American Horror Story: Election Night (2017)
Get over yourselves, this was actually really good
I don't really leave reviews on individual episodes, but when I saw the rating at first I was shocked and than I was like how more obvious can people be? I personally loved the premiere and I think it was most chilling than most of the other episodes. This was in an extreme way mirroring real life more than any other season and I finally got some tense feelings. It might be partly because I just hate clowns.
Sure it was a very politically driven episode, but this world is very politically driven at the moment. The focus of general media or social media is so much on politics in USA and other countries as well, so I find it very fitting than this show is trying to put their spin on it. And honestly it shows both sides as extreme and crossing each others paths and both going the distance with what they believe in without giving a chance to the other side. When Evan Peters was giving that speech that was some truth to it for sure, but they didn't listen to him, because he was a Drumpf supporter. The lesbians were scared shitless because Drumpf won even though nothing was happening at that time. It is all about the extreme. To show both sides are both right and wrong as humans are.
So I completely disagree with all the negative reviews. You might night like political stuff, I can get that, but the episode was still well made, well written, well acted. So to be biased just because it opened with something that actually happened with the extreme versions of emotions that people actually had is kind of proving their point. This needed to happen and I am glad for this season. I wasn't this invested since the very first season, just because I want to know how far they are gonna push all the agendas and propaganda's. It is almost like if the Purge, IT, AHS and real life had a over the top baby. So please put aside your biased based opinions and just watch the show for the show and don't think too much about the politics, cause at the end of the day, that was put there just to set up the tone and to start the craziness. It most likely won't be a focal point of this season, not really. It will be more like the shadow creeping in from time to time to ruffle the feathers of all the snowflakes.
Donnie Loves Jenny: Bumps in the Night (2015)
Best episode on any TV Show ever
I am not gonna do a full review. I just watched this episode and I don 't remember laughing this much on a show like this eveeeeeer. BTW they are so weird and so cute and perfect all at the same time. I remember seeing that first interview and was like Jenny already loves him. I am just so happy these two found each other. And this whole sex ad episode was so incredible. I feel like all parents want to talk to their children about sex, but the kids already know from school from other things. I never had any sort of talk with my parents and I would really hate to have one at that young age. So embarrassing :D But the way these two acted and blamed sex noises on ghosts? :D You need to watch this episode no matter if you like these two or not. Really. It is so priceless.
The 100 (2014)
Something I would never see coming from CW
Right from the start I have to admit that my biggest obsession is to read the worst reviews. The ones that got 1 star and if I see any valid points I might reevaluate my views on the shows. Not really how I feel about it, I will still like the show if I did before I read the bad reviews. I would just maybe pay more attention to some details.
But with this particular show I did that from the very first episode. And yes there are some things that lack detail. But we still have to take into count that it is a CW show and that they usually are more concentrated on the characters than the plot itself. It's like the plot is there so that the interactions between characters make sense.
And yes there has been many things that were not the most logical. Like sending those kids on earth without any radio. But you can't really know what would it be like to be on the Ark and how would you act, what you could and couldn't do, what you would be able to build and how and how efficient. They needed to know if they could survive on the planet, so they thought that sending those bracelets will be enough. I can't defend their decision, but it made sense for the show and it's script. If they had radio on earth the show would be a different show with different plots. In my eyes they knew how they want the story to develop so they surrounded their decisions around that.
Now let's move on from the fact that the show has few illogical stuff in the plot. There was a lot of remark why do they send 100 kids to earth. Kids who are healthy and can have more children. You have to understand that they only have oxygen for 4 months, so they are sending them there in hope that all of the others can follow and if they would not be able to, they would have to kill a lot of people anyway as they did. So the 100 had a chance at life while people on the Ark would have to fight for it. Because you maybe didn't see it to that point, but after they knew they can go to earth, they had only one ship that could carry 700 people. So either way they would have to kill or sacrifice some people. So having more children on that ship in that moment was not even a possibility at that point.
I have to say this is the first show that I gave a second chance to and it worked. I saw some scenes or whatever from the first season way back when the show started and didn't like it. Now I have quite few friends who posted on fb how great it is so I gave it another shot. I have to say I don't remember a show I liked, loved this much. From the plot, to the characters. It is definitely not a typical CW show. I mean they have some graphic scenes in Supernatural and The Arrow, but I never saw such an animalistic characters.
