Buba (2022)
Bjarne Mädel at his best
Wonderfully dark and quirky comedy. I highly recommend watching this in German (with subtitles) so you can appreciate the brilliance that is Bjarne Mädel. His Buba character was the best part about "how to sell drugs online" so I'm thrilled they gave this character it's own origin story movie.
IF you liked this, check out Tatortreiniger (Crime Scene Cleaner) which was Mädel's most iconic role. Same director. But look for the German original, not the British remake.
Pam & Tommy (2022)
A wild ride
It exceeded all expectations. If you loved "I Tonya" you'll love this. As long as you are ok with nudity. It's such captivating storytelling, the music choices are perfection, it's a hilarious, energetic and surprisingly sweet ride. And total 90s nostalgia.
Tre nøtter til Askepott (2021)
Much better than I expected
I think this turned out surprisingly good for a remake. Of course the original is still a yearly must for Christmas but at least this stayed very close to the original story and the few things they changed were mostly improvements of plot points in the original that we always made fun of it that never quite worked. The scenery, production design and cinematography is stunning and almost reminded me of the Mulan remake. The acting hit the right tone without making it overly cheesy.
Yes I missed the music and some of the iconic costumes of the original but at least there was a nod to the original theme in the beginning.
I watched it in German while in Germany but I really wish they'd also dub it into English (or at least offer English subtitles) which the original never did so this could be released and watched in more countries.
The one thing that really really bugged me was that they changed the names of the horse & the owl in the German version. I assume they kept the Norwegian names but if you dub it, you might as well change the names. In the original they have different names depending if you watch it in German or Czech.
