Sugar (2024)
Thoughts after 4 episodes
Does anyone know what's going on in this show? I don't care about the style of the shooting or the voice over although yes it's a bit lame but doesn't really distract from the tale. My concern is I've invested the time of 4 episodes and still all I know is a woman may have gone missing.
In the latestest episode my mind seems to have wondered to thinking what are these group of people? My options seem to range from spies to aliens. I've seen the typewriter gimmic before and that show was about time travel to virtual universise so perhaps this is a follow-up.
Whatever, I'm just hanging on, having watched the first two back to back then only coming back to this after a few weeks. I guess it's that sort of show. Either that or its yet another show that pilots without a full script and they are wrighting it bit by bit but not very well.
Some of the acting seems very loose but I get the impression thats because the actors are let down by the idolog. This really does need someone to grab it by the neck and give a shake. But we'll see, I might finish it but odds are very against it at the moment.
Fallout (2024)
Not a Gamer but enjoying this one
As the title says, I had no idea this was a computer game although the title rung a bell. I think I'm maybe too old to play these computer games - over 60. But the series is worth a watch if you can allow leeway on some of the concepts & the blood.
The does seem a lot of blood - how did we cope in the 1970s without it :-) in all those bond movies etc - This is an aspect of a lots of shows & films that I think needs looking at. It's not real and making it look real doesn't make the story any better. I'm not a prude by any means but where does this lead us in the long term? Just producers pushing the boundary further and the viewers getting less sensitised to gross events. This makes real violence more likely or if not, the violence that would happen anyway more twisted.
Anyway, that my input on that. Fallout is enjoyable and I'll be watching the full series.

Kinda rolls along
This for me is one of those you can drop and pick when you wish. It doesn't hook you enough to make you want to binge on it but is good enough and odd enough to make you want to see what's next.
At the start it's hard to nail this down - is one of those odd ball Aussie shows or a more complex adventure in the outback sort of thing. I like it, I like the acting too. But I do hope they don't do a second series as I fear it'll suffer.
Not watched it all yet, as I say, you need to be the right mood for it and let it pass over you. Certainly each character tells it's own story as the main story progresses and its as if the main storyline is trying to break out but the charators keep dragging it back saying "hay! Look at me!"
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
OMG what have they done?
I was born in 1959, Star Trek has been there almost all my life. Each change I cringed before viewing and most the time was fine with what had changed and the way it was produced. But this?
What is this? It's a mix of Love Boat meets the muppets and they all go of geocaching together.
What an idle storyline this is and how painful is it to watch every week the same exploration into the love lives and feelings of the same people having the same problems with the same feelings and the same predictable endings.
Whoever controls the licence for the Star Trek brand please please save us from this kind bubble-gum production of fairground romances.
Death and Other Details (2024)
Is it me ....
This series had most things you might, well I might look for when settling in to watch something in bed to relax. Some good actors and what seemed like a decent plot with a background of interesting situations.
It held my attention for the first few episodes but quickly after that I started to wonder if it indeed had any plot. Seemed to be written each episode Or was it yet another pilot pushed out based on a sheet of ideas? Then suddenly when some give them the money for a full series they have come up with a full plot and just wasn't up to the task.
Some neat camera trickery didn't save it either. Yes murder mysteries are supposed to have a plot twist but I suspect they are not suppose to twist so much you lose all track of who the characters are and why they just did what they did.
Credit to it, at least it kept me watching till the end .... at least I think that was the end I'm not sure and I have a dreadful feeling the might be series 2 !!
Well i won't be watching if so.
The Rookie (2018)
Run it's course
Used to enjoy this show when it was about The Rookie Cop and his police struggles. After watching - S6. E2 The Hammer - I'm giving up on this show. That episode was more like Eastenders than a cop show. And looking at the next episode, predictably, it's more of the same.
I'm used to these topic shows eventually turning into soaps but the writing and story here is so bad it's criminal itself.
5 mins of a very poor cop show at the end and 40 mins of slapstick poorly scripted clowning around. A bad mix of very predictable concepts with the unbelievable.
This show is done, bin it. It's lost it's way, to many poor relationship side stories which now domination and repeat time and again. And why does this firefighter girlfriend have be in every episode not doing every job of the medical to chemical spills. Are they trying for another spinoff with her?
