Fighter (2024)
Masala Topgun
Fighter is an ambitious aerial action film that attempts to showcase the heroism and skill of the Indian Air Force. The film stars Hrithik Roshan as Patty, a daring squadron leader who leads a team of elite pilots called Air Dragons. Deepika Padukone plays Mini, his love interest and fellow pilot. Anil Kapoor plays Rocky, a veteran group captain who mentors team.
The film is directed by Siddharth Anand, who previously made War (2019), another action blockbuster starring Hrithik Roshan. Fighter is the first film in a planned franchise that aims to create a cinematic universe of aerial warfare. The film has both positive and negatives.
First of all the positives, The film has stunning visuals, especially the air to air combat scenes, which are adrenaline-rushing and realistic. The film boasts of great production value and the scale is justified by the topography of the snow-clad mountains of Kashmir and surrounding areas.
The film has impressive performances by the lead actors, especially Hrithik Roshan, who portrays Patty with charisma and intensity. Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor also deliver convincing performances as Mini and Rocky, respectively. The film also has a strong supporting cast, including Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Ashutosh Rana.
The film has a catchy soundtrack composed by Vishal-Shekhar, featuring total of 5 songs. Hrithik as usual brings finesse to his dancing abilities and a whopping eye candy for his physique. Deepika also looks stunning in all the songs.
With its highs, the film also brings lot of lows .The film has a preachy and melodramatic tone, which hampers the entertainment value and realism of the film. The film tries to convey a message of nationalism and unity, but ends up being jingoistic and overly biased. The film also has some unnecessary and cheesy dialogues which may make your eyes roll.
The film has a long and dragging runtime, which tests the patience and interest of the audience. The film could have been edited and trimmed to make it more crisp and engaging. The film also has some irrelevant and boring subplots, such as Patty's estranged relationship with his father, Rocky's rivalry with patty, and Mini's career aspirations.
In conclusion, Fighter is a film that has some potential and merit, but fails to live up to the expectations and hype. The film is a mixed bag of high positives and very low negatives, which might appeal to some fans of the genre and the actors, but might disappoint others who are looking for a more original and realistic film like Topgun. Fighter is a film that tries to soar high, but falls short of its mark. Fighter is a film that sure to bring numbers to the box office and thrill cinema goers alike but soon to be forgotten in a month or so.
Jurassic Park (1993)
Life finds a way through beautiful cinema
Jurassic Park is a movie that revolutionized the genre of science fiction and adventure, and set a new standard for visual effects and storytelling. The movie is based on the novel by Michael Crichton, who also co-wrote the screenplay with David Koepp. The movie follows a group of experts who are invited to a remote island where a billionaire entrepreneur, John Hammond, has created a theme park featuring living dinosaurs cloned from ancient DNA. However, the park soon turns into a nightmare when a storm and a sabotage cause the dinosaurs to break free and hunt the humans.
The movie is a masterclass of filmmaking, as Spielberg uses his talent and vision to create a captivating and immersive world where dinosaurs come to life. The movie is full of memorable scenes and sequences which get discussed by movie pundits till this day.
The movie also features a brilliant score by John Williams, who captures the wonder, suspense, and excitement of the story. The movie also boasts a remarkable cast, who deliver convincing and charismatic performances. Sam Neill plays Dr. Alan Grant, a paleontologist who is skeptical of the park. Laura Dern plays Dr. Ellie Sattler, a paleobotanist and Grant's partner, who is fascinated by the plants and animals of the park, but also concerned about the ethical and ecological implications of the project. Jeff Goldblum plays Dr. Ian Malcolm, a mathematician and chaos theorist, who predicts the inevitable failure of the park and provides philosophical insights and moral insights of creation. Richard Attenborough plays John Hammond, the visionary and optimistic founder of the park, who is driven by his passion and curiosity, but also blinded by his arrogance and ignorance. The movie also features Bob Peck as Robert Muldoon, the park's game warden, who respects and fears the dinosaurs, Martin Ferrero as Donald Gennaro, the park's lawyer, who represents the greedy capatlist; and Wayne Knight as Dennis Nedry, the park's computer programmer, who betrays Hammond and steals dinosaur embryos for a rival company.

Tiger 3 (2023)
Same Old Salman Khan Formula
Tiger 3 is the fifth installment in the YRF Spy Universe, starring Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi. The film is directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra. It follows the adventures of Tiger and Zoya, who have to stop a rogue ISI agent from staging a coup in Pakistan. The film had a lot of hype and buzz ever since Pathaan exploded onto the big screen and broke all sorts of box office records.
