Child's Play (1988)

Scary, suspenseful and funny!

"Child's Play" (1988) is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. This movie manages to be terrifying while also very funny. There were parts of the movie where I was frightened and other parts where I couldn't stop laughing!

This film is about a murderer, Charles Lee Ray, who is dying after being chased and shot by a cop and possesses a "Good Guy" doll. Andy really wants a "Good Guy" doll for his birthday so his mom buys him one. What she doesn't know is that she bought the one that was possessed by Charles Lee Ray. The possessed doll, Chucky, starts killing numerous people including a friend of Andy's mom who was babysitting him. Andy knows that it was Chucky but know one else believes him. And to make it worse, Chucky is trying to get out of the doll and into Andy's body!

I've seen Child's Play, Child's Play 2 and Child's Play 3 and they are all great but the original Child's Play is certainly the best. I recommend anyone who, like me, loves a great horror film to watch this. This is a well made, scary and surprisingly funny movie. 10/10!

Moon (2009)

A stunningly eerie, creepy and dark movie!

"Moon" (2009) is a brilliantly made movie that manifests on our fears of loneliness and the unknown. This is the best sci-fi movie I have seen in a long time and is one of the best ever made.

This movie is about an astronaut, Sam Bell, who is the single human crew member of a Lunar Industries facility on the moon. There is also a computer there to assist him, GERTY. The facility harvests Helium-3 (a very clean energy source and commonly used on Earth in this movie) and sends it back to Earth. Though, near the end of his time on the Moon, Sam is involved in an accident at the harvester and he becomes unconscious. Once is recovers he goes back out to the harvester and makes a shocking discovery which makes him begin to doubt a lot of things.

This movie may only have a few characters with only one appearing regularly, but this movie still manages to be very exciting and interesting. "Moon" has a very eerie and creepy feel to it that I haven't seen in many other movies. The music, the computer, the infirmary and the landscape of the moon all contribute to this. The movie is also quite dark and explores themes of loneliness, fear and helplessness.

This is a stunning movie and I recommend everyone to go and see it, sci-fi fan or not. This movie may have seen a very quiet and small release in numerous countries but I wouldn't let that fool you - this is a brilliant movie.

Surrogates (2009)

Yet another brilliant Willis thriller!

"Surrogates" is yet another example of just how good an actor Bruce Willis is. This is a great movie that is exciting throughout the whole thing. There are no boring parts in this movie.

This movie is about a world where almost everyone has a "surrogate". A surrogate is basically a robot that is controlled by your mind and lives your life for you while you lie in a special chair. The point of surrogates is that you can live the life you want without any risk to yourself. Then a weapon emerges that when fired at a surrogate can kill the person using the surrogate. This makes the whole point of surrogacy obsolete. So a cop, Tom Greer (Bruce Willis), has to investigate these murders.

The movie is full of action and excitement and certainly is one of Bruce Willis's best action/thriller films. I would definitely recommend anyone interested in robots, action and thriller movies to watch this one.

American Pie Presents: Beta House (2007 Video)

Funny but not a great plot

American Pie Presents Beta House is a funny movie. And it also has nice chicks but the plot and the acting weren't great. This movie was fun to watch but it is definitely not a movie I am going to watch again.

The movie is about three guys who want to join a college fraternity called Beta House. They have to complete 50 challenges to be able to join the fraternity. The two main fraternities (Beta House and Geek House) compete in the "Greek Olympiad". A set of competitions between the two houses to determine a winner.

I enjoyed this movie but, as I said, the plot isn't great though they did manage to make this movie funny. I'd give it 5/10.

Alien vs. Predator (2004)

A movie you can watch over and over again!

Alien vs Predator is a fusion of two of the best movie franchises ever: Alien and Predator! This movie is better than any movie in the Alien or Predator franchise as this movie combines both. Every minute of this movie is exciting and intense. You can never get bored during this movie which makes it so great. And what a brilliant tag-line it has: Whoever wins... We lose.

This movie is about a company that finds an unusually heat source in Antarctica and gathers a team of experts to go down there are investigate. It turns out that there is an old temple located far below the surface and that is the the site of an ancient hunt. Between the Hunters (Predators) and the Serpents (Aliens).

Obviously anyone who enjoyed the Alien and Predator series should watch this but I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves action, battles and powerful creatures. Certainly a movie that you can watch over and over again (like I did).

A great movie - 9/10.

Scary Movie 2 (2001)

Worst of the Scary Movie Franchise

"Scary Movie 2" is a let down to the Scary Movie Franchise. Scary Movie 1, 3 and 4 were all good but this one was kind of boring and not very funny. Luckily they picked their act up after this one and made two more great Scary Movies.

