Horrible waste of time!
25 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was trying to figure out if this was a documentary on the skunk ape or someone needing a vehicle for their music. I finally just started fast forwarding through the landscapes with an entire song playing and nothing happening. The stories were...ok, clearly an armature film (I use the term film loosely), but you they could have done better than an ape costume from the Spirit store. I was actually wondering if they borrowed the ape costume from Trading Places, though that costume was more realistic. And I am not sure if I believe the missing girls piece at the end. I am hoping that was made up, but it was like they were copying the Blair Witch Project. I watch crap that the rest of my family will not, but this not only scrapped the bottom of the barrel, it dug a hole through the barrel. This is so, so very bad.

Ending was terrible
4 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was great...up until the end. Kaitlyn Dever was fantastic. You believed her, you felt her pain, you wanted her to win...wonderful performance. It was done well right up until the end. I wanted my time back. The end just ruined the whole movie. It's too bad. I gave it a three because of what a great job Kaitlyn Dever did. She deserved 10 stars for only speaking three words. The production team, cinematographers, costuming, casting, special effects...all did a great job. We just can't get past the way it ended. Too much unexplained and not enough resolution in the ending. Struggling to say more to hit the quota of characters for this review.

Not really a competition with a real champion
18 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Hacks were fun, host is good, but unless everyone is competing in like a traditional bracket situation, it is really luck of the draw where you ended up and how much money you can win. Someone that cooked on one episode possibly being crowned champion is not really what I want to watch. If they did 3 people competing, then three more, then three more and the winners of those competing against each other, repeat that two more times and have those three winners compete, then you have a competition. I also hate it when people are not judged on the same thing. I HATE shows that have this person cook Mexican and this person do Italian, and this person...German cuisine, you are not judging them fairly. You are not judging apples against apples, you are judging apples against plumbs and those against mangos...not the same, therefore you really cannot compare them. None of the people in the last couple of episodes actually had a chance at $100k.

A Pleasant Surprise
4 January 2006
We saw this movie when it was first released on the big screen. It just happen to start when we needed a movie to so we had no idea what to expect. What a pleasant surprise this film was. Daniel Day Lewis (in one of his earliest roles) stars with Gordon Warnecke in this unconventional love story. Warnecke plays young Omar, who is given the opprtunity to run his uncle's laundrette. He enlists the aid of his ex-lover, Johnny (played by Lewis) to get the business back on it's feet. The scene in the laundrette that includes Omar and Johnny in the foreground and Omar's uncle and his mistress in the background, is one of the most sensual celluloid scenes I ever scene.

If you are looking for something good and out of the ordinary, I would recommend this one.

One of the finest films every made
4 January 2006
This truly one of the finest ensemble cast films ever made. The story line is engrossing and the cast is at the top of their game. The cast includes indominatable Marie Dressler, Wallace Beery, John Barrymore, Lionel Barrymore, Jean Harlow, Edmund Lowe and Billie Burke to name a few. Dressler's first seen is with Lionel Barrymore and her screen presence is so strong, you forget for a moment that Barrymore is in the room. And, her scene with Jean Harlow will stay with you long after the movie is over. It is hilarious. The recognizable scene of Harlow lying on a chaise lounge is from this movie.

If you see this one, grab it. It is a classic.

I knew we were in trouble with this one
29 January 2005
The minute the forward started, I knew we were in for trouble! The premise is laughable at best. The story line was even worse, if that is possible.

The acting was stiff and the actors gave off a sense of inexperience. You expect more from the likes of Slater, Reid and Dorff. Lines were delivered as if from a robot. And I'm sorry, I like Reid but she was VERY unbelievable as an archaeologist. Slater and Dorff picked a lousy film to try and stage their comebacks.

The continuity was off through out the entire film. The creatures weren't bad, but they really weren't good either.

Bottom line, I want that ninety minutes of my life back. They can keep the money, but give me the time! What a waste.

They tried...
2 December 2003
The DVD box made this one seem really good, in spite of the lack of a "name" cast (with the exception of Lance Henriksen). It started out slow and never really picked it's speed up. The curves aren't enough to keep your interest and at times, you get the impression that some of the cast isn't interested either. A couple of things never quite get explained and the ending lacks.

Worth watching
2 December 2003
I have to admit that this did not turn out to be what I expected it to be. It was actually better. The script is well done and provides enough substance to make it worth watching. For the most part it is a believable story. The acting is not bad for the relatively unknown cast. If you are looking for something different, this is it.

Egads!

Take the Big Chill and blend it with the worst possible "the evil government made the baddie" movie and you've got this bomb. Even with a reasonable cast (Amy Jo Johnson, Zach Galligan, Amy Jo Johnson and Tuc Watkins) this one cannot climb out of the pit of B-movie turkeys.

Disappearance (2002 TV Movie)
Horrible!
8 February 2003
Warning: Spoilers
The box did not say this was a TV movie. Too bad, as that would have been a good clue. They took a good premise and started making a good movie. I'm not sure what happened, but they didn't end it well. The ending makes no sense what-so-ever. To sum it up in two words "it sucked". Avoid this one.

**************** POSSIBLE SPOILER ****************

The reason for the "disappearances" is never explained. They hint it's a creature or creatures, possibly mutations from a neutron bomb, but quite honestly, that doesn't figure in to part of the ending. They do try to have brush off an explanation by having the obligatory "crazy" character say "No one knows what's out there, but you saw what you saw." (he says more, but I don't want to spoil too much).

Believe Ed....
2 January 2003
we made the mistake of renting this film before checking here. Believe him. This is one of the worst films I have ever seen. It was slow, poorly acted, even more poorly directed and offered a most disappointing and confused ending. Avoid this one at all costs!