The film is a typical Salman Khan action thriller, with high-octane stunts, exotic locations, and catchy songs. The film also features a cameo by Shah Rukh Khan, who reprises his role as Pathaan from the previous film in the franchise. The film's music is composed by Pritam, who has delivered chartbusters like Dil Se, and Jashn-e-Bahaara.
The film's strengths are the performances of Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi, who play their roles with conviction and charisma. Kaif portrays Zoya as a strong and loyal spy, who has to face a difficult choice between her love and her duty. Hashmi plays Aatish, the main antagonist, who is a cunning and ruthless mastermind, who uses Tiger and Zoya as pawns in his scheme. The film's action sequences are also well-choreographed and executed, especially the climax, which involves a helicopter chase and a hand-to-hand combat.
The film's weaknesses are the plot and the pace, which are predictable and draggy respectively. The film's story is full of cliches, which make it hard to take seriously. The film also suffers from a lack of logic and realism, as Tiger and Zoya manage to escape from impossible situations and survive fatal injuries. The film's pace is uneven, as it alternates between slow and fast scenes, without maintaining a consistent flow. The film's length is also excessive, as it could have been trimmed by at least 20 minutes which is a testament to it's poor story.
Overall, Tiger 3 is a film that caters to the fans of Salman Khan and the YRF Spy Universe, who enjoy watching mindless masala entertainers. The film is not meant for the critics or the audience who look for substance and depth in cinema. The film is a one-time watch, if you are in the mood for some popcorn fun.
Ambulance (2022)
Another Bayhem Spectacle
Ambulance is a thrilling ride that delivers non-stop action, explosive stunts, and heartfelt drama. Michael Bay, the master of spectacle, returns to his roots with a remake of the 2005 Danish film Ambulancen, and elevates it to a new level of intensity and excitement.
The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as adoptive brothers who find themselves in a desperate situation after a bank heist goes wrong, and hijack an ambulance with a paramedic (Eiza González). The film is a gripping cat-and-mouse game between the brothers and the relentless LAPD, as they race through the streets of Los Angeles, trying to evade capture.
The film also explores the themes of family, loyalty, and redemption, as the characters face the consequences of their actions and the choices they have to make. The performances are outstanding, especially from Gyllenhaal and Abdul-Mateen II, who have a believable and touching chemistry as the conflicted brothers. González is also impressive as the hostage who forms an unlikely bond with her captors.
Michael Bay's showcases his signature style of fast-paced editing, dynamic camera work, and spectacular visual effects. The film features some of the most jaw-dropping action sequences ever seen on screen, such as the helicopter chase in the LA river, the freeway shootout, and a climactic showdown.
In saying this, Michael Bay's hyper excessive camera shots in this film, especially in regards to drone shots and camera swoops can be headache inducing to some viewers which can take you out of the movie going experience. The film also has a surprising amount of violence, on par with a horror slasher film, which can be traumatic to viewers with a weak stomach.
Ambulance is a must-see for fans of action thrillers. This film makes Michael Bay's most entertaining and grounded film to date film since The Island (2005).
Barbie (2023)
Barbie is as toxic as the plastic it's made from
Barbie is a movie that tries to be clever, funny, and empowering, but fails miserably at all three. It is a self-indulgent, overlong, and unfunny mess that wastes the talents of its cast and crew. The movie is based on the popular doll line, but instead of celebrating the diversity and creativity of Barbie, it mocks and ridicules her. The plot is thin and nonsensical, the jokes are stale and offensive, and the characters are shallow and annoying. The movie is full of meta humor and references, but they are neither smart nor original. They are just a way for the filmmakers to show off their supposed wit and knowledge, while insulting the audience's intelligence and taste.
The movie stars Margot Robbie as Barbie, a perfect doll who lives in a perfect world called Barbieland. She is happy and popular, until she realizes that she doesn't fit in with the other Barbies, who are all stereotypes and clichés. She decides to go to the real world to find her true purpose, dragging along her boyfriend Ken (Ryan Gosling), who is a spineless and needy accessory. In the real world, they encounter various challenges and adventures, such as meeting Gloria (America Ferrera), a feminist activist who teaches Barbie about empowerment, and Kate McKinnon's character, a cynical comedian who mocks Barbie's naïveté and optimism. Along the way, they also meet other versions of Barbie (played by Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and others), who are supposed to represent the diversity and evolution of the doll, but are actually just caricatures and stereotypes.
