3:10 to Yuma (2007)

What kind of a silly story was this
23 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
OK, I'm a huge western fan. Yet modern westerns have always been disappointing to me. Gone are the days of Clint Eastwood and this movie proved that the good times have left on the 3:10 train... maybe going to Yuma? First the story... It starts off good but then Ben Wade LETS himself get caught. OK, not that bad. Then they do a switch where the 'good guys' make the 'bad guys' think Ben is in a coach by putting one of their own in. The funny thing is they LOCK their own guy in. Which means he gets burnt to death later on cause he cant get out. I cracked up laughing it was so funny.

OK, then Ben kills one of the guys with a fork. They don't shoot him. He throws the old bounty hunter off a cliff, they still don't shoot him. Then he escapes. So they shoot the guys who capture him. OK, so they are hell bent on getting him on that train and upholding the law. But its just getting to the point of ridiculousness.

OK, then there is the end scenes. Even though there are gangsters in town, who just shot the sheriff and his deputies the townspeople in the background still go about their daily business. I found it funny watching one guy do the shopping in the background whilst they were shooting people. By now, the sheriff is dead and they still don't kill Ben. Its crazy.

OK at the end the main star runs out and tries to get Ben to the train. Ben Wade ends up helping him SHOOT his own men. But I guess that OK as they keep multiplying. When they ride into town they count 7 men. But they end up shooting about 12 of them.

Then at the end Ben Wade ends up shooting the only guys who actually cares about rescuing Ben Wade. This movie was so ridiculous it ended up becoming a comedy for me.

The only thing missing was a 70 year old Clint Eastward coming out with his poncho and shooting Ben Wade and then making a cheesy catch phrase. But that would only make the movie better IMO.

To give it some credit (4 out of 10) I'll say the cast was good and the acting great.

Its worth watching but don't take it seriously.

My personal favorite movie of all time
14 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I have to say this is my favourite movie of all time. The acting is superb and the cast is great. De Nero and Pacino were great going face to face. It didn't seam like a De Nero and Pacino were chosen purely for getting butts on theatre seats like a recent movie I watched (cant remember the title and it was bad). Both main actors played their roles superbly.

The supporting cast was also excellent. I never really care about actors names so I wont go into details. Yet De Nero's crew were great as well as Pacino's force colleges.

The thing that I like the most about this movie is the fact its got a bit of everything. Action, drama, romance etc. It doesn't just focus on the main plot yet also explores the characters enough and gives ample time to get connected with them. You see their personal lives, their dreams, dedication to what they do etc.

I guess a lot of people thought the movie was too long yet I wouldn't have minded if it were another hour. Every part was necessary IMO to get the viewer involved and get them to feel what the characters are feeling the best they could. You just don't get movies like this any more. Quick action and straight to the point seams to be today's theatre. I guess I enjoy stretched out movies due to the old westerns I watches growing up. The ones where you'd watch 3 henchmen at a train station for 10 minutes before anything happened.

Heat is one of them movies I wished just kept going... I personally would have liked to have seen De Nero get away at the end to leave it open for a sequel. Yet I believe the ending was for the best as sequels usually screw a movie over (except the Godfather, Rocky until IV).

The dialogue was great. I loved the way Pacinos character interacted with people. The no bullshit approach, anything to get the job done.

I just didn't really like the fact that the Waingro character got away at the beginning. Surely De Neros crew would have been professional enough not to let him escape, even when being distracted by the cop car.

The soundtrack was also suburb. I used to be a Moby fan and I like the way the movie integrated at least two of his less popular tracks.

Lastly I enjoyed the side stories, particularly the one where the crew go after Van Zant.

To sum it up, I love this movie. Every year at least one I sit down with a nice meal, some fine alcoholic beverage and enjoy. Now that I'm married I'll probably need to do it on a day my wife isn't home so I can enjoy uninterrupted.

I'll have to see if this movie is available on Blue-Ray when I purchase a PS3. I just had a look at the soundtrack price on ebay AU whist typing this and it still averages $20

Nice cast - bad movie
14 February 2009
All I can say is what were Liu and Banderas thinking. I'm a fan of both actors yet this was horrible. I must admit missed the beginning yet from what I've seen I wont be re-watching anytime soon.

It looked to me like one of them try hard action movies. Lots of explosions, bad fight scenes and typical villain bad acting.

You can tell the movie had some sort of budget. Camera work was good and special effect not all bad... Just a bad bad story. Oh and what the heck was it with the BOLD font in the credits!!??

I was playing online poker whilst watching it on TV, and the poker was more interesting (wasn't even for real money).

Only reason I kept watching was cause Lucy Liu's hot.

Hitler would be spinning in his grave
22 January 2009
Its so bad its ridiculousness. Super Nazi from the 40s on a ship sailing around for 60 years? Everything is just badly done. The whole movie was shot in the dark as if they couldn't afford lighting. It starts off as a terrorist movie and if they stuck to that agenda for the whole flick it would have been better. But no, lets put those evil German Nazi's into the movie, no wait, super Nazi's. Sigh' its always the Germans.

Its an insult to the American Navy, the Nazis's (if you can insult those idiots) and the Arabs alike.

I'm glad I watched this at work while I was meant to be working.
