Uptown Girls (2003)
Last 15 min are great
This is a very silly time wasting movie 'till 15 min before the end. That makes it worth while but don't plan to go out of your way to see it. I did and was not that happy. Laughs are few and far between. The acting is OK but the plot and the things they must do and say are more than childlike. But as I said earlier - the last 15 min are very worthwhile.
Seabiscuit (2003)
Oscar Worthy
Simply a great film involving a critical time in US History. Superb acting - scenery - story. Got to be an Oscar contender and Best Acting nominations.Jeff Bridges finest role. Oscar worthy for sure. Toby Maguire is simply a great actor period! The entire cast did an outstanding job. When you see tears flow in the audience - and cheers - you know just how good this movie really is.
The Recruit (2003)
Some Great Parts. Terrible Ending.
Looked forward to seeing this movie. Al Pacino one of the truly greatest actors of all time does a great job as usual but it is his "Usual" fair.Colin Farrell is simply one of the hottest new stars to be in the Movies period. But after enjoying him for the first hour he became a bit overplayed.Bridget Moynahan does a good job but not a gripping personality. The movie has some great parts and great twists except the ending which is without a doubt one of the worst I have ever seen. It made no sense. There was no plausible explanation of why it ended this way. A real shame.
Kangaroo Jack (2003)
A Fun Movie
I went only because I had time to waste today before seeing "The Recruit" my comments on that film appear elsewhere. So I did not expect much. There were thousands of young children there. Well, there were lots of kids there. I enjoyed the movie. It was silly and of course totally preposterous but thats exactly why I liked it. The characters were enjoyable and some hilarious moments. Go see it but don't expect an academy award.
The Hot Chick (2002)
Did not expect much but----
Saw this movie by default. Had gone to see Maid in Manhattan but this movie played first so decided to see it. All the bad press it received set me up to be unimpressed-but.. It is a fun movie - ridiculous in parts but fun none the less. The support cast was great and truly entertaining. At this point I would have to recommend it for sure. Funny and even has tender moments.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Everything I expected and More!
With all the build up I was anxious to see this film. I read the book and loved it at 64 years old. So I had to drive 40 miles to get to the nearest theater which is a old one totally renovated in Houlton Maine. It was a 1:00 PM Saturday matinee sold out of course, with hundreds - or so it seemed -of children. I wondered if I was going to see any of the Movie. I was shocked to see how quiet everyone was with gasps and sighs where they should be. The movie is simply great. The cast is simply superb. What a shame that we will not be able to enjoy Mr.Harris again. He was simply marvelous. When it ended I was surprised and actually disappointed it did not run longer. I was also impressed with the number of families that had come from Canada to view this film.It is safe to say that everyone simply loved it. Don't miss it.
Sweet Home Alabama (2002)
A Fun Flick
Ms.Witherspoon is simply awesome in this fun to watch movie. Her Legally Blonde spoke volumes about her magnetism and acting ability. This film just furthers that talent. There is no doubt in my mind that she will soon become one of the Top Stars in Hollywood.Period.
The Brothers Karamazov (1958)
One of the Truly Great 50's Movies
If you have not seen this-Please do. It has action, deceit, depravity, murder and all the things you might expect. The cast does a great job and after not having seen it for 44 years, it is STILL a great film.My wife asked me to order the film 10 days ago. I did. We both watched it today.Simply a great movie. Period. Enjoy.