The movie is directed and co-written by Greta Gerwig, who has made some excellent films in the past, such as Lady Bird and Little Women. However, in this movie, she seems to have lost her touch and vision. She tries to make a movie that is both a satire and a tribute to Barbie, but ends up making a movie that is neither. She fails to balance the tone and the message of the movie, which is confused and contradictory. She also fails to make the movie entertaining and engaging, which is the most basic requirement of a comedy. The movie is boring and tedious, with scenes that drag on and on, and jokes that fall flat and cringe-worthy. The movie is also visually unappealing, with a garish and artificial color palette, and a cheap and cartoonish CGI.
The movie is also a waste of the talent and charisma of its cast, who are all capable of much better performances. Margot Robbie is a talented and versatile actress, but in this movie, she is reduced to a bland and annoying protagonist, who is neither funny nor sympathetic. She tries to make Barbie a complex and relatable character, but ends up making her a shallow and irritating one. Ryan Gosling is a charming and handsome actor, but in this movie, he is reduced to a dull and pathetic sidekick, who is neither amusing nor supportive. He tries to make Ken a loyal and loving partner, but ends up making him a clingy and dependent one. The rest of the cast are also wasted, as they are given one-dimensional and stereotypical roles, that do not showcase their skills or personalities.
Barbie is a movie that is a disappointment and a disaster, both as a comedy and as a tribute to the iconic doll. It is a movie that is not worth watching, unless you want to see how not to make a movie. It is a movie that deserves a negative review, and a low rating.
War (2019)
An Action Spectacle
War is a Bollywood action thriller that stars Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff as rival spies who are out to catch a notorious terrorist. The film is directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Aditya Chopra. It is also part of the ever expanding Spy Universe helmed by YRF studio. War is a spectacle of high-octane stunts, exotic locations, and stylish visuals, but it also suffers from a weak plot, inconsistent tone, and excessive length.
The film's main attraction is the chemistry and rivalry between Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, who are both known for their action prowess and dance skills. The film showcases their impressive physicality and charisma in several chase sequences, fight scenes, and musical numbers. The film also features Vaani Kapoor as a love interest for Roshan, Ashutosh Rana as a senior agent, and Sanjeev Vasta as the villain.
War has some entertaining moments, especially in the first half, where the film sets up the conflict and the characters. The film also has some surprising twists and turns that keep the audience guessing.
However, the film also has many flaws that hamper its overall impact. The film's story is convoluted and implausible, with many loopholes and inconsistencies. The film's tone is uneven, shifting from serious to comic to melodramatic without much coherence. The film's length is also excessive, stretching to almost two and a half hours, with many unnecessary scenes and subplots. To summarise its flaws one can say that its more style than substance, more show than tell, and more noise than sense.
War is a film that aims to please the fans of Roshan and Shroff, who will enjoy their screen presence and chemistry. The film is also a treat for action lovers, who will appreciate the slick and spectacular stunts and effects. The film is a satisfying memorable cinematic experience however it does lack a strong emotional core and a clear vision.
The Beekeeper (2024)
UnBEElievably Good
If you are looking for a fun, fast-paced, and furious action movie, you might want to check out The Beekeeper, starring Jason Statham as a former special agent who becomes a vigilante after his friend is scammed by a ruthless tech mogul. The movie is directed by David Ayer, who knows how to deliver explosive set pieces and gritty violence, and written by Kurt Wimmer, who adds some clever twists and witty dialogue to the formulaic plot.
The movie is essentially a showcase for Statham's charisma and skills, as he plays a man who lives a quiet life as a beekeeper in the countryside, until his friend and mentor falls victim to a phishing scheme that drains her life savings. Here Jason Stathams character then embarks on a mission to track down and punish the culprits responisble leading to a hive of concpiracies and plot twists.
The movie does not take itself too seriously, and neither should the audience. The plot is full of holes and implausibilities, the characters are mostly one-dimensional, and the dialogue is often cheesy and clichéd. However, the movie also has a sense of humor and self-awareness, and does not shy away from poking fun at its own absurdity and genre conventions. The movie also delivers on the action front, with plenty of shootouts, chases, fights, and explosions, all staged with flair and energy by David Ayer.
Statham is in his element, as he dispatches his enemies with style and efficiency, while also displaying some emotional range and vulnerability in certain scenes. The supporting cast is also solid, with Jeremy Irons and Josh Hutcherson hamming it up as the villains, and various supporting casts adding some warmth and depth to the story.