So my opinion based on what I saw and what I read remains the same. This show has a great depth to it about the way the characters develop and how they have to use they primal almost primitive instincts to survive. Yes there are some characters who do what they do because their involvement with someone, but still it is a situation they have to act on. Nobody can say what is the right or wrong decision. They have their own laws and rules and ways. So you can not say what they should or shouldn't do. Because sky people are raised one way, the grounders another way and The Mountain Men are just crazy. I can't wait what new characters will be in the next season, because I am pretty sure Java is gonna start something even more crazy. I just don't want them to kill: Bellamy, Clarke, Octavia, Lincoln and Raven. They can do whatever with the rest. I hope we will have no scenes such as Finn's. That was heart breaking.
Dracula Untold (2014)
Better than I expected
When I saw trailer to this new Dracula I didn't really like it. I thought it would be really cheese and cheap looking so when I started to watch it my, expectations were really low. But I have to say I was hooked from the very start. Which may have something to do with the fact that Luke Evans is a very intriguing person by the way he looks, talks and acts.
So before I start really getting into the movie and what I liked or didn't like about it, I would like to say that with these kind of movie I really don't care if they have historical facts right. This is a fantasy movie based on a book. Because any Dracula ever made will be put together with the ultimate Dracula by Bram Stoker. And this version of Dracula or the one played by Gary Oldman or any other never existed. So why does it matter how they change the facts if it is for a movie? I don't feel like people cared this much when Quentin Tarantino killed Hitler in a movie theater or Abe Lincoln haunted vampires. So the last thing I am looking for while watching any kind of vampire movie or fantasy movie are facts from history. I watch for the blood and darkness and Luke's hotness.
So after getting that from my chest I have to say I really enjoyed this Dracula. I like that for once he wasn't really a monster by a choice or by force, but because he didn't see any other choice to protect his family. He did what he saw as an opportunity to be the ultimate protector for his people. He didn't see the consequences it may cost him. Or the fact that by damning himself he will make his own people turn on him in a way.
By saying that I want to state that I really like the choices that the script writer made. If I count down how many times we saw the same Dracula, or way too similar. It is one too many, meaning there really didn't need to be the 2014 TV Show. Even though I love Jonathan Rhys Meyers this TV Show really didn't deliver the vampiristic sensation it could have i fit have a different storyline. So everything original is worth giving a chance to if you love vampires. And I bet you, that you didn't see a Dracula quite like this. The CGI was pretty sweet and dark. I mean I don't find Romania to be that dark all the time and I've been there so I can tell, but I get that the darkness was supposed to come from Vlad's powers.
But to not put this movie to the highest pedestal I find Evans's growls when he got mad a bit over dramatic and overplayed and not necessary at all. We get he was angry when he dies, when Mirena died and when he almost died again. But to just look at the moon and growl is a bit too cliché to repeat it that many times in such a short amount of time. Also I think the music could have been a little bit better chosen either a little bit darker or more climatic. For me the music didn't really play any part in the movie which in a way is good, that means the movie get me a few chills just by itself which rarely happens.
I (Heart) Nick Carter (2014)
Not another one
This is just another reality TV Show so that a rich kid can get richer. I mean don't get me wrong I love me some BSB, but this cheesy and forced kind of shows are not my cup of tea. Thats being said let's talk a little about the actual show.
So it centers around Nick Carter and Lauren (what's up with her face) Kitt. And don't tell me she is natural, she tried to make Nick to get botox injections on the show, so I highly doubt that she has her face untouched. To be honest I am not the biggest BSB fan, I like them, I used to listen to their song and I even saw them live once, but I never fan-girl-ed about them, so what I am about to write is just my opinion on what I saw on the show.
On the very beginning in the first episode I felt like Lauren is such a cool and fun girl, but as the episode progressed I felt like she is trying to control someone who needs more freedom than most, because of his lifestyle. I mean she might be a nice person, but she does not show that nice side all too much in the show. Although I might not like her I really don't get why people need to write her hate comments and threaten her. Nick made his choice, even though it might not be a choice his fans wanted him to make, we still should respect that. Lauren is a human being and there is no reason to bully her and if my comments towards her seems like it I am sorry, but she comes of that way on the show.
