The Legend of Tarzan (2016)
Abs-olutely enthralling!
Because who doesn't love a little eight-packed ripped abs on a six-foot-four handsome giant? Though, as my husband claimed, they could have been digitally enhanced. I doubt it, though.
All my favorite tropes combined in this film to make one of my favorite movies I've seen this year: wide-screen action, amazing CGI, a love-to-hate bad-guy, cinematic beauty with beautiful jungle, river, and savanna-scapes, and some really hot romance. What's not to love? I've grown up a fan of the Tarzan/Jane love story. I watched the Johnny Weismuller versions as a girl, and enjoyed the cartoon Disney with my kids. But I admit to always hoping for a well-done cinematic modern-take on the story, and this one delivered quite well. The on-screen chemistry between the two leads sizzles, Nick Fury (because he's not really Samuel L. Jackson to some of us) follows through a believable hero, and the back-story of Tarzan's growing-up years was well-placed and smoothly worked in to the overall story.
Loved it.
The Blacklist (2013)
One of the best crime dramas out there
So I started out with limited expectations. My husband and I are big crime drama enthusiasts, so of course we were gonna have to try out this mega-hyped show on NBC. But as I went into the season, I expected that it would be fairly run-of-the-mill dime a dozen.
So glad to be wrong. I love this show, and it's getting better. The first episode was good. The next, really good. The Stewmaker tonight was completely awesome! Goodness, I'm not someone that picks apart characters and story lines and plot structure... well, I am, but I don't generally report about it on a review board. To me, if the story is entertaining and the characters halfway believable, it's good. It may even be great.
James Spader, of course, steals the show for me. LOVE the character he's developed and is continuing to develop. Boone as Keen and Klattenhoff as Ressler are really entertaining as well. The ushy-gusher in me is keeping fingers crossed for a possible romantic twist later down the road. Although I'm a fan of Keen's husband too . . . just not as much. :) Anyway, if you like crime dramas, you'll love this one. Out of all the ones out there to choose from, this is a good one to get into,at least in this lady's opinion. :)
The Wonderful World of Disney: Princess of Thieves (2001)
Call me a sucker for a happy ending...
I'm not sure what to call this ending. I think the accepted HappyEnding would be something along the lines of Gwyn and Prince William getting married and living happily ever after. Unfortunately, the film did too much work to make Froderick entirely too likable and didn't do enough character building for the handsome prince. So instead of the accepted HappyEnding being what I wanted to see, instead I badly wished that SINCE Gwyn and Prince Charming couldn't marry, then over time, she "settled" for Froderick, who in my opinion was much more steady, sensible, handsome (except for the hairdo), and would make a much better husband.
As it was, Disney settled for neither ending, leaving me rather frustrated - that is, only as frustrated as I get from watching a movie that didn't do a whole lot character-building-wise, or plot-wise for that matter.
Overall, it's a movie that I can show to my kids and not be ashamed, for which I'm thankful - goodness knows there's few enough of those movies out there... buuuut, as far as entertainment value and real, true, honest-to-goodness quality goes- yeah, look elsewhere.