The movie is not without its flaws, and it is certainly not for everyone. Some viewers might find it too violent, too silly, or too predictable. However, for fans of Statham and action movies in general, The Beekeeper is a satisfying and entertaining ride that will keep you buzzing for 90 minutes. It is the best kind of bad movie, one that knows what it is and what it wants to be, and delivers on its promise. The Beekeeper is a honey of an action movie, and you might want to give it a try.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Jurassic World: Disappointment Park
Jurassic World: Dominion picks up four years later. But instead of an epic clash for territory, this trilogy-closer chooses to retread the greatest hits and use its prehistoric animals mostly as props and turning them into a sub-plot. A really convoluted plot that didn't make sense. Choppy direction and horrible use of the legacy characters. The CGI seemed to be downgraded in this film somehow when compared to the previous instalment. Though some set pieces and animatronics were mesmerising to see. Overall a dumb boring movie that had the potential to be great. The producers were too pre occupied on wether or not they could make a movie and not wether or not they should.
Acting: 5/10 (nothing stood out in this film. Besides Chris Pratt's Charisma and the on screen presence of the legacy actors, it was basic acting who could have been replaced by anyone.
Action: 6/10 (All you want from a jurassic movie is Dinosaurs running amoc and killing people. When there was dino action it was great but so little of it and quickly finished left you wishing there was more. The whole malta sequence was perfectly executed. Though it had great animatronics, some CGI scenes of the Dinos was so bad it took you away from what was happening on screen and asking yourself what on earth happened here? Clearly they forgot the famous quote of the first film "spare no expense")
Sound: 8/10 (I had the luxury to see this in a Dolby Atmos theatre. Sound design was amazing. Not as good as Topgun Maverick or Michael Bay's Ambulance but good enough to make you appreciate the surround sound. The Dilophosaurus scene is where it really accentuates the Dolby Atmos technology.
Story: 1/10 (Convoluted plot and over all boring. Dinosaurs became a sub-plot to the story arc. Poor character development. Most notably the poor use of the legacy characters. Biggest disappointment was the character of Dr Allan Grant. Sam Niel did amazing for what he was given but writing and arc of his character in this film was abysmal.
Feels/Nostalgia: 5/10 (There could have been great Nostalgia but poorly executed and barely used in my opinion. There were some cute emotional scenes between Humans and Dinos but the boring plot over shadowed those moments.
Over all score 5/10.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
High production thriller that has potential
I saw this today with mates who have not even seen the franchise. I gave them a 30 sec brief on what it is about before going into the theatres and they loved it. The comedy chris rock brought to the screen fit well with the tone of the film. It could have been better but entertaining. Felt the traps sequences were short and not as elaborate like previous films but still made me squirm and gasp. The directing and production was great you can tell they put effort into the film.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
Jurassic Fun
Let's take into account this is 5th film of the franchise. There is so much you can do and stretch story wise. Considering this, the film plays relatively well. As a JP fan of the original it kills me to see the obsession of over the top CGI. This area is where it let me down the most, there were some aspect where animatronic and CGI was well executed and some scenes it looked rushed or unbelievably fake. Nevertheless it was still an ejoyable ride. It is one of the few "Family Friendly" movies that are coming out these days. It has the action coolness and has the emotion feels for drama. If you are a JP fan you will love it, if you are a casual movie goer you will find it decent watch but if scientific inaccuracies and movie logic bothers you this film you will hate.
Action (8/10): over all amazing, two sets of action from explosive to thrilling. Times unrealistic but amazing to look at. A lot of animatronics in this film which is great for the soul of the scene.
Acting (7/10): Nothing great or anything that stood out to be Oscar worthy. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas-Howard were the only stand outs. The rest of the cast was forgettable. Oh and "Blues" character was enjoyable to watch aswell.
Story (6/10): Only season story has an average rating is because everything was revealed in the trailers/promos/tv-spots. As a fan I watched all of those so hence story wise I wasn't blown away but still it was decent enough to keep you interested in the moment. Plus it's also the 5th film in the franchise.
Sound (10/10): I had the joy of experiencing this in a Dolby Atmos cinema. While Dolby Atmos Cinemas essentuates sounds of all movies, you can tell if the movie has been produced in a Dolby Atmos sound mix. The surround sound effects in the third act were brilliant and made the dino scenes terrifying.
Feels (10/10): This movie dealt with a lot of emotions. Not on a human side but from a dinosaur perspective. This movie gave the dinosaurs character and soul. This is what you want from a dino movie.
Over all critic rating (8.2/10) Over all FanBoy rating (10/10)Jurassic Fun
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Street Lvl Super-Hero
Going in with not too much expectations. From the trailers it looked like another typical summer blockbuster, Average cgi, unknown cast members plus adding to the fact it was a 2nd or 3rd attempt in rebooting the Spider-Man franchise.