This film is about a group of teens who get tricked by their Professor into going to a haunted mansion for a night. Things start to go wrong and then they realize they have to escape.

This movie isn't horrible but they could have improved quite a few things. It is a bit of fun and if you liked the other movies in the Scary Movie franchise then give this a watch - but I don't think you will like it nearly as much.

The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009)

Great acting, Great plot - Great movie!

"The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" (2009) is an absolutely brilliant film. I truly enjoyed watching every minute of it. I have only rated seven movies 10/10 so far and this is one of them - certainly up there as one of the best movies ever. John Travolta and Denzel Washington play their parts brilliantly. If it weren't for the great acting in this movie then the movie would obviously not be as good. The direction was also good. For a movie to get 10/10 you need the movie to be good all round (plot, acting, effects, direction etc.) - and this movie is definitely great all round.

This movie is about a group of four criminals who hijack a New York City Subway train and holds the passengers in one of the carriages as hostages. The criminals demand $10 million by 3:13pm or they will kill one passenger every minute the money is late.

I really enjoyed this movie and I think anyone who loves a good thrill and enjoys movies about crime and action will. I would definitely recommend anyone to give this movie a watch. I am definitely going to buy the DVD for this movie.

Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Just...weird...

If I were to summarize "Inglourious Basterds" in one word it would be: Weird. Now you are probably wondering: Good weird or bad weird? Well, both - but mainly bad. I wish this movie was a little more focused. If this movie was more focused on what it wanted to achieve, it would be a lot more interesting and funny.

By the way this movie was totally different to what I expected - and that can be good sometimes when it makes the movie less predictable. But in this case it just made the movie something I didn't want to see.

Anyway, this movie is about a group of Jewish-Americans who try to scare the Nazis by killing every Nazi they find in brutal ways. Be warned this movie has a lot of blood, killing and violence just for the sake of having more violence. And that isn't a bad thing (at least not for me - what's a war movie without lots of violence?).

This movie isn't that bad, there are a few laughs along the way and a few exciting moments but in general I didn't enjoy this film.

To sum it up: it is a pretty average movie and I wouldn't recommend friends to watch it.

District 9 (2009)

Certainly a disappointment

I expected "District 9" to be a really great movie. The trailer looked great, the posters looked great and I heard good reports about it. But, I must say this movie was a real disappointment. I didn't really enjoy it.

District 9 is basically about aliens that come to earth and are forced to live in very poor conditions in an area called District 9 (located in Johannesburg, South Africa). Their spaceship is not able to fly them out of Earth and so they are stuck in District 9. The humans then try and move the aliens (known as prawns) from District 9 to District 10 which is newer and further away from the city making the humans more relaxed. But that is when the trouble starts...

This movie is made in the style of a documentary. The plot was great and if they had expanded on that and made the movie more interesting and exciting then this movie would have been great. Which is a pity because I had high expectations for this movie.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009)

Just an average action film

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is pretty much just a typical mediocre action movie. There isn't really much that is special about it at all. I still enjoyed it - but to really enjoy a movie it should be a bit unique and different.

The action in this movie is not great but merely average - same as the plot. The plot is just the basic good vs evil teams and quite frankly it gets quite boring after a while.

If this movie had a less typical plot and a more serious tone - then it would probably be quite a good movie and more enjoyable. Don't get me wrong - it's still a good movie and I'm sure many people enjoyed it - but it could have been better.

That said, it's a good action movie for the family or friends and for those who like action movies then I recommend you see this movie.

Scary Movie (2000)

Funny - but could have been better

This is the first movie in the "Scary Movie" franchise - a movie series that spoofs horror films. I've seen Scary Movie 3 and 4 and I would have to say that they are better than this. The plot on number 3 and 4 is just more interesting and I also found them more humorous. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy this movie and I did find it funny but I believe it could have been better. I guess the Scary Movie franchise is one that gets better rather than worse - which is good because you can expect the next sequel to be better.

This movie is basically about a group of friends who get stalked by this masked serial killer exactly a year after they accidentally killed a man on the road.

This movie is good fun to watch (especially with friends) and I enjoyed it. Not the best of the franchise - but good anyway.

Die Hard 2 (1990)

Action packed with great use of humor

"Die Hard 2", like the other Die Hard movies, has the perfect mix of action and humor. Bruce Willis who plays John McClane - the Die Hard Protagonist, once again does an excellent job. This sequel to "Die Hard" definitely does not disappoint. This movie truly lives up to expectations.

This film is basically about a cop who battles criminals because they are going to cause airplane crashes if the airport staff don't follow the criminals' instructions. The ending is brilliant, action-packed and surprising.

The great thing about this movie is that it never gets boring. Throughout the whole movie, right until the end, it was exciting and thrilling.

