Nope (2022)
He does it again!
I love the suspense of it all! Nope was a little hard for me to follow at first. It's definitely one of those movies you rewatch again and to understand deeper. Firstly, the soundtrack was amazing; I had to Shazam a lot of those songs and they went perfectly with each scene- especially Sunglasses at Night with the reverb. Secondly, Jordan did an amazing job with intertwining humor, suspense, and symbolism. It's the kind of movie that draws you to watch the director's commentary to understand the little details, easter eggs, and inspirations. Lastly, Daniel Kaluuya, and KeKe Palmer played their characters amazingly. KeKe's audacious spirit with Daniel's deadpan personality complimented each other well on this movie and is refreshing when watching!! Representation means a lot in the film industry and I love how Jordan shows that through the legacy of Haywood ranch.
Jordan does it again with providing amazing storylines with suspense, paired with representation and cultural experiences.
Wicked City (2022)
THANK YOU WRITERS AND CREW!!
Refreshing, representative, revolutionary!
First of all, every single cast member is absolutely beautiful. They play their characters well-sometimes too well- and adds dynamic to their role. I love how dramatic the story line is and it truly capture my attention. It kind of reminds me of a show on ABC or lifetime but with more representation. I also appreciate how the writers include tarot as a super power for Jordan. Tarot is sometimes overlooked as a skill in the occult and as Jordan learns to love her power it shows the viewers the importance of it and how useful it can be. I'm excited to see how this show grows! :)
Rap Sh!t (2022)
MUCH GRATITUDE
I love this show! Specifically how this creator highlights an experience of the rap industry and how individuals navigate it carrying their identity! This can be hard to grasp by those who do not relate to the experience nor care for what the experience highlights. I love how the team includes concepts of the the phone; Displaying how our phones/media can play a part in a greater overall storyline, and emotional state!!
Lastly I love the dynamic of each characters, Issa Rae does a great job with capturing the highs, the lows, and overall the complexity of existing. Grateful for this work of art!
