The Hills Run Red (2009)
This was one of those movies that are so bad they're good...
...And I loved every second of it! What really annoys me is watching a really horrible B grade slasher flick and then wanting those hours of my life back. This was NOT one of those movies! It was funny, and horrifying and what a real slasher movie is supposed to be. It didn't focus on gore, but it actually molded together a structured story line and the violence and scares eased themselves into it. The acting was really impressive from a B list group of actors. I recommend this movie to people wanting a fun, gory sex horror that doesn't take itself too seriously like the ones that do and FLOP. Go and see this movie, you won't regret it.
Backwoods (2008)
Horrible
And no, not horrible for the violence/gore. This movie is just plain horrible because of the acting, directing, cinematography and far-fetched storyline. I strongly DON"T recommend this film to you because: 1: The story line is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! Since when has work been playing paintball in the woods?! 2: Furthering my point of ridiculousness, a cult in the woods run by crazy old women. HUH?? 3: The acting is really bad. So bad, it probably would have been better if Paris Hilton was in it. 4: It's predictable to a high level. 5: It doesn't even meet the standards of a B grade movie which it is trying to be.
So don't be fooled by the "Haylie Duff" on the cover because she is probably the only decent actor in the film but she is hardly in it. If you want to see a decent movie about the woods, see "Wrong Turn" which makes a lot more sense and provides a lot more scares than this disaster of a movie.
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Amazing film
This is an incredible, beautifully crafted film that is highly recommended. I have watched it probably five times now and every time it seems like I'm watching it for the first time. This film has a halloween themed horror genre to it that is very authentic and original because it is based in the late 1700s and there is no modern distractions in it so you an focus on the thrilling plot and keep and in depth look at the characters, especially the main character Ichabod Crane played by Johnny Depp who does a great job portraying an emotional wreck of a man who happens to be very likable at the same time. Christina Ricci suits the part perfectly of the very beautiful Katrina Van Tassel, the love interest of Johnny Depp's character. This is a great film that should be watched by anyone who likes slightly dark/horror themed where people's heads are cut off haha.
Dead Mary (2007)
Had a lot of potential
I expected this film to be a classic teen slasher flick which was what I actually wanted to see but there was just so much missing from it that didn't even meet the standards for that. The acting is very good, especially from Dominique Swain but the atmosphere of the movie is so depressing that there needs to be more action and less talking. I know that sounds typical but this film failed at making scares without blood and gore (like "When a stranger calls"). The script is very original and the setting of the lake is beautiful but all of this was taken for granted. This film could've been an awesome horror flick but its more of a thriller/drama genre because the first half is all talking. Also the film is based on "Bloody Mary" the game but the context really had nothing to do with it as we saw no ghost of Mary! This film isn't horrible, but don't expect any scares from it and do not be fooled by the DVD cover or the R rating. All in all an okay movie that could have been so much better.
