The Little Mermaid (1989)
best under the sea movie made
I loved this movie because the songs were catchy and fun, the animation was cute and funny, the voice talents were a good choice and the characters were very good as well. I had this movie on video for a long period then i heard that it was coming on DVD for us UK people so i gave my video to the charity shop and had the DVD for Christmas and it gave me hours and hours of enjoyment with it's games, deleted scenes, backstage footage, music video and the movie itself! Originally Disney wanted Joan Collins to voice Ursula but i'm glad they chose pat Carroll instead because she was a perfect for the role and what everyone must remember is that Ursula is not half an octopus but is half squid because it's less expensive to draw! Overall a wonderful Disney masterpiece that's way better than it's sequels. Gotta give it 10!
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Very good
I think that this version of the lion the witch and the wardrobe is very well acted and very good timing. As much as i love the BBC version, it's to long and after a while it gets boring but this version is a dead on 2 hours approximately and features some really great effects and costumes.
The only reason i never gave this film a 9 and not a 10 was because most of the effects and animal characters were computer animated which works really well but its still nice to see live action acting.
I think that this will be bigger than all it's future sequels because this is the story people know best and it's not too long, not over acted and has some amazing special effects.
Normally the White Witch has too many lines in other versions and she over acts but Tilda Swinton kept relaxed and managed to pull a really mean witch.
Overall a very good version of C.S.Lewis' most popular book.
101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure (2002)
A poor sequel
I disliked this movie because when i was aged 2- 6 i always watched the original and loved it but when i saw this version in my mind it spoilt the joy of the original. The animation in this film i thought was fantastic and the replacements of the voices i thought were very alike as well apart from Cruella who did sound to me much like the Betty Lou Gerson version. The songs were enjoyable and good fun but there was no reprise of Cruella Devil which was the part of the original's big success in theatre and on video. I thought the timing of the film was very good but but not as long as the original. The merchandise with the movie's original release in 2003 was really great fun and the movie was very popular at the time. In total the film had it's fare share so i rate it 7/10
The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000)
Good, but the music did not stand out.
I loved the characters much more in this movie than the original! Although the animation had brighter colours and a brilliant storyline, the thing that let me down was the songs. In the first movie the songs were really catchy due to the work of Alan Menken and that's what I loved about the film but in the second movie there weren't as many songs and most of them were love songs. The characters were much better including the villain who was a skinnier version of the first movie's villain, and i thought using Pat Carroll's voice for this character was a really wise choice and it would've been nice if she had taken part in the third movie because she has an extremely powerful voice for a villain and it may have been nice if she did Marina Del Ray, but Sally did a great job anyway!
This movie wasn't better than the original due to the songs and the running time but was a bit better than the third.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
Good
This version of Snow White and the seven dwarfs in my opinion is the best. Positive points i like about this movie are firstly the fact that there has been lots of animated versions of the fairytale made and none of them have out stood Disney's animation. Secondly i enjoy the charming songs in the movie because they are magical. Thirdly i like the voice talents for examples Pinto Colvig voiced Grumpy and Sleepy and they sounded so different. Also Lucille La Verne also voiced two characters - The Queen and The Witch.
Many animated versions have been produced of this charming fairytale and this one out stood them all with it's animation, songs, characters and that Disney touch! This animated version was the original and simply is the fairest of them all!! JCJ
Hope Springs (2009)
Great Drama and Comedy!
I loved this series from the moment i saw the first episode! After watching 5 episodes it felt to me that these characters in this programme were my only Sunday TV because BBC1 haven't put much on since Wild at Heart. My favourite character is Sadie because i think she look's more like a baby than an old woman and she's so funny that i laugh my head off at her! My favourite scene is when Sadie cuts Marius' arm off with a sword, i thought it was hilarious and loved the fact that a little old lady murdered this big guy.Although it was a bit bloodthirsty that scene, you think of it in that way and you literally just laughed! I love the actress Annette Crosbie and i though she was hilarious in calendar girls and one foot in the grave!
The Fairytaler (2003)
Excellent series, especially 'The Snow Queen'
This series is fantastic and i love the animation because most animation that's not Disney looks like that old Pokermon style which i hate but these animators has made this series magical because it's animation looks like the pictures you find in well drawn story books but alive instead!
I love The Snow Queen the best because it is probably the longest of the series and has a fantastically magical atmosphere while watching. Although the little tune Gerda sings is not very catchy apart from that it is great. In this version the Snow Queen is evil during the film but as we come to the end of the film we learn something that other versions do not reveal which is that the Snow Queen only took Kay and made him do the mirror puzzle because if he finishes it the Snow Queen will be freed from a spell she was put under and she'll return to her beautiful self as a fairy but does Kay finish it well i can't tell you you'll have to buy it yourself!!!
