Paranormal Entity (2009 Video)
6/10
Scary as hell, but inferior compared to "Paranormal Activity"
23 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, It was very difficult to find out information about this movie, so I ended up creating this page on IMDb. Any extra information you have, please supplement it! ;)

Regarding the film PARANORMAL ENTITY, I was not sure what to expect, but in the end, It turned out to be a pleasant surprise! Obviously, and as might be expected, the SIMILARITIES with "Paranormal Activity" are huge, although the plot have a completely different course. The whole concept is the same: a demonic and malevolent entity that haunt a house and tortures members of a family! However, the origin of this force and its consumptives aims and purposes are different and, therefore, the means and the ways in which this entity shows itself are also changed.

As the film progresses, it creates in the viewer a feeling of terrible FEAR and a big SUSPENSE atmosphere! Moments like when the evil spirit walks the roof, doors and walls, finishing by throwing to the ground the pot containing the ashes of a loved one; or when Thomas is alone in the house and put three bells in strategic points of the house and suddenly they're playing frantically ... Well, it is to be grounded and bonded to the screen!!

However, the film has its FAILURES! One of the worst points ends up being the final scene, since it ends abruptly and did not realize very well what is going on. Another downside is also the misrepresentation of the actors, far below than the intensity of the film required! Therefore, we conclude that is a bet partially achieved by The Asylum ... To me, this production can continue to "rely" on other successes and recreate them, I'll always see them with much pleasure!

Proves it by yourself! But prepare to be psychologically scared! (Not as much as desired, yet itself sufficient!) 6 out of 10.

Luxurious Cast in Rob Marshall's almighty hands -- Monumental!
18 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Ladies and Gentlemen:

What can we all expected from such a resounding miscellany where we can find some of the best of the best?!

Many people try (and some have done it!) to depreciate this picture through prejudice and implied statements, around the excessive number of stars gathered and the repetition of one kind of formula for success already implemented at "Chicago"!! This is just a huge and colossal mistake!!! In my opinion, it all comes down to the unwillingness on the part of frustrated critics. And, of course, a marketing policy oriented for failure.

Let me say it loud: This film is not a cheap imitation of the 1963 Federico Fellini's "8 1/2", nor a flop or a failure concept! Au contraire, it is a product of extreme quality, with moments that should mark the history of cinema! Take note of this and be amazed to:

-- We have a king-size Cast, with Academy Awards Winners DANIEL DAY-LEWIS (1989 & 2007) singing beautifully and in a record that many were eager to see; JUDI DENCH (1999) as always superb and perfect (and singing, as if it were not enough); NICOLE KIDMAN (2002) remembering the old good days of "Moulin Rouge"; MARION COTILLARD (2007) showing that she is capable of much more than just play hard the most potent icon of France in "La Môme"; and, last but not the least, the huge Iberian monster PENÉLOPE CRUZ (2009). Apart from the wonderful KATE HUDSON (Academy Award Nominee 2001), providing one of the highlights of the film with the perfect performance of "Cinema Italiano" (2010 Golden Globe Nominee for Best Song); the striking and resonant pop-singer FERGIE, with a significant moment of symmetrical and timed choreography and singing in "Be Italian"; and SOPHIA LOREN (Academy Award Winner 1962), with an aura of being entranced and awestruck!

-- We have the writer ANTHONY MINGHELLA (Academy Award Winner for "The English Patient") in one of his last works for the big screen.

-- AND, We have the master of musical pictures ROB MARSHALL! An amazing director, whose mind has built big hits as "Chicago" and "Memoirs of a Geisha"!

My Godness, "NINE" has everything! A great great great Crew... The Costume Design is once again impeccable, built by COLLEEN ATWOOD (Winner of 2 Academy Awards). And the songs are ALL perfectly written, perfectly composed and perfectly sung!

So what are you waiting for? Go see it. Delight yourself. Enjoy. It is really worth every penny of the ticket! I can assure you. You will not regret it! A singing and melodic 9 out of 10!

Sparkling Emily Blunt; Very entertaining/teaching picture.
13 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
And that's why historic/biographic movies are so important to all of us, moreover when they are so well done, like this one!

Before I saw "The Young Victoria", I knew a few things about Queen Victoria, but in the end I got much more knowledge about it.

Emily Blunt is simply GREAT as Victoria (Who would guess that!) and She probably will get a nomination at this years Oscar's. Personally, I'm cheering for her...

For technical issues, I am pleased to say that is a very successful production, with wonderful Art Direction/Set Decoration and, of course, like It was expected to be, a terrific periodic Costume Design!

The one drawback is that I want to see more and know more about this interesting queen, but foremost, incredible woman and mother!

BRAVO: 9 out of 10!

Mary and Max (2009)
10/10
Make a Favour to Yourself and See This Wonderful Animated Feature!
6 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
And It happened!!! I don't know how and why, but "Mary & Max" incredibly made me cry... I loved it, to the first frame until the last one!

Well, this animated picture can not be a PIXAR production or even a American movie, but you can bet this is a stupendous Australian animated feature... I only hope that "Mary & Max" get some nominations around the world, like it happened with "Persepolis" or "Vals Im Bashir", its quite possible it reach the 2010 Oscars... And it would be such a pleasure!

The story line is superb, noble and above all it has the ability to describe many rotten realities of our society, so if you didn't see it yet, please, make a favor to yourself and spend a very well done hour lurking this two suffering, sad and nevertheless comic lifes, of an Australian girl and an American middle age man!

"Mary and Max" is not to be missed... 10 out of 10

Amália (2008)
10/10
A Portuguese movie like no other!!!
25 September 2009
"Amália" is probably the best Portuguese movie ever!

Since I was a little child, I listened Amália's songs (Fado), and her voice always make me think how would be her private life, both as a woman, as well as world-famous singer. "Amália" gives you a quite good image about that.

SANDRA BARATA BELO is amazing as Amália. She is very physically similar to Amália and she incorporates 100% her personality. The screenplay is very well engineered and the cinematography is spectacular!

I can't imagine this movie in another way, although it have some technical errors. For example, the Caracterization of the older Amália is a kind of exaggerated and a bit ridiculous... But that is comprehensible, we are in Portugal, and our cinema has not the evolution necessary to make it better.

However, that is not the big point. The truth is that "Amália" is a Portuguese film above average for what would be expected, and to see him, we are shown so sincere and stunningly orchestrated, the life, work and career of the greatest singer of Portuguese Fado of all time!

10 out of 10 {Especially by the boldness and courage!}

Brightness to the eyes and the heart. Björk is astonishing!
5 June 2008
Björk gave to the cinema one of the most beautiful and well made performance ever...

When I saw it first time, probably I stayed in so state of chock, that I don't remember what I thought about the movie itself, maybe I was so impressed about all the magnificence and fullness...

This movie has everything what it needs: excellent cast & director, superb script and probably It has the best soundtrack ever.

I can't really say if it has what is need in a movie for being nominated to the Academy Awards, but I know that, surely, It might have reached some!!! But the prizes aren't always what counts most, But the message that the whole is for the viewer...

I just know that, after all, this superb story caused a multitude of feelings within me: pain, crying, joy, despair, afraid and shame.

Is unbelievable, isn't it?!

One of the most powerful films of the whole history of cinema. A motivational 10 out of 10!