I truly enjoyed watching this excellent thriller and is a movie you can watch many times and still enjoy it.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

Terrific Movie - Best Harry Potter movie yet

I'd been waiting to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for a very long time and finally July 15th came. For the first time I decided to see a Harry Potter film on the first day of release. This was partly due to how good the previous Potter film was and Warner Brothers certainly managed to gather a lot of hype for this Harry Potter installment.

From the first few minutes of this movie I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. This movie made use of humor, emotion and excitement unlike any of the previous Potter movies. I believe this movie is so great partly due to the fact that the book was one of the best. But no matter how good the source material is, if the movie is not made well then people won't enjoy it. David Yates and the rest of the cast and crew did an absolutely brilliant job with this movie.

I do wish that the Dursley's were in this movie and that Greyback was introduced better. I found this movie easy to follow as I have read all the books and have watched all the movies, but I fear that people new to the franchise will have trouble following this movie.

There are now two Harry Potter films left and I am definitely looking forward to watching them. David Yates is a brilliant director as he has proved with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and now with this movie as well.

I would give this movie 9.5 out of 10 and recommend everyone to see this brilliant movie.

Death at a Funeral (2007)

Absolutely hilarious!!

I really, really enjoyed watching Death at a Funeral. It is funny in many different ways. It shows just how a funeral can really stuff up.

Death at a Funeral is about a man who died and one of his sons is organizing a funeral for him, inviting most of the dead man's family. During the funeral many things go wrong including a few guys getting seriously stoned without knowing it and a blackmailer threatening to expose some dreadful secrets about the dead man's past.

After the first 10 minutes it is almost impossible to stop laughing. It is amazing how a funeral can be so funny! The characters are brilliant and even more so is the plot. I really can't remember the last time I have laughed so much in a movie.

I totally recommend anyone who loves a good laugh to watch this movie. We were all laughing so hard we had to pause the movie because we couldn't hear the it! This is the first time I have given over 8/10 to a comedy movie! Well done Death at a Funeral!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)

Just plain boring

Transformers 2 is no better than the first one. Overall it is boring and the plot is bad. Some parts of this movie were interesting but certainly not many. The fights between the transformers were boring and not interesting at all. The only good part of this movie was Megan Fox.

This movie could have been made a hell of a lot better than how it was. And the plot is quite hard to understand as well - which certainly didn't help my impression of the movie. There was simply nothing special about this movie. It was just some stupid childish robots walking around which can transform - toddler material.

I certainly don't recommend anyone to watch this movie. There are many, many better ways to spend your money, than on this film.

I would give this a 3/10 rating.

Angels & Demons (2009)

100% lived up to expectations

Angels and Demons is one of my favorite books, so naturally I expected quite a lot from this film, and it totally lived up to my expectations. The thrill of watching this movie is not one that I often feel when watching movies. I would definitely say that this is in the top 5 movies I have ever watched.

Angels and Demons is basically about a Havard religious symbologist, Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) who is trying to help save the Vatican from an old enemy (The Illuminati) who is going to blow the Vatican up (with Anti-Matter) at midnight on the night of conclave and kill 4 Cardinals. He teams up with Vittoria Vetra and some Swiss Guard members, and tries to follow the ancient Path of Illumination which is where the murders of the 4 preferiti Cardinals is going to take place. At the same time he is trying to figure out where the anti-matter canister is and save the Catholic Church.

The movie varies from the book a bit (like Kohler and Rocher don't appear, but the character "Richter" is basically a combination of the two of them), but the basic plot is the same.

I truly enjoyed watching this movie and I am definitely going to get the DVD when it comes out. I totally recommend anyone to watch this movie.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009)

A few laughs, but otherwise very boring.

I found Night at the Museum 2 rather boring. Yes, it had a few funny parts, but it didn't have to many. And the plot was totally childish and not interesting at all.

I haven't watched the original Night at the Museum, so I didn't know what to expect. Luckily, I didn't have any high expectations or I would have been quite disappointed.

This is one of those movies where you really have to ask yourself this question: Why did I waste $10 and 2 hours of my life? As I said, some parts were funny and that is why I gave this movie a 4/10 rather than 2/10.

The ending was terrible. I didn't understand how they couldn't have come up with any better ending at all.

Though, very young kids would enjoy this film, so I guess it's not all bad. If you have a young child, bring him/her to see it, but I wouldn't see it if you are over 9 years old.

Star Trek (2009)

Not nearly as good as it should have been

This is my first Star Trek movie I have seen. I didn't have high expectations for this movie, so that is why I wasn't really disappointed when the movie turned out to be boring and not that exciting.

The bad guys were also portrayed badly, they look like a bikie gang! The film was quite hard to follow. I still don't fully understand the plot. They should have made the movie shorter and the opening scenes weren't really necessary.