This movie certainly exceeded expectations. This was a totally different marvel movie. It was scaled down, from a super hero perspective. It showed Spider-Man as young high school kid. More street level super hero, none of the city/planet saving hero you seen from iron man films or Thor etc. This added to the freshness off the marvel universe.
Acting was great, story was decent, sound design was brilliant. The most fun id probably had in a marvel movie. Where it let me down was the Spider-Man suit. In some scenes it just looked liked a Video game and some looked majestic. The inconsistency mixture of the CGI suit just didn't feel right. Kind of reminded me of that Ryan Reynolds movie.
Acting: 10/10 (Hands down best Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Goofiness and clumsiness matched with the youthfullness of his age presented. His age also played part of the story. Michael Keaton as the Vulture was perfect. The modernization of the character fit well with the movie at same time giving him little touches to respect the comic book look. The supporting characters weren't over done, there weren't any forced comedic moments that made your eyes roll).
Action: 9/10 (Scaled down a lot compared to other marvel movies, no big massive explosions, no collapsing buildings, property damage was kept to minimal but at the same time there was lots of action sequences, beautiful shown as well).
Sound: 10/10 (sound design was the best out of all the marvel movies. The team behind the sound mix deserves an Oscar. If you have the luxury to experience this film in Dolby Atmos then please do. The modernization of the classical spidey theme fit perfectly with the film shown).
Story: 5/10 (Story wasn't much to be honest. It was enough to make a movie but nothing too great. Basically this movie was a tribute to marvel fans that Spider-Man is back in the same universe as iron man and Co).
Nostalgia/Feels: 8/10 (Spider-Man always have feel good moments. This had plenty and had a good "take home message" which didn't feel overly clichéd).
Over all average rating of 8.4/10
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
Bayhem: The Last Knight
Hard to define this movie. If you Mix sky diving and the roller coasters from the 6 Flags theme park, you get Transformers 5: The Last Knight. A visual bayhem experience of explosions, cars, cliché moments and women. Though compared to his previous style and movies, there was less objectification of women. If that is something that triggers you, that's one change that was noticeable in this film. The Female lead had a purpose and a role in fighting the ongoing onslaught that had evolved in the transformers cinematic universe. Though movie in itself had an impressive mythology aspect to it. It did bring about loop holes and possible plot holes that need to be explained. If you are watching a transformers film for the Oscar worthy story then you are not watching it properly. This is a franchise where you shut your brain off from the world and enjoy the adrenaline fueled rush.
Acting: 5/10 (I don't know what it is, but acting felt dull. Mark Wahlberg was good and less annoying in this film but still felt it could have been played by anyone else. Anthony Hopkins was brilliant, played the mysterious British character with finesse and added a good comedy aspect to it. Laura Haddock the female lead was OK as well, again she could have been replaced by anyone but on the plus side her character had an actual role rather than being a Michael Bay eye candy. The side characters didn't hit the mark. For some reason they felt off pace with the film though they had their moments, they just didn't seem to click)
Action: 10/10 (like all Michael Bay films he can't go wrong with the action. Giving him the nick name of bayhem he certainly delivers on this. The aesthetic set pieces mixed with the unorthodox cinematography and CGI was a visual masterpiece. The most explosive transformers to date)
Sound: 10/10 (Michael bay is a vivid supporter of the Dolby Atmos cinematic sound. This film was specifically made in the sound mix of Dolby Atmos. The helicopters flying from left to right of cinema, fighter jets flying in and out around the 360 degrees speakers, explosions coming from all angles of the cinema speakers leaves u in awe. This is a film where you must go out of your way to pay that extra dollar to watch it in a Dolby Atmos)
Story: 7/10 (Michael bay with a story? There have been critics of bay saying there is no story in this franchise or this film. I beg to differ. This movie like the second film and little of the third, expanded the transformers universe. Though there might be conflicts in plot because of the new history of earth, mythology being added to the story and various scientific inaccuracies. It served quiet well and leaves the viewer eager to know more. With new transformers being added to the film the introduction to them was spot on)
Feels/nostalgia: 10/10 (This film had many heart throbbing tear jerking moments. The human emotion that Michael bay that gives to the transformers is brilliant. Though cliché at times, it is the type of film where you can accept a cliché and enjoy it rather then roll your eyes back. For the fans of the franchise there is lots of nostalgia to be experienced)

Wonder Woman (2017)
Wonder Woman - Not That Wonderful
Wonder Woman left me wondering where does the DC universe stand? Now don't get me wrong this was a good movie and enjoyable 3 hour session (including 30min of pre trailers). But the hype it got with 90% rotten tomatoes? 70+ on meta critic? Yeah no fake ratings.