One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961)
fantastic the best Disney movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the best ever version of Walt Disney's original classic ever. When it came out on video in 1999 i was only little and missed out on this grand opportunity but in 2008 it was released again on a restored special edition 2 disc DVD which i had straight away for my 12th birthday. My favourite character is cruella devil and no artist ever drew her better than the brilliant Marc Davis. The voice was provided Betty Lou gerson who did a much better job at it than Susanne blakeslee and April Winchell , i think Betty Lou gerson was so amazing that she literally made cruella steal the film!!!!! Super super super super film better than the second by far.
Jack and the Beanstalk (1998)
good
I saw this panto version of jack and the beanstalk at Christmas on itv2 in Christmas 2008. I've been going to the pantomime since 2006 and the first panto i saw in Christmas 2006 was jack and the beanstalk starring john barrowman and thought it was fantastic but when i saw this version on itv2 i was rather bored. The reasons i found this version quite poor was because i thought that the costumes, settings and backgrounds were quite cheap looking and did not stand out from the real panto i saw of it in 2006. The reason i never gave it 2 but instead 7 is because i thought that like always Julie Walters gave an hilarious act and made me laugh and laugh so well done Julie your a star and why your not dame Julie is mad! I have seen john barrowman (torchwood),lesley Joseph (birds of a feather) and Chris cascoyne (coronation street) in theatre since 2006 - 2008 and this year 2009 i am hoping to see john again as robin hood in the new theatre!
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1988)
Perfect production of the timeless children's story!!
This version of the chronicles of Narnia was a TV series that was produced by the BBC and aired on television around Christmas 1988. It was directed by Marilyn Fox and produced by Paul Stone.Although the effects are not as good as they look considering most of the special effects were made from animation, there are times where the children fly which was most impressing at the time especially for BBc productions. Although this version was classed as a series it was later put together to be known as a 2 hour long film and was put onto video cassette classed as a film, however later DVD releases of the production were separated back out as as a TV series and the DVD contained it all but in episodes as a series.
It won the BAFTA Award for "Best Video Lighting" in 1988. In the snow scenes the children were so cold that even the boys wore tights under their sorts and socks and they wore hot water bottles and teabags apparently?
The witches costume was made from pure nylon and on a TV breakfast show Barbara Kellerman who played the witch actually said that the beautiful coat she wore was actually made from pure nylon and that she was absolutely freezing during her performance, but she still managed to uphold a fantastic performance as the wicked white witch.
After the lion ,the witch and the wardrobe BBC released from 1989-1990 the next narnia stories including prince Caspian, the voyage of the dawn treader and the silver chair.
Actors and acteress' who appeared in more than one narnia were mainly Ronald Pickup who played the voice of Aslan in all 4, Ailsa Berk and William Todd Jones who play in all 4 the body of Aslan and Barbara Kellerman who played the white witch, the hag in prince Caspian and the lady of the green kirtle in the silver chair.
Although there has been many video releases of this version classed as a film , this version of the lion, the witch and the wardrobe will always be a TV series by BBC television!!
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1967)
Excellent production of a timeless classic children's book!
This version of the lion, the witch and the wardrobe was made for TV network by ABC weekend television in 1967 and had 10 half hour episodes. All the animals and fauns and Aslan were people in costumes and the costumes were designed by Neville Green. They famous white witch was played by actress Elizabeth Wallace and the body and voice of Aslan was provided by Bernard Kay who's recently still acting now (2009).The series was produced by Pamela Lonsdale and adapted for the t.v. by Trevor Preston. Only episodes one and eight are known to exist and this day and the music of the series was by a man called Paul Lewis. No releases of this version has been made on video cassette or DVD and this was the very first Narnia to be made after the book was released. The next version to be made was to be an animated version in 1979 then in 1988 the BBC would create a new series with a mixture of live-action references and animation. Although its unknown upon if some of the main cast still live we know that they did great performances.
The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning (2008)
amazing 10/10
I find this film to be better than the other two and i think that marina del ray is amazing and much better than Ursula and Morgana!I think that Ariel is beautiful in this version and is so much prettier than when she was in the 1st and 2nd film. If you have not seen this version of Little Mermaid well you've just gotta get it as it is brilliant with, better animatian, better plots and magnificent, dazzling animation including never before seen in the other films 3d effects and the director of this film was also known to be a dancer so if you wonder why the dancing is so crazy that its brilliant its because the director who not only did a fabulous job on the film but made her dancing background shine in this all new amazing film!If you have not got this version on DVD well you've just gotta get it as my DVD of it was 10/10 for me and my brothers DVD he said was also 10/10 for him and my friends said the same!!!!
