Funny People (2009)
Watch the first hour and half, then leave after that
I went in with high hopes expecting this to be very entertaining and sure enough, I was in for a treat! Seth Rogen and Adam Sandler were in perfect sync with each other and had some very funny jokes that were not only witty but very good. Even the theme of a near death experience seemed to really fit in with the movie. But after the first hour and a half and Sandler being cured, the film just dragged. I found it very odd that after Sandler was cured, there was little to no mention of him being cured after he initially tell everybody, then goes back to being the same jerk he's always been. It just didn't make any sense of what someone who just went through a near death experience would really do. Then here was a lot of pointless drivel about his ex married to an Australian dude that Sandler was trying to get back, how he still loved her, blah blah blah, and he still doesn't get the girl in the end! All while he's with the girl, him and Rogen get into a huge fight and then they're just done. What was that??? I kept thinking "What happened?" The duo that Sandler and Rogen portrayed so wonderfully from before fell apart, and the film just ceased to be funny. If the film would've ended after Sandler gets cured, I'd easily say Best Film of the Year, but because they had to goon and on for almost another hour and a half about something that had almost nothing to do with the story really killed Funny People for me. If you're going to see it, I suggest going for the first hour and a half then leaving because if you stay, get ready to pull out a pillow and get a good almost hour of snooze.
Disaster Movie (2008)
I walked out after 10 minutes, and damn happy I did!!!!
To say this is one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my young life is a huge understatement. To put it more clearly, this absolutely WAS the worst movie I have ever seen in my life! Me and a buddy had heard how terrible it was, and I was truly curious, thinking, "Nothing tops Epic Movie. That was horrible!" So we went to see it. Hoo boy, was I WRONG!!! First off, nothing within the 10 minutes I saw was remotely funny, or even somewhat entertaining, just a bunch of pop culture references and movies that had nothing to do with disaster (maybe the horribly fake meteorites in the beginning, but since I walked out after 10 minutes, i don't know if there were others). I didn't even remotely get why "my super sweet 16" was being spoofed when the title was DISASTER MOVIE. What the hell?! The movie was titled disaster movie, but I believe the title would be more appropriate if it was "Randomly Throw in Irrelevant Pop Culture References and Movies that Have Nothing to Do With Disaster Movies" Movie, since thats all that I got when we walked out after 10 minutes. I honestly felt dumber to say the least, but at least guy selling tickets was nice enough to give me my money back, thank god! My advice: STAY AWAY. STAY FAR FAR AWAY!!! Iwouldn't go back to see this garbage even if somebody paid me, its that bad!
Epic Movie (2007)
3 Words: Don't EVEN BOTHER!!!
I liked scary movie 1 and 2, those were the true classics. 3 was alright, and 4 was pushing it. Date movie really wasn't that funny and I'd rate it average, but this... Oh, this was something else! Me and some friends went to see it thinking it would be mildly entertaining... WRONG! The acting was horrible, the jokes were irrelevant, not funny, and actually stolen from real movies (when wolverine flipped off whats his face in epic movie, it actually came from an actual x-men movie), and we were tempted to walk out, but we hoped it would get funnier. It didn't. I don't remember a single time that I laughed during the movie, and quite frankly I'm getting really tired of the almost naked girls running around for no good reason (apparently the sexual fantasies of a 12 year old), the oral sex jokes, the irrelevant cultural references (Sudoku? please. A fifth grader could've thought of better jokes), and the potty humor. A 6th grader could've thought of a better movie, simply because I'm guessing that's what the target audience was. I'll give everyone a few words of advice: 1.Don't even bother with this at all. I wouldn't even waste money renting the DVD. 2. If you actually want to see a parody of these god awful movies that shows them for what they really are, search "Vague Genre Movie" on Youtube. Not only is it hilarious (made by Maddox), it's free and about 10 times more entertaining.
Saw II (2005)
Saw Brings Out the Best of Scare
I won't lie, I usually really don't like gory movies because they make me cringe at the thought of "what if that happened to me?" kind of questions or make me stay up all night, but I'll admit that I particularly liked the Saw franchise. Considering this was such a low budget movie, I really respect how realistic and amazing the graphics were. I had heard that the Saw franchise was notoriously gory, but I was completely amazed at how perfect many of the scenes looked, almost as if many of the scenes were real, even though we know thats not true at all, but excellent set designers and make up artists. Saw's traps are ingenious and really boggle the mind when you find out what's really going on near or at the end. Jigsaw actually makes you think in strange and twisted ways you never thought possible, something I haven't seen in years since "The Sixth Sense".
In some ways, "Saw" is like M. Night Shamalaun's masterpieces; unpredictable, beautiful, and leaving you with many questions until near or at the end of the movie, something that is very rarely done in our day and age. The only gripe that I had with Saw 2 was I knew exactly where the cop's son was the second Jigsaw said "Your son is in a SAFE place." If only Jigsaw had not emphasized the word "Safe" so much and there had not been a safe placed so close and placed in the shot so conveniently, it would've been the perfect sequel to an already excellent franchise. The part that did surprise me though, was when the tape had been previously recorded and the SWAT team had been watching nothing but events that have already occurred, and that really made up for what I already knew, which showed once again the ingenious work of the directors and screenwriters. Overall, I really liked Saw 2 I would recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of the franchise or is looking for a great movie for Halloween, but when renting, remember: There will be blood, and lots of it!