She seems like she forgets that she is dating a musician and a world known one. I mean I know many musician where I come from and all the older once have families and they make it work. So she just needs to get her head around the fact that being on tour or in a recording studio or wherever else it may be, is his job and that is paying both of their bills. And why am I saying that? Because the first five episode are all about their wedding day. It was set on 1st of March, then couple of hours later it was moved to 12th of April and now to probably to same day in august. And I understand that Lauren finds it frustrating, but that is what Nick lives for and being an "old school" boy band he needs to take every chance he has.
But to be fair Nick is not much better. He is still just a big child. Well in many things he is. He is too dependent on his team and he does not really make any of his own choices. So maybe not all the time, but he does need to step up and speak up. It is still his life, still his career. But let's focus on the main thing the show does. Sign or not to sign a prenuptial agreement. If I were him I would have no matter how in love I was. This world is way too unpredictable and things change way too quickly. He is not that old and neither is she. So in time she might get tired of being on the road all the time, she might get pregnant and stay home and be p*ssed Nick is away most of the year and find someone else. I am not saying it is going to happen. I wish they would stay together, grow old together and all that. I wish that to everybody in the world of celebrities and out of it as well. But how many couples actually make it till the death do them apart? Not so many.
So the show is focused on the little fight between Lauren and Nick, which does not seem all that bad, than on the date of the wedding which changes like every episode and on the fact if Nick should or should not sign a prenuptial agreement. Also we had a chance to see some BSB members and some Carter family members (yeah Aaron was there and most likely not the last time). So if you like those kind of reality TV I am sure you can be entertained, if you are a fan of BSB and want to see them that is not much to see of the actual band, if you don't like Lauren I would not recommend watching it, cause it may make you like her even less.
That Awkward Moment (2014)
WTF should be a motto of this movie
When I first saw a trailer to this I was sure I would not go to cinema to see it, but yesterday me and my friends decided to go. I didn't see any of these reviews before and it wouldn't make any difference in my opinion. I am not going to say that it is mind blowing, but for anyone who wants to laugh this is the movie to see right now.
I mean there is lack of good comedies lately, at least I don't find many movies all that funny. The last one was probably At the End of the World, but which Simon Pegg movie is not hilarious? And I will admit I was laughing almost throughout the whole thing. It was very well thought combination of the main characters. Well the guys anyway. Zac, Miles and Micheal were great at portraying three young drunk f*ck-heads basically. Cause all they did, well all Zac did was being a jerk and a "typical" guy, but of course who falls in love and doesn't want to admit it.
I can't really see how someone doesn't find this funny. It is the stupidest way of fun, but it still has to make you laugh. All the stupid jokes, the stupid situations, crazy and not possible moments? Their expressions and statements, ridiculous lines that made you burst with laughter. I mean a guy who comes to a party as a rock out with a c*ck out? With an actual (well dildo) c*ck out? I mean that is some real sh*t right there. BTW if my expressive language makes you uncomfortable, I am not sorry, because if you did saw or you are going to see this film, you have to be ready to hear a lot more of that kind of language. There is almost not a single moment with a conversation that doesn't include some kind of a bad word.
So my recommendation is this. If you like movies like Project X, 21 and Over and other f*cked up comedies, you will surely enjoy this one as well. Even though it would make a better movie with a little less of romance stuff, it was funny and entertaining. But to have one comedy, with three different romantic story lines? That is a bit too much sweet for me, so much my teeth almost hurt me, because of all the sweetness. I mean of is like when you in fries with ice scream. Over the top, but still awesome. But it works better on its own.
The Lords of Salem (2012)
What just happened?
For a start I have to say that I watched this movie simply because I love everything supernatural and I love rock/metal music. I didn't actually watch the trailer so I had no idea what to expect. I was sure that something crazy will happen, but I didn't see this coming.
The movie itself was quite entertaining and it had it moments. Mostly when Heidi was in the radio. I would actually recommend to make that into a TV Show, because those three characters and weird guests, brilliant choice. And it was actually the best acted on behalf of the main protagonist Sheri. I mean I did like her, she looks cool and the tattoos were amazing and her hair as well. But her acting was a little bit disappointing. I didn't know if to laugh or not, if she was dreaming or hypnotized or what the hell happened. I am not sure if Rod Zombie wanted it executed the way it was, but I can imagine a better use of the time he had with the actors. There was many moments that didn't really need to be in the movie and it was lacking a lot of explanation that could be used instead of some other parts.
