Las últimas horas de Mario Biondo (2023)
Great journalism, stupid viewers
Seriously, I think people rated this docuseries as they would rate the family. They did not get the point of it at all. If you are looking for a true crime story about a murder masked as a suicide, that's not it.
The team behind thus documentary have done an excellent work presenting both sides, so that the viewer can draw their own conclusions. That's OG journalism, something we have forgotten.
Through the timeline of events, we can see how a grieving family get sucked in a never ending hole of denial that keeps them from facing that their son was a human being that had passions and struggles that he probably never wanted them to know. This keeps them alive and away from the pain, but also made them succeptable to predators seeking to get either publicity or just simply money.
It is so sad and infuriating to understand how much these people have hurt and harassed a woman who not only had to deal with the loss of her partner, but also to endure constant torment from this family and all the no lifers on the internet.
The documentary, in my opinion, is a great way (maybe the only) to show her side, whithout shutting the family out. Plainly being impartial, sticking to the facts. I wish Mario's family get out from their revenge vortex and find peace, so that Mario can too (and poor Raquel).
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
I found my self hooked!
Let me tell you something: it's been a long time since a series or a movie got me so hooked!
Everything seems so done before and so unmemorable the past years. OMITB is so refreshing! Interesting plot, humour, good pace, good acting and chemistry.
Is everything perfect? Of course not. Does it matter? Hell no! Everything works so well together, that you get swooped in without realizing.
Even Selena Gomez is better than I was expecting. You would think that it would be an issue for her to actually connect with Steve Martin and Martin Short, but they actually click!
The bottom line is that this is an upbeat, spunky murder mystery that doesn't weigh you down and keeps you wanting more.
Barbarian (2022)
More than a horror movie
I get that the people that are rating the movie low wanted to see another 'Saw' or 'The Ring' or something like that. This is more than that. The only thing that I had a hard time swallowing was the part where all 3 characters (especially Tess) went on to go in a dark corridor/stair/passage. But it's a movie, you accept it's done for the plot's sake.
Still, I was on edge most of the time. There is a part in the middle where you get introduced to the 3rd main character, which is very strategically placed, to slow your tension a bit.
But what made the movie different for me, was that you could see the different kinds of characters.
Keith, down to earth, kind and maybe a bit socially akward, who has his head tuned right. He is the kind of person that is not easy to survive, that's why he gets killed (even though we don't have that much info).
AJ, a bit arrogant, thinks he is someone (though obviously he's not so well known) and always puts his wants and needs on top. What happens in an emergency situation is that he has no survival skills and his true self shows. He has a realization at some point, aknowledging that he's done harm, declares that he wants to make this right and help Tess, but when he has the opportunity to help and make things right, he disregards everyone else and doesn't hesitate to sacrifice another person to survive. And that's why the movie kills him.
Tess is persistant, cautious, adaptive and always wants to go back and help, despite the impossible situation. That's the person the movie wants to survive.
From my point of view, this movie has more to offer than just some jump scares. Is it the best thriller/horror movie ever? No. Is it a good movie? Sure.
Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries (2019)
Meeeh
If you don't associate this to the original, you can say it's somewhat amusing. But apart from that there are many plot wholes and akward moments. The most annoying thing to me was the whole situation with the dirty cop, which they kept brushing off as though they could do nothing, when they clearly had many opportunities to deal with him. Anyway, an ok light series to watch I guess.
Ghost Wars (2017)
Less than mediocre...
I don'y know what the people rating this with over 6 have as a standard, but this thing is in no way good material. It starts as a supernatural thing and ends up with a sci fi explenation. However, neither the supernatural nor the sci fi part are good quality material. The sci fi in particular is so cringy... The actors try, but the scenario and the direction are 90's TV movie material, not to mention the special effects. It does pose some philosophical questions, but even those can be found in so many other, better made movies or series...
