Undead (2003)
Cult classic? Hmm, possible..but extremely fun none the less.
I actually picked up this film by reading about it right here on IMDb a few weeks ago. After picking it up and watching it last night, I have to say this is a really fun film. I totally see the influence of the Peter Jackson/Sam Raimi flicks. Wheather or not it was on purpose, outside looking in, it's there. The visual effects are admittingly pretty cheap, but I always say, there's something magical about that and the feeling I get when watching indie budget films.
After watching the making of, the true realization to the amount of work the S-Bros. put into this is pretty insane. Running out of money and then finding anything and any way they could to continue production is great and shows true workmanship and dedication to finish a film they won't make $2 dollars on. I think the actors/actresses did an amazing job, hands down. The zombie make-up was great! Of course, being a zombie film that's what lead me to buy it in the first place. To all the cast and crew, a big kudos to you. Much well deserved and much well respected.
Let's see more from the S-Bros!
The Chilling (1989)
So cheesy...so what...it's good.
OK, we have all read our bad reviews about this movie. Lets get over it and move on. I'm a fan of cheese low budget gore to the extreme so this movie ( for a fan such as myself ) makes a lot of my collection feel like an ACTUAL movie. I love it. As I've said many times before, there is a special feel that I like to these low budget films, especially of the 80's films. The atmosphere in this movie was pretty creepy which was nice. The zombies wrapped in foil, okay..it's funny, but they did a pretty good job on capturing the overall feel of what a zombie film is suppose to have. It's not your average zombie film but enough to keep most zombie fans entertained. Pick it up and check it out. The least it could be is another one to add to your collection.
Decampitated (1998)
Decampitated!!!
Decampitated! This movie totally just snuck right up into my favorite Troma list without a doubt. I thought it was that good. A great comedy/horror spoof directed by Matt Cunningham. This was excellent! The opening scene was great and I enjoyed the good laugh. The use of duct tape in this film was hilarious. I almost want to know how much duct tape was used in this film just for chips 'n giggles. This film had that good ole Troma style to it but in a different way then usual Troma films do. I think it was actually better done then most Troma films in my collection. The acting was great which is a plus for Troma..even though this was a total spoof movie. Some of the way the camera angles were used were really cool. It added that extra humor to it. Definitely pick this movie up if you come across it. I know its a rare one out there on the Troma market but if you see it, pick it up. I look forward to seeing more film by Mr. Cunningham.
Cannibal Campout (1988)
The Classic Cannibal Campout
This movie was shot by Jon McBride. He did a great job as this is one of his earlier films that was shot off the cuff. You will find many, many negative feedbacks on this film but I believe a lot of folks truly miss the point in films shot on video. It's not suppose to look as if coming straight out of the box office as a smash hit topping the boards as the new #1 hit movie. The true beauty in these films lie in the artistry displayed by the simple "cheese factor". Exactly, it's a "work of art". I'm hoping a lot more folks take this into consideration and dig deeper into films alike. You will have much more respect for films like this if you look at it from that angle ( no pun intended ).
Cheers & Enjoy- Dain
