Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003)
It could have been better.
The actress who played Griet was the best part. I didn't like how they portrayed the artist Johannes Vermeer. The way he looked at Griet was kind of perverted. She was just a little kid. Hollywood and the film industry tends to think everyone was and is sex crazed just like they are. The setting was good as were the costumes. Remember people, the story is completely fictitious. To this day no one knows who the girl with the pearl earing really was. It could have been his daughter for all we know. I liked the way they showed how paints were made back in that day. I thought that was a pretty good touch. And how optics were used for making even better portraits. But I'm not real happy with how the artist was portrayed. But the scenes portraying seventeenth Holland were really good. I think that's one of the major appeals of the film.
Vanilla Sky (2001)
One of the worst movies I've ever seen.
I tuned in to see this movie on Showtime just to see Penelope Cruz. She's very beautiful as everyone probably knows. I was shocked by the vulgar language in this film. Especially between Tom Cruise's and Cameron Diaz's characters. It was too much for me. I would not have wanted to watch this movie with anyone. It would have been embarrassing to say the least. I did not identify with, or care about any of the characters either. Cheap dialog sprinkled with platitudes. It seems like Cameron Crowe was trying to copy 'Total Recall' or something. It was also very hard to follow. If I had paid to see this, I would have wrote a really bad review. What a waste of time.
ABBA: The Movie (1977)
The only chance I'll get to see ABBA in concert.
I saw this movie on Oprah Winfrey's Oxygen Network (thanks Oprah!). I had heard of it. I'm an ABBA fan. I love their music. I think Agnetha and Frida are two of the best singers I've ever heard. They're also very beautiful. Watching this movie is like being in a time machine. It brings back all of the memories of that time, you know, when music was still worth listening to. I wish someone would put this movie on DVD. The disc jockey stuff isn't bad. As a matter of fact it's kind of cool. He has a dream sequence that's interesting with Agnetha and Frida. Well anyway, I never got to see ABBA in concert so I'll really enjoyed this movie! I give it the highest rating possible. But then again, I'm a music nut!
D-Day the Sixth of June (1956)
interesting period piece
I liked the movie. I saw it late one night on the American movie classics channel on TV. Dana is really pretty. And the movie showed a little anyway what life might have have been like during the war. Henry Koster is a great director.
