and that was it. For the most part the show was an action, and a comedy, but put little emphasis on either. It was mostly just dialogue that sounded like the voice actors were high and, for me, usually either intrigued me about the story (which wasn't really there until half way through the series), or was genuinely funny. And despite just how boring it seemed I was never really bored. I guess it's kinda like being high on pot.
In the second half of the series there's a more emphasis on story and action, the story is hard to follow because you can't get it from what you see considering that the show was made up of shitty drawings. All the story is really presented in character dialogue, which, for the incredibly small budget the show had, was pretty good. It goes into more detail about Fitz's (the mouse) past and what the show's mobsters (a stick guy, a talking pink box with sunglasses, and the shark from sealab 2020) are planning to do to the city (which pretty much results in the intro sequence).
All I can really say is that if you can get with, or like the bad drawings, bad animation, character dialogue, strange comedy style, strange action sequences, hard to follow story, and sex shifting manwoman you should have a great time with the show. It's more or less meant for every episode to be watched (in order of course) which shouldn't be hard considering it's more like an episodic movie than a TV series (it's a short series).
I'd normally give it an 8, but I'm gonna go ahead and give it a 10 for nostalgia.
Jersey Shore (2009)
A documentary about a particular group of people I truly hate.
Jersey Shore....oh where to begin. I'll sum up the show from a first person perspective. I live a good 50 - 75 feet from the Jersey shore, and every summer we're treated to some vacationers from Pennsylvania, north Jersey, and New York. Our benefactors, if you will. For the most part, these people are considerably normal and don't cause any disruption or annoyance, but there are some people, mainly from the cities (or burros) of Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Newark, who are worse than the common fraternity brother, or fratboy, or, as for the females, worse than your typical jezebel, or slut. These people are usually in their early to mid 20's, their bodies covered in tattoos, skin spray tanned orange, men have nasty spiking hairs and steroid induced muscles, women are wearing very revealing clothing and they all act like meatheaded morons who only know beer, drugs, sex, and violence. Guidos, if you will. I often deal with these people up front, as I watch them destroy my town with their antics. A fair amount of the trash talking, and joking about what a "f**ked up" place it is comes from these people. So let me give you a short bio of the show, guidos come to New Jersey, trash the place, then get their own TV show, and then New Jersey gets joked about because of it, only because people don't bother to do the research to know that most of the cast isn't even from New Jersey! Does that sound fair? NO! I won't stand for this, the people who ruin my home town, and those surrounding, who pass out drunk in the streets, urinate in public, start fights, break stuff, They get their own show, on a famous network live MTV, and kids will watch this and think "hey that looks like fun, i should go to the jersey shore and do that!" In the end, the show is nothing more than a glorified documentary about the guidos who destroy my home state, who i have to deal with first hand. And it's been called "awesome"....It makes me sick to my stomach. It'll pass, but, no matter what, it will always be New Jersey that's the joke, the victim of the situation, and not the cause. Politicians from New Jersey forever damned to not be taken seriously by any others. And nonstop jokes about New Jersey from people who probably haven't even ever been to the state. Kids will look up to these people and think they're cool. Adults will find it entertaining and laugh at it when it's really quite sad, and to us, the citizens of New Jersey, the people who actually live there, will be forever enraging. And when people say they love the show, in the words of James Rolfe, "That brings my p!ss to a boil"...I hope you guidos are proud of yourselves.