The movie got a bit better around the middle (in terms of how interesting it is) but then it became boring like the start, afterwards.

If you are a Star Trek fan this movie might disappoint you as I went with a fan. He said that the movie wasn't nearly as good as the previous ones.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

Brilliant, a lot better than expected

I didn't expect this movie to be great, I thought it would just be average but this movie turned out to be excellent. This is a very well made and exciting film.

Because I have never watched a X-Men movie before, I found this a bit hard to follow. Other than that the movie was brilliant. The action scenes were spectacular and very exciting (some of the best I have seen in a while).

The special effects were great and were used very well. The movie was filmed very well and didn't make it uncomfortable to watch (like some movies).

To sum it up: I think this is a great movie which is exciting, well made and enjoyable to watch. My rating for this movie is 8 out of 10.

Fast & Furious (2009)

Not as good as I hoped...

This movie had a good plot and had good actors. The problem with this movie was that it didn't have enough great car chases and the car chases it did have were uncomfortable to watch as the camera moved so fast. They also used too many special effects.

This movie got a 6 because it was interesting to watch. It was pretty exciting (the opening scene for example) but not what I was looking for when I went to the cinema. I wanted a Fast and Furious movie with lots of great car chases.

Also it would have been better if it didn't have the camera move so fast and so often on the car chases. It was hard to follow what was going on and it gave me a bit of a headache.

The movie wasn't all bad and had some good parts but I think numerous people would be a bit disappointed by this movie.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

The best of the Terminator Series! (So far)

Terminator 2: Judgment Day is one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's best movies. It is exciting, action-filled and definitely well acted. It is the best of the Terminator Series so far. This movie definitely sets a high expectation for Terminaotr Salvation. This movie is one of my favorite action movies ever made.

The ending was a sad but it didn't take away from the movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger was absolutely perfect for his role. The movie is definitely one you should have in your film collection.

It's a pity I didn't watch this in a cinema as that would have made it even better. Action movies are great on the big screen.

I recommend this to anyone who loves a great action movie!

Midsomer Murders (1997– )

Brilliant detective series!

Midsomer Murders is an excellent murder detective series. It is my second favorite behind Agatha Christie's Poirot and Marple. The setting and the actors are great. I really enjoy watching Midsomer Murders and it really makes you think (which is what I love about detective shows).

This show is one of my favorite British TV shows. And I personally prefer British crime shows than the American ones (even though in general I prefer American TV shows).

The show is basically about two detectives (Tom Barnaby and Gavin Troy) who solve murders that happen in the county of Midsomer. Currently there have been 11 seasons but the show definitely does not get old.

For anyone who enjoys a good detective and crime show, this is definitely worth a try. It is very enjoyable and exciting.

Johnny English (2003)

Hilarious!

This movie is one of the best comedic movies made. It is just hilarious! The plot, the characters, everything is just funny in this movie. Even though it is funny, I still enjoyed the action scene's in the movie. This movie has the perfect blend between action and comedy.

"Johnny English" is about a British spy who goes undercover to investigate the theft of the crown jewels. The agency has to choose him because all of the other spies got murdered.

Rowan Atkinson is perfect for the role of "Johnny English" and does an excellent job.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good laugh.

Top Gear (2002–2022)

By far the best car show ever made!

"Top Gear" is definitely the best car show ever. It has been running since 1978 and is a show all about automobiles. This show is one of my favorite shows (not just about cars). It has the perfect mix of humor, stunts, races and general car information. This is what makes the show so good.

This is the No 1. show for car fans. And even if you aren't a car fan - this show is still great to watch. You don't have to know everything about cars to be able to follow Top Gear. The way they talk isn't too technical and they will explain things that are complex.

Each episode is usually made up of numerous different sections: they will test out a few cars, maybe have a few challenges, putting a guest star in a reasonably-priced car and interviewing the guest, and sometimes traveling to a different country. All of these different sections each episode make the show really interesting and not boring.

I totally recommend this show to anyone who likes cars. Its a funny and interesting show.

Transformers (2007)

Pretty Boring

I was reluctant to watch this movie, though I decided to see it. I'm glad I didn't decide to watch this in the theater. The movie was boring. The action scene's were mediocre at best, the casting was poor and the plot was bad. It managed a 3/10 because it had a few good moments. Other than that the movie was quite boring.

It was also quite childish and a good action movie can't be childish. The age group this movie was aimed at was too young for my liking and that is part of the reason why I didn't like it. Maybe if I was younger this movie would have appealed to me.

So if you are a kid who still plays with toys - then this is for you. Otherwise, I wouldn't see it.

To sum it up: it is a pretty boring movie but some younger kids might enjoy it.
