The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
The music is heaven on the ears
This movie is certainly something special. In that the ONLY reason that this movie has 4 stars and not 9 is because of the way they did Electro. What was once an incredible supervillain in the comics is now reduced to Jaime Fox becoming what is basically an electricity shooting blue lightbulb version of the Thing from fantastic 4 (2015). Personally, the funnest part of this movie for me is the music. Electro himself may have an origin that's a bit completely insane, but his theme is just as insane as the person who thought his design and origin would make comic fans happy with him and (probably) hits just as hard.
Iron Man Three (2013)
I don't understand the hate for this film
I think this is a pretty good Iron Man movie. Not the best mind you, that first film still stuns me how good the VFX look, but close. The only thing I could think of that brings this movie down to an 8 star rating is that stupid Mandarin twist that makes no sense as the real Mandarin is revealed later in the universe, so what does this plot twist do for anyone. Other than that, this is a good movie. The action is fun, the writing is clever, and the acting is great, Robert Downey JR being a standout as always, but a lot of the other actors are fun for me as well (Jon Favro as Happy is as funny as always)
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
a pretty funny horror movie
I found this movie to be a quite interesting movie. The comedy works, and the horror is scary enough, but the direction seems to be all over the place. This movie can range from comedic to scary in a heartbeat and even then some of the comedy isn't really all that funny. The characters are your stereotypical horror movie affair levels of intelligence, and the plot seems to be just about the same. That being said, the comedy can also be a pretty funny experience to have, Chris Hemsworth may just be the funniest character, and sometimes the horror elements really work well for the movie. In summation, This movie is a mixed bag.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
The only MAGIC here is how unremarkable this is
I was a pretty solid fan of the first DR Strange movie. I was a pretty decent fan of WandaVision (especially those last 2 episodes). I was NOT, however, as big a fan of this flick. Somehow LEGENDARY director Sam Raimi made what could have been not only an intensely heartwarming story but the story that could have SAVED Marvel during this time and made it maybe worse than it could have been. I can BARELY remember this film, that's how BAD it is. The villain makes NO sense why she turned evil if you're one of the MANY people not paying attention to the many Disney plus shows. The only really interesting part was universe 838 and we all know how THAT went.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Wow. Just Breathtaking
This may just be the best Batman movie I have ever seen. The performances are phenomenal, the action is brilliant, and the story equally so. In terms of acting, I feel like the standout is Heath Ledger in what is sadly one of his last rolls as The Joker. Ledger was able to make me both sympathetic and fearful of The Joker within the same sentence. No discounting the other actors as well. Christian Bale has practically become the greatest Batman for me, and Michael Caine is also really good as Alfred. Everything about this movie clicked for me from the acting to the story and even the action. Easily my favorite Batman movie.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Marvel, We need to talk
I absolutely adored Thor 3 for the comedy but also, and most importantly, the story and the journey that Thor goes through. I think that Taika thought that we needed more humor in this movie than in the last Thor film. If I had to give this film compliments, Gorr is a pretty good villain to have and is played wondrously by Christian Bale. Other than that, this movie has very little in terms of spectacle, no ACTUAL comedy, poor and dated looking CGI, and what seems to be a strong desire to make me despise the main character. If you are looking for a good Thor movie, I suggest you just go watch rewatch Thor 3. You'll have a much better time with it than with this film.
Don't Breathe (2016)
Most thrilling movie of the year
I first saw this movie at the most ironic time imaginable (around Christmas) but I feal like this movie is worth the watch at any time. The movie is practically non stop thriller but I feel like it works for the story they are trying to tell. If i had to complain about even 1 aspect of this movie, it would more than likely be 1 of 2 things. First, i feel like the movie wrapped itself up too quickly for me to get that invested into the character of the blind man. The second thing would probably be that that scene at the end (for those who have seen, you know what scene i mean) may have went just a little bit too far, but some people might like it.
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Not bad for a first time
This just happens to be my first experience with the Evil Dead series, and honestly, it's not a bad watch. The plot takes a few directions down paths that I wasn't expecting, and the ending is incredibly heartwarming (for a horror movie at least.) Not giving away any spoilers, but if this you're like me and this is your first time with the Evil Dead series, you just might be in for a treat. In my opinion, the characters can be fun, the horror can be the best kind of intense if you feel brave enough to experience them, and the dialogue is just like the movie itself. Fresh, Enjoyable, And occasionally downright terrifying.
