I can't decide which was worse, the story or the acting. These were the embarrassingly bad performances but, then, they had crass and silly dialogue to deal with. What disappoints me most is that the producers aired it despite how terrible this episode was. This is the kind of episode that loses viewers for the show itself. It reminds me of Halloween when Michael Myers kills Laurie's friends and it didn't bother me because the characters were obnoxious and the acting was so bad. It's not good when you dislike the main characters and don't care what happens to them. And, don't get me started on the seductive teenagers who came on to trick or treat. How many 17 year old teenage girls trick or treat by coming on to the homeowner then walk right into the house. RIDICULOUS!

Visually beautiful and engaging

This show was a perfect balance for me-visually beautiful, clever and witty writing, uncomplicated plot, and good acting. I enjoyed this period tale with the more modern vibe and sweet moments thrown in. I'm writing this review, though, mostly to rave about Arsema Thomas. I thought she was amazing. I loved every scene she was in. Her face was so expressive and her delivery was flawless. There was something about her voice and delivery that had me re-watch some scenes just to admire her acting abilities again. I thought everyone was wonderful but she really stood out.
This is a sad story, really, but has joyful moments to keep you hopeful.

Wish it would be erased from my mind

The fat shaming in this episode is so disgusting. I just wonder how writers who came up with such wonderful episodes, even when the series was winding down, could come up with such sophomoric and insulting humor. I, also, wonder how the cast performed it. I found nothing funny or charming or entertaining about it. This is my favorite show and there were a few episodes I didn't like and, now, will skip over. I can tolerate those episodes, though. This one I cannot. I never liked when the show used physical attributes as insulting humor, which it did at times. An embarrassingly horrible episode.
Incredible

Didn't expect to feel this way but this has to be the best episode. I can't say enough about Jon Huertas's performance. I, also, don't think that Justin Hartley gets enough credit for his performances. His character is verbose but it's the quiet moments when he shines. I had given up on This Is Us after the first 3 seasons, but am so glad I resumed.
Griffin Dunne is incredible!

So frustrated

This series was full of such intensity and emotion and, then, to end in such a disappointing way. The rating I gave is for the actors and the great performances. I can appreciate the performances and production, but I wish I'd never invested the time now in this series.

The spirit-swapping. The plot was so intriguing, it didn't need the otherworldly twist. I was extremely disappointed. If only it stayed the psychological thriller it started out as. My rating reflects the performances and the earlier episodes.

A new low
11 August 2019
I'm not easily disgusted but the base quality of the script, and subsequently, the characters really affected me. Exploitation in the guise of "thought-provoking," this first episode disturbed me-not just because of the storyline, but also because someone actually created and wrote that storyline. I've yet to watch any more episodes despite my sister's encouragement to do so. I guess, I feel that to continue to watch further episodes means I somehow condone the existence of this one.
Pleasantly surprised

I didn't know Sidney was leaving and was very concerned about the show moving forward. While watching this episode, I realized that it was a relief not watching Sidney fight his demons. Yes, the episode lacked the chemistry of the original crime fighting duo, but Leonard proved an interesting partner for Geordie.

An incomparable performance by Travis Fimmel. Ragnar's final soliloquy and death throes were a testament to Fimmel's talent. Why this performance has not been formally recognized is unbelievable. Hard to imagine the show without this formidable presence.
Anne with an E

Warped version of the novel
8 July 2018
This is a quality production and I was impressed with the performances. However, I consider it a warped version of the novel. In this series, Anne is portrayed as slightly manic and there is an allusion to an unspoken trauma that doesn't exist in the book. Yes, there's the trauma of a long history of foster homes and orphanages but no hint of physical trauma in the book. Extensive creative license has been taken to dramatize this very innocent story contained in the original. Watch the mini-series with Megan Followes if you want to see the "real" Anne of Green Gables. Or better yet, read the book.