Firstly this was a major step-up from previous DC installments. This was a roller-coaster ride, lots of ups and downs and a lot of beautiful action sequences. The 2 leads Gal Gadot and Chris Pine were enjoyable to watch and the chemistry between the duo bonded well on the big screen. The comedy and romantic tension between the two was well executed and put a nice tone to the darkness of the film. Final few acts were right in the feels and almost heart stopping.
Not all was well. DC has been trying to play catch up with Marvel in the cinematic universe, ultimately not executing their product effectively. DC just blasted ensemble films to the audience with out building to it. Where as Marvel has been building up a backstory of a continuous villain (hydra) while at same time making a sole story for specific films. This is what DC should have done and brought this film out first, then other solo films, create a continuous back story to keep audiences engaged. This is where Wonder Woman failed. There was no real story, it was just Wonder Woman doing her thing. It was more of a spin off to a trilogy that has ended. Pacing was off too. Action scenes, though great, but came out of nowhere and stopped out of nowhere. The villain was horrible. DC is known for iconic villains and they failed here which was disappointing. In fact I'm still wondering who the villain actually is?
Acting: 7/10 (Gal Gadot suits the action actress role, plays out her stunts with finesse, the innocence of Wonder Woman was well played too. Chris Pine was funny to watch with his great comic relief and charisma, but that it was it nothing too great by anyone else).
Action: 7/10 (There were some great visuals amazing sequences where you would go on YouTube and search the particular scenes but some scenes had too many, overly done slo-mo. CGI in some scenes just went from Oscar worthy to a B-Grade student film).
Sound: 7/10 (Wonder Woman theme played well with the action, the explosions, bullets and whips sounded decent in the Dolby Atmos theatre).
Story: 4/10 (Pacing was off, lot of up and down, fast paced to really slow and dull. I'm confused to where the DC universe wants to go? They haven't developed any solid back story that will carry on and tie in to a big finale. From a solo film perspective it was great to see how Wonder Woman became a warrior but the poor use and execution of a villain was major let down. DC is known for villains they should have not gone wrong on this department. Another let down were the side characters, no development, rushed them right into the plot).
Feels: 8/10 (Excellent heart throb moments towards the final act. Really felt the emotion of how it played out. Possible onion eyes for emotional romantic losers).
Final Rating: 6.6/10 (Compared to BvS: 5.5/10, SuicideSquad: 5/10)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
Dead Franchises Tell some Tales
Dead Men Tell NoTales But Dead franchises certainly have the ability to do so. Yes this franchise came back from the dead with the possibility of saving it. As a major fan of the first 3. The Davy Jones saga intertwined with the foundation of the Black Pearl story perfectly. Hence setting up a universe and a pirate mythology. Viewers need to note this, this is a fantasy franchise based on pirate mythology and not a swashbuckling adventure film. The 4th film in the franchise was a major let down. It was a more of a steroid induced spin off than a sequel. This 5th film how ever, establishes basics and sets the tone back to the first one. A huge improvement.
Unfortunately not quiet living up to the first 3. The use of Will Turner was really disappointing. They perfectly set the tone up for a return but did not execute a story line. Rather turning it into a cameo than a star billing cast member. The Music wasn't bad, felt good with the pacing and with the movie portrayed but no aesthetics to it like Hanz Zimmer conducted in the first 3.
Acting: 8/10 (Javier Bardem, this guy is a class act. The range of Villainous characters he brings to the screen is crazy. Johnny Depp, the big show or the no show? A different Jack Sparrow, not the one we are use too. Stupid jack, lost his mojo, but it ties within the plot line. The 2 youngsters were a great refreshment, in fact they were the leads. The small cameo that Orlando Bloom had was dark & ghostly. Wished the plot revolved around him but he was just the foundation unfortunately. The dark aura of the Flying Dutchman that he brought in the small screen time that he had will leave you wanting more).
Action: 8/10 (Brilliant Visuals and Excellent Action Sequences. This film has a lot of major sequences. This is where it may be a let down, got slightly too much needed more pirate to pirate action).
Sound: 7/10 (Surround sound in Dolby Atmos was good but not ground breaking that can give one the wow factor. The music sounded great but no aesthetics).