Also it had so many confusing moments. Why were there a cross in the room N5? Why were there those rats coming out of it? What was that creature standing behind her? Why was the Satan like a little goblin or something? I am sure Rod Zombie know the answers, but he should have make it more obvious for the viewer as well.
Overall it did make sort of sense. Some of it at least and the cinematography was actually pretty amazing. The pictures created and the atmosphere itself were very captivating and the music well thought. It was creepy and intriguing at the same time. And at least it added a little touch to why he used the five. Because the music was the only actual explanation.
So the movie was confusing, there needed to be much more explanations and background and a little bit better acted. On the other hand you can get lost in the movie in the good way, because it has that kind of vibe that makes you want to see what happens next. Also the artistry behind some o the shots it's mind-blowing, literally. So don't expect much, but if you like creepy, dark movies with a lot going on that makes you think wtf than this is a movie for you.
The Story of Film: An Odyssey (2011)
Love the information, hate the form....sometimes
Just before you start reading mine review please be aware that so far I only saw the first episode and red about 10-12 reviews. And I already don't agree with most of them. The only if I have to agree with is the shots of current places rather than something historical and true to the subject he is talking about. I mean we don't really need to see a pigeon. It had nothing to with anything and that kind of pictures can really distract you I think.
But he is an expert on film history or cinematography itself, but he doesn't claim to be a movie maker or an expert how to make a movie. You know there is a big difference between knowing how to do something and actually being to do it. I mean I know how to tattoo someone, but I have no artistic talent i that way so even if I attempted to do it I would screw up the tattoo. That being said I think he did the best his imagination allowed him to. But I was pleasantly surprised but the value of the actual information given in such a short time. I mean I wrote an 25 pages long essay on this matter and it didn't include so much stuff he said. And his interest in detail (such as the one with bubbles repeating in different ways, but still portraying one thing), in cutting (the way he showed how it was developing), the overall mentioning of how powerful women were at that period of time. I find it impressive that he put it together in context so that it actually worked.
And one last thing I want to say. His voice is his voice. He wanted to say his own studies and conclusions and findings by his own voice. I don 't find anything wrong with that. I feel you should all admire him. It took several years for him to do this, he obviously has an accent and Irish one of those so I am sure some of you are dissing on his voice not because the voice itself, but because of the accent which you don't understand as well as you would probably like to. I personally like his voice, his tone, his accent, the way he speaks, because it doesn't make me sleepy and does not make me bored. I kept interest from start to an end I hope it will be that for the other 14 episodes.
Queen of the Damned (2002)
Music and vampires over storyline
I don't know why people assume that just because a movie is based on a book it has to have the same storyline. And it happens very often actually when someone makes a book adaptation we expect to see the characters as we imagined them and the background about them as well. But what we need to understand is that when someone bases the movie on a book, it only mean that they are going to use their names maybe some major storyline, they might even only use names and the fact that they are vampires. It doesn't necessarily mean that it have to be all the same as the book.
That being said I have to say that as for the movie, it is not a masterpiece, but it did become a cult. Probably, it wasn't because of the script, but that doesn't change the fact that at least every goth or vampire loving person knows the movie and it is highly possible that he/her saw the movie. For me it was actually a nice easy going movie. I can watch any time. O actually saw the movie more than I can count. And to be honest I don't know why it has such a bad reviews all the time. I mean for Stuart Townsed was genius as vampire. And Jessee was great and Marius and the girl with violin. If you really think about it, it is very sentimental, romantic and about someone who is lost for so long and found by love at the end. It is so cliché and so predictable, but also it is very controversial, because of the music that is provided.
I think you will all agree that QoTDhas one of the best soundtracks ever. For me personally it was a start of being addicted to that kind of music. It is shame that didn't find an actor who could actually sing, I believed Stuart when he was singing. I can't imagine for example Jonathan Davis to be Lestat even though he sings his songs. Also we had Chester from LP, Deftones or Marilyn Manson. It was really incredible. Or the violin parts, it has kind of ethereal feel to it. I think about the movie more as musical than a serious piece about vampires. At least they didn't sparkle and had fangs.
