"The Floor is LAVA!" - for 3 1/2 hours!
1 April 2020
See title... ...That pretty much describes the writing of what could have been a truly magnificent premise for a film.

Wonderful gentle exuberant feel-goodedness ..ness
25 September 2019
Not in a long time have my wife and I finished watching a superhero movie feeling "Wow! that film actually made us feel rather happy".

After working in movie special effects for over 3 decades, well, I'm a tad over Dark, Brooding, Mass-Collateral-damage, etc. over and over.

Please perhaps switch your ultra-critical-thinking chip off - just for a couple of hours. Sad reading so many reviewers here picking so many negative holes in this. I feel this is more akin to saying "this puppy isn't cute enough because..." to be less than admirable.

We found this to be an unexpected delight.

Stranger Things (2016–2025)

1980's (homage) perfection!
3 August 2016
Our collective/condensed memories of the 80's. The Goonies, ET, Stand By me, and The Thing "COULD" have been "Stranger Things"...

...IF Doc Brown had swapped a VHS copy of JJ Abraham's SUPER 8 into Marty's coat pocket instead of that Almanac!! ..and, as a result? ALL of our cherished 80's movies memories actually WERE like Stranger Things!

Never - in the history of cinema/TV/subscription-bit-rate-bandwidth - have I seen "child actors" so perfectly found, rounded-up together, cast, and directed so fluidly, with that "innocent essence" we all still love and remember about the films of the 1980's!

..Bravo!

perfect... just Perfect entertainment
11 November 2008
If you simply enjoy being entertained, this enchantingly short trio of episodes sheer is perfection itself.

Congratulations to Joss Wheedon for giving his planet such a very sweet little gift.

i'm not much of a fan of musicals as a rule, but this one plays so cheekily on all things geeky it's hard to resist.

Too often these days, performances rarely reveal that the cast absolutely enjoyed their rolls so much. Knowing that these people all performed for free and for friendship makes this one all the more enjoyable to watch.

So many Directors with so much money & talent at their disposal really do miss the point, and the point is to put your heart into it.

So obviously made with love, and the help of friends, Dr Horrible will make you smile over & over!

Skullduggery (1970)

Jolly good little adventure
31 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
(Maybe some teeny spoilers)... A rollicking tale as anthropologists searching for signs of a "Missing Link" in New Guinea, discover a living group of them amidst the jungle. The expedition's villainous financier (Paul Hubschmid), upon discovering Phosphorus in the area, puts the little creatures to work as miners.

The film's ending court case regards the "humanity" of a child stillborn to one of the lead creatures, the alleged result of an indiscretion by Burt Reynolds.

Great cast includes appearances from Ausie great Chips Rafferty, Burt Reynolds, Wilfred Hyde-White. Some great creature make-up work by Bud Westmore rarely mentioned in the books.

Sadly, apparently not yet released on DVD.