Story: 7/10 (There was a lot going on. A lot to follow. Some may think it's a flaw, too rushed or over crowded but from a franchise trying to keep the ship afloat its a good thing. It expanded the universe, characters were funny and had a purpose. Though there was a flashback scene which might turn out to be a plot hole where only fans will pick up. Unless this gets fixed in the next film).
Feels/Nostalgic: 7/10 (When you're 5 films into a franchise nostalgia is a must. Yes there were call backs to previous films but I don't feel they were well executed. The film had small heart throb moments but nothing that will bring out the onion eyes).
Final rating: 7.4/10
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Alien: Covenant (Prometheus 2) A beautiful blood bath of Alien Horror
Alien: Covenant (Prometheus 2): First thing first. This is a sequel-prequel. Prequel to the original Alien universe but sequel to the first prequel in the series Prometheus. So hence Prometheus 2. If you didn't like Prometheus's open ended, philosophical take on the Alien universe then there is a high chance you won't like this film. No this film doesn't answer questions left unanswered in the first one. It's not meant too. Part of the excitement is the questions the new films are bringing up. It's 3 story arc which adds up when the last of it comes out. Just like the it's predecessor it leaves with more questions but...we finally get the sense of where Davids, the android, purpose lies. We get more of a insight to the creators of life, though like previous film it teases not answers and why creation of new species must come about with the sacrifice of the other...or should it ?
Prometheus was beautiful thriller with snippets of Alien gore. Alien: Covenant is a beautiful blood bath of Alien horror galore.
Acting: 8/10 (Stand Outs: Michael Fassbender can't go wrong with him no need to explain him. The one that really stood apart was Danny McBride. First serious role breaking the stereo cast for his comedic takes in films).
Action: 10/10 (Cinematic beauty. An alien horror that has been crafted by DaVinci himself. Ridley Scott sticking to basics using Minimum CGI well executed production design and the blend of CGI with real Alien suits or animatronics was perfectly rendered).
Sound: 10/10 (Surround sound in DolbyAtmos was unbelievable. First experience of the horror genre in an immersive surround sound cinema. You literally feel the alien breathing around you, moving around the cinema speakers).
Story: 6/10 (From stand alone point it's pretty basic film. Crew ship detoured, need to escape, survival of the fittest etc. But from the grand universe scheme of things and adding to the expanded universe it was pretty good).
Feels/Nostalgic: 5/10 (When making the modern take of a classic you need nostalgia. Weren't any heart throbbing tear drop moments nor linkage to previous films that made me fanboy, besides the aliens).
Final rating: 7.8/10
Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)
When You make 'Will Smith' Movie Without 'Will Smith'
When the first one was released it was ahead of its time, something grand, something new but didn't take it self too seriously, it was a B-grade fun flick. Each character was identifiable. Will Smith was the Face of the movie. This sequel on the other hand, well "not much you can expect when you decide to make a Will Smith movie without Will Smith". It didn't the have soul, didn't feel unique, felt like any other modern day VFX popcorn flick. It had amazing scenes but forgettable. Even though I went in with lowest expectations, I still hoped it would do me wrong. My breakdown below.
Acting: 5/10 (Geoff Goldblum is the only one worth admiring).
Story: 3/10 (same story as first, no soul in characters or script, dialogue was clichéd).
Action/VFX: 10/10 (This aspect you cannot dislike, you are left in awe in some scenes, clean CGI, no crazy fast cuts, and thank god no shaky cam).
Theatre Experience: 10/10 (watched it in a Dolby Atmos cinema, George st Sydney, Event Cinemas, great experience, popcorn good, staff good as always in Sydney, comfy big seats).
Value for Money: 5/10 ($25 ticket with clichéd dialogue and average acting, VFX just saves it from being utterly disappointed, though my disappointment started with the announcement of "No Will Smith" a year ago").
Nostalgia: 1/10 (This was a big disappointment, when making a sequel to a classic 20 years later, you expect some throw back feels, Jurassic World executed this extremely well).
Recommendation: skip the Cinema, wait for Blu-Ray copy. You will appreciate it more. But if you really want to watch it go to a Dolby Atmos cinema to give you an immersive experience.
Overall rating: 5.6/10 or 6 if I watched it on DVD
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
3 hr Justice League Teaser Trailer
The problem with BVS (batman v Superman) is not the dark tone nor the acting. The Problem came with few things like pacing, the constant back and forth from batman and superman scenes. These kept ruining the flow of the plot.
What failed this movie is the use of unnecessary dream sequences. Which did not make sense at all and there were too many of these, which slowed the pacing down a lot. Even Man of Steel felt like a better structured story than this.
