Bionic Woman (2007)
I think it was fairly good
I think the critics are being too harsh. It takes awhile for a show to reach its stride. I think they did a good job with the casting and the special effects. The people complaining about CGI have no clue about the budget constraints of a TV series. (They weren't that bad, by the way). I think it opens with interesting villains. I cannot believe how snobbish some folks are who immediately write off a show after only watching the pilot. I personally hope that they don't cancel it but give it time to flesh out the storyline. The only thing it really lacks in my opinion is a catchy soundtrack. The music in Six Million Dollar man really made the show - when Steve Austin went bionic on the bad guys, the theme music really made the show a hit. I hope they revamp that part of it.
Burn Notice (2007)
Excellent New Series
Burn Notice is an excellent new series. Donovan does an excellent job as the out of work intelligence officer (spook) trying to make a living while at the same time trying to figure out who "burned" him. Sharon Gless, Bruce Campbell, and Gabrielle Anwar comprise and excellent supporting cast. It very cleverly intersperses humor while unveiling very well written story lines.
In many ways, it is like the former hit series "The Equalizer" but with a younger "ex-spook". He, like McCall, has a support team - former co-workers who have a variety of skill sets that Donovan uses when helping the underdog out of seemingly hopeless situations. Being set in Miami doesn't hurt either - that was part of the appeal of Miami Vice. All in all, I believe this will be a hit - a cleverly written series on par with Monk.
The Cowboy Way (1994)
Very entertaining movie
I have always enjoyed watching this movie. This and a couple of others pay homage to Kiefer's interest in ranching. In real life, he is a real life cowboy, owning a fairly large ranch. He is truly a multifaceted individual, and this film takes most of its humor from the culture clash between the Ranch lifestyle and the New York City lifestyle. It is the type of conflict you see in more light hearted films such as the City Mouse and the Country Mouse. Interestingly, the country, cowboy lifestyle, while first out of place, ends up dominating those who adhere to the city ethos, and results in unique solutions to bad situations. There is a definite chemistry between Harrelson and Sutherland. One would hope Harrelson would be asked to star in future episodes of "24".
Oil Storm (2005)
This movie is playing out before our eyes - SLIGHT SPOILER
Slight spoiler
To quote an earlier reviewer "I have no idea how probable it is for a hurricane or terrorists to seriously cut off our oil supply, but I do know that most of the leading respected experts (oil and petroleum geologists) in the world today agree on a phenomenon called "Peak Oil"." Apparently, the probability is 100 percent. This movie is playing out before our eyes. The only difference between the movie and what actually occurred is the the LOOP platform was not destroyed. Ninety-five percent of the rigs and refineries are offline. Gasoline in Atlanta is selling for over 6 dollars a gallon.
I suspect many people will be watching this movie for a second time in the near future (if it gets re-aired). While it was widely criticized when it first aired, it appears to be eerily prophetic. Lets hope the reality ends up being not as bad as this movie predicts.
Collateral (2004)
Observations
*** Spoilers ****
When Vincent is talking to Max, right before he dies, notice how his eyes do not change after he dies - they remain the same before and after his death. Like a shark, there is no life in them - he was "dead" on the inside before he died.
The gray, lone coyote which crosses the rode in front of the cab was very symbolic of the gray Vincent - lone, predatory animals.
Some people said that it is not believable that a hit-man would hire a cab - why not use his own car or have someone in the cartel drive him around, why introduce another witness? Well, a cab fits in "anywhere", and would make a good vehicle for such a task, and the movie alludes to a string of killings done by a crazed cabby who ended up shooting himself at the end, so this isn't the first time Vincent has done this.
