Loved the book, loved the movie!
6 June 2004
I have read a lot of comments written by fans of the books who disliked the movie because it was not faithful to the most minute detail. I, for one, must say that I am a stickler for detail as well as a big fan of the books. I LOVED "THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN." The magical tone of the movie covered up any minor discontinuities between the book and the movie. The acting was fabulous, especially the three young leads, who have matured brilliantly since "CofS". Also amazing was David Thewlis as Professor Lupin. Lupin is one of my favorite characters in the series, and I was a little nervous as to how his character was going to be treated. But from the first scene on the train, my fears were blown away. The one disclaimer I must add is that if you have not read the book, you might get really confused as to what is going on, because many plot elements are left unexplained (this, however, is not a problem if you've read the book). 10 out of 10. A MUST SEE FOR ALL FANS OF THE BOOK

Timeless
2 May 2004
I must first admit that I am such a fan of Les Miz (words cannot even describe it) that if anyone says something even remotely negative about the show, I will be deeply offended. That being said...I must say that anyone who has a passion for Les Miserables (or the theater in general for that matter) should see this.

I was moved to tears several times throughout the one-hour long video, especially during the "One Day More" sequence from the Oslo production. "One Day More" is my absolute favorite from the show (and actually my favorite song, period), and I was moved to tears, despite the fact that it was in Swedish. In a musical as powerful as Les Miz, words are unnecessary, the message is still there, in all its force. It is impossible to convey if you haven't seen the musical in any form the passion that drives this magnificent show.

Nothing short of brilliance!
25 April 2004
I am a self-proclaimed musical theater fanatic (understatement, I assure you). Be that as it may, this video was the most brilliant musical revue I have ever seen (also an understatement!) If you have any passion for musical theater whatsoever, you MUST see this!

The theater has always been my joy, but I never thought I would see so many showstoppers by so many theater legends in a three-hour period. I mean, Julie Andrews, Bernadette Peters, Lea Salonga, Jonathan Pryce, Colm Wilkinson, Ellen Greene...the list goes on and on and on.

The amazingly prolific career of Cameron Mackintosh is portrayed without flaw...everything from Oliver to Cats to Carousel to Les Miserables. Les Miserables is my favorite musical, but I still love this more (if possible) than the Les Miz Tenth Anniversary Concert because it includes so much more from the brilliance of the stage.

My personal favorites were "The American Dream," performed perfectly sleazily by Jonathan Pryce; Lea Salonga in EVERYTHING, she is SO amazing; and "One Day More," (The song never gets old, I came <This> close to COMPLETELY losing it).

In short, a must-see for anyone with a passion

Laugh out loud...hilarious!!!
27 September 2003
I had just recently been introduced to the Marx Brothers just a few months ago when we rented "Duck Soup." We both enjoyed it very much so we decided to rent "A Night at the Opera." As much as I liked "Duck Soup," this film knocks it out of the water. I may be biased as I am a "theater person," but I think that some of the jokes in the movie are absolutely precious! My personal favorite is "Was that a High C or Vitamin D." Priceless. YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS CLASSIC COMEDY!!!

22 days 'till Oscar night!
1 March 2003
Only three weeks left until the most highly anticipated night in movies...THE OSCARS!

CHICAGO deserves hands down all 13 oscars it is nominated for. It is BY FAR the BEST MOVIE MUSICAL EVER!! and one of the best MOVIES, period.

This movie musical exceeds all others in its effective blending of musical and cinematic styles.

As a self-dubbed "Broadway Nerd," I was very much looking forward to the night I saw Chicago the first time. However, I was equally ready to be disappointed.

I was not disappointed to say the least. I was blown away by all the musical numbers (esp. Cell-Block Tango), and the choreography was amazing (classically Broadway but still fit for the screen).

A must see. If you claim to "hate musicals," go into theatre with an open mind and let yourself be swept off your feet.

A MUST SEE! THE BEST MOVIE EVER!
19 January 2003
Can you spell Oscar? I can, C-H-I-C-A-G-O! As a fan of Broadway often disappointed by poor adaptations of Broadway musicals (**Chorus Line**), to put it lightly, I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. On the contrary, I believe that Chicago is the best MOVIE, not just movie musical, EVER! The actors and actresses ( especially Catherine Zeta-Jones and Queen Latifah), are amazing, and the musical numbers (especially Cell Block Tango, When You're Good to Mama, Razzle Dazzle, and of course All That Jazz) have no equal! A must see for any movie watcher, especially lovers of the musical genre. It deserves more than a ten!

BEST MOVIE-MUSICAL EVER!!!
2 January 2003
As a fan of Chicago, and a very big fan of musicals in general, I was filled with anticipation when I heard Chicago was being adapted for the screen. I was worried that it would be ruined as many other musicals have been when made into a movie (like A Chorus Line). But, after seeing it, I could put it no other way, CHICAGO IS THE BEST MOVIE-MUSICAL EVER!! And one of the best movies, for that matter. It is very faithful to musical (what was cut in no way takes away from the movie), and it was extremely well cast. All the actors give amazing performances, especially Catherine Zeta-Jones whose energy fills the screen for all 107 minutes of the film. All the musical numbers are redone amazingly, especially Cell Block Tango. I give it 11 out of 10 (not a typo). It is impossible to describe the thrill I got from watching this movie. A MUST SEE!!!!