What failed for this film is the build up content. What marvel did well is get the audience connected with certain characters by doing solo films then bringing in an ensemble film. Marvel did well by establishing its characters traits such as the rift between Tony Stark and Captain America through out their films which leads us to believing and understanding the nature of Civil War.
DC/Warner bros just tried to cram too much into one and expected the audience to connect straight away. Ended up being a 3 hour teaser for Justice League. Even the easter eggs felt forced upon rather than a tease.
Superman Felt Whiny and boring. Lex Luther felt like an annoying nerd getting revenge after being bullied in high school, Batman and Wonder Woman is where the film got it right. Ben Affleck perfectly executed the old aged war torn batman. Great action scenes showing him beat up thugs ruthlessly. i would love to see Ben Affleck as Batman again. Wonder Woman felt out of place in the trailers but when you watch the film she is one of the very few who does fit in the movie and leaves you wanting/pondering her place in this universe which gets you excited for the solo Wonder Woman movie.
Action: 6/10. (batman scenes were excellent, climax was visually great yet visually illiterate, CGI in some scenes was a let down, needed more Practical action)
Acting: 6/10. (0 for Jessie Eisenberg, 6 for Henry Cavil, 10 for Ben Affleck and 10 for Gal Gadot)
Theater Experience: 10/10. (watched it in Dolby Atmos Cinema, George St Sydney. The Surround Sound quality of Dolby Atmos really enhances the experience of the movie)
Value for Money: 5/10 (points only for the Dolby Atmos sound, the movie wasn't worth the money. Ticket price was $25).
Recommendation: Wait for the ultimate R-18+ DVD cut. Unless you really want to go and watch it on the big screen then go to a Dolby Atmos theater.
Overall Rating: 6.7/10
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016)
A Simple Michael Bay Film
Action: 10/10. Typical Michael Bay scenes but plus points for the less dramatic camera angles and less use of extreme shaky camera, Michael Bay kept it simple this time. Made the sequences smooth and fast paced without the over dramatization.
Feels: 9/10. Based on a true story, from watching interviews with the soldiers involved and the documentary of the incident, fair to say it did reflect on the situation that unfolded or "of what we know that Occurred". Bay kept the intensity & emotion through out the film. Bonus points for no cliché moments!
Acting: 9/10. Roles were well played by all, you can clearly differentiate the cold hardheartedness and arrogance of the CIA personnel from the can do never give up attitude from the soldiers.
Recommendation: Watch it on big Screen, a cinema with Dolby Atmos Surround Sound system as it adds to the tension and action sequences. Also watch it from an objective/Neutral viewpoint rather on political view stand point.
Overall Rating: 9.3 (plus points for an Amazing Cinematic Experience)
*Movie was Viewed at George St Events Cinemas Dolby Atmos Theater*
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Excellent Visuals, Funny, Nostalgia Feels
Visuals = 10/10.
Story = 5/10.
Acting = 10/10.
Nostalgia = 7/10.
Money worth = 10/10 ($25 ticket).
Overall entertainment = 9/10.
Pros: left questions unanswered for the possibility to expand the universe. Use of modern VFX. Use of surround sound mix.
Cons: Story pretty unoriginal more of a remake than reboot. Steroid injected version of episode 4.
Recommendation: watch it in bigger screen than traditional (IMAX or Dolby Atmos.
Movie rating = 8/10.
Jurassic World (2015)
JW - Satisfying Sequel
So after being hyped up a lot about this film, booking tickets month in advance, Finally got to see it. I wish it had more impact but it was still a good film.
Pros: Nice well paced , Decent acting (kids aren't annoying as some people feared, they did a good job), Funny (nice small jokes not overly done), Lot of Dino's, Nostalgia feels, Visuals/beautiful scenes
Cons: Slightly on the predictable side, More of an action ride than an adventure ride, some characters needed more screen time than others
Recommendation: Watch in IMAX, Don't watch the TV spots as they show most of the scenes
Rating 8/10 (over all)
(If JP1 was 10/10 and number 1/10 would be JP3)
Real Steel (2011)
Great Fun !! good Action !!
Alright, after transformers 3 i wasn't expecting anything near it, just like terminator salvation flopped to compete with transformers 2, but Real Steal handled it better than Terminator and some what better than Transformers!
Loads of Action, good acting, suspense, thrill, emotions, good for kids too, unlike transformers which has unnecessary sexual humor. This is one doesn't, and the lead female is Aamzing!!
stop taking life to seriously you stupid critics, honestly don't know how you guys enjoy a movie if you analyze it down to every single frame?, trust me guys you wont be doing that, its great fun go Watch!!
